Ring Tones @ MindSay

A Ring Tone Meant to Fall on Deaf Ears

In that old battle of the wills between young people and their keepers, the young have found a new weapon that could change the balance of power on the cellphone front: a ring tone that many adults cannot hear.

In settings where cellphone use is forbidden — in class, for example — it is perfect for signaling the arrival of a text message without being detected by an elder of the species.

"When I heard about it I didn't believe it at first," said Donna Lewis, a technology teacher at the Trinity School in Manhattan. "But one of the kids gave me a copy, and I sent it to a colleague. She played it for her first graders. All of them could hear it, and neither she nor I could."

The technology, which relies on the fact that most adults gradually lose the ability to hear high-pitched sounds, was developed in Britain but has only recently spread to America — by Internet, of course.

Subway Insanity
It's hard not to see something new just about everytime you hop on a subway.  It's either a homeless man who's turned a newspaper into a beautiful piece of art with a bald point pen or the flamer who decides to kill a preying mantis who wasn't bothering a single person.  To this day it's probably one of my biggest regrets for not saying something to that piece of shit.  Today wasn't too exciting, just extremely annoying.  It's just my luck to sit down next to the guy who MUST have just got a cellphone for the first time because there is NO other logical reason for the following actions.  It's 7:30AM Sunday morning, snow on the ground, super windy, so the train was a little more crowded than normal.  I got a seat next to a guy holding his cellphone, something you see fairly frequently.  I close my eyes and try and get a few minutes of rest before my 12hr shift.  Then comes a suttle whistle sound, the sound you hear when I guy whistles at a girl.  Whatever, he's picking a new ring tone, good for him, even though he decided it was necessary to listen to the tone the whole way through, some people just like their phones too much.  But of course it wasn't over, he had to go through every single ring on his phone.  And ontop of that, he had to listen to every tone the whole way through as he blankly staired at the phone the entire time.  Even the ring ring tone, he listened to the whole way through.  Guess there's somethings I'll just never understand.
