Online Reputation Management (ORM) – A Proactive, not Reactive Process

Online Reputation Management (ORM) – A Proactive, not Reactive Process

What’s the difference between Search Engine Reputation Management and Online Reputation Management? While Search Engine Reputation Management is all about dousing the fire after it has spread and doing damage control, Online Reputation Management is more about sniffing out a potential fire and taking steps to prevent it from ever happening.

What exactly is Online Reputation Management?

In very simple words, ORM is the combination of public relations, marketing and search engine optimization. It allows you to manage the reputation of the company proactively by achieving high ranking on search engines. ORM is a three-step process that involves a lot of tactical planning and strategy.

Three Steps of ORM

The three steps of ORM, which form the backbone of its strategy are:

  1. Monitoring and tracking what is being posted about you online. This works as a warning system that can alert you of any adverse information that is being posted on the net.
  1. Analyzing how the information on your company can affect your website. In addition to this, you also have to take stock of your online assets, meaning the sites under your control, which you can use to influence rankings on search engines.
Influencing these results by actively participating in as many online conversations as possible. If you do so by contributing to forums and blogs, you can swing the favorable impression of people your way.

Character is ...

“Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow.

The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.”

16th U.S. president (1809-1865)

Google's reputation at stake in fight with government

Google, facing its biggest public relations battle yet, has more at stake than competitors as it fights a federal government demand for data on how millions of users search the Internet.

The Justice Department asked a federal judge in San Jose on Wednesday for an order to force Google to turn over the records as part of the administration's efforts to revive an online pornography law.

The other major search providers — Yahoo, Microsoft's MSN and Time Warner's America Online — have cooperated with the government. Company representatives all said that they did not turn over data that identified individual users.

Personally, I like Google even more knowing that they didn't roll over and submit to this crap.  I applaud them.

St Clare's
In all my years at St Clare's I never really believed all the rumours they said about our school.  All the things that people at Merichi and Melrose and Marist said about St Clare's girls.  The jokes made about how many people have kids there.  Seriously, I thought all of this was exaggurated.  But in my past two years as a senior, as I've gotten to know afew more people, I've realised that there is actually some truth to all these rumours.  Not everyone at Clare's is a slut, but the majority of the ones you see parading around the place, well, are.  You just have to come to our school for a day to see how superficial and shallow everyone is.  It's all about looks and fashion.  And then this pregnancy thing.  You only really start hearing about this stuff later on at Clare's, but there are a surprising number of people who, every weekend, go out partying with the intention of getting drunk and sleeping with some random. And that's exactly what they end up doing.  And there's an even more surprising amount of people who do infact get pregnant.  However there is only one girl in our year who has a kid, whereas some other years have 3 or 4 people with kids.  But thats not to say they don't get pregnant.  I know one girl who's had at least 3 abortions.  It's sick really.  You think after the first time she'd learn her lesson.  This is the same as all the other girls in her 'group' who smoke and do drugs and drink everynight.
Now I don't mean to bag out my own school.  I really do like it at Clare's.  But I didn't actually realise there were so many people at our school who were like that.  Obviously not everyone is, but there are more than there should be at a normal school.  I guess there all just male deprived what with it being an all girls school and half the guys at Eddies being gay.  Plus, someone has to uphold our reputation, right?
