| On October 31, 2006, my wife passed away unexpectedly. I was by her side at the hospital throughout the hours while she was in intensive care. The apartment staff was aware that something had happened, as paramedics were dispatched to our apartment. Needless to say, during the following hours, I was unable to drop off a rent check due to making funeral arrangements. I received a Notice to Vacate posted on my door by the manager. When I approached them about this, she was completely unreasonable. It was as if the rent check was more important than the fact that my wife had just passed away that morning! I did drop off a check, and gave notice to vacate in 30 days, and began moving things out. On the 24th day, I came home to find that the locks had been changed. While I had moved the majority of my things out, there were a number of items inside the unit - including my wife's wedding set. According to the manager, Angela Swindle, there was nothing in the apartment. I have been fighting this through the corporate office. After all of this time, nothing has been resolved, and my wife's personal items (which are very sentimental to me) have vanished. Please, save yourself the grief. Find a better place to live!!! |
That trailer the kid is in sucks. It's almost the worst I have ever seen. The floor is sagging badly in some places. The carpet is really nasty in spots. I don't think the thing has been cleaned since it was put in there lord knows when. The cabinets under the kitchen sink are nailed closed for some reason. Many windows have holes and cracks. I think they put in some new paneling and just nailed boards around the inside to hold it up..however some of the boards are coming off. The walls hadn't been cleaned in years from all appearances. And the bathroom was really really nasty. We had to remove old caulk and put new on because it was so nasty and most of the old was peeling off.
I just do not understand how they can get away with renting places like that. Especially when you are required to pay a deposit which they CLAIM is to be used to fix and/or clean the place if you do any damage to it. From the way things look they are just running a scam. Taking folks money for nothing at all. And they require cash of course lol. It's possible the managers are just keeping some of it and the actual owners don't know...but that seems unlikely.
The owners of the places must not consider just how bad/low down dirty owning and renting out such places makes them look. And they haven't so far even done the things I myself heard them tell the boy they would get done by friday. And it is now sunday. So that makes them liars for certian.
That just makes me mad. Cheap is one thing...but if they would just make the places a bit more energy efficient they could fix them up and still make money. As it is the tenants have no incentive whatsoever to care the least little bit about the places or the energy used.
I did it! I stuck up for myself to the point of being extremely straight forward and slightly pissy with someone. I have been rude back to people before or sarcastic but never down right bitchy.
I went to drop a whole car load of things off at the apartment this afternoon. I also decided to check out mail at the same time. In there was a 2 page letter ... hold on let me get the title of it ... "N4 Notice to Terminate Early for Nonpayment of Rent".
It gives us until the 20th to pay $500 or move out. WHAT THE HELL!?
First off, we havent even moved IN yet.
Secondly we are all paid up. We paid the last month rent and parking in full, and we paid half of first month (which was the promotion) and parking, and laundry card already. I have the two receipts to prove it.
I called up the lady in the rental office on my way to work and laid into her. I told her I was not impressed. She tried to tell me it came from head office which was downtown Ottawa, not from her and the landlord. I mentioned how that was not true because it was not in an envelope and it had her handwriting on it at the top. It was simply folded and slid into our mailbox. She changed the subject quickly after that.
Then she checked her records on the computer and it says for me and Adam we are all paid up with a balance of 0$ but we do need to pay parking for January before we move in. Again I said UM NO! We did that already too. I was so mad. I was almost yelling at her. She said she would check it out. My answer to her was "Yes best you do that!!"
So in the meantime I called the Ontario Rental Houseing Tribunal, because I was so damn pissed off. I raged at them for a bit and they told me there is no reason I should have gotten a letter like this.
So then I called back to the rental agent and told her I wanted head office's number so I could call them and complain. She said she checked into the parking thing and we HAD in fact paid it. Again I said "Yes I KNOW!!" She asked why I wanted head office's number and I told her because I want an apology letter and I want a letter stating that this specific notice is now null and void. This way it wont come back on our credit, it wont come back on us in any way if we have that.
She said she could do up a letter stating our balance was $0. But I want it in writing from head office because who cares about what a rental agent says ... really!
OH MY GOD! I have never been such a bitch on the phone. I think this woman is a pathalogical liar mind you. She claims the day she was late for our "getting of the key" appointment she had to stop and help a girl who was dying of blood loss due to hitting a dear on the highway on her way to Ottawa from Carleton Place. Then she had to go home and change her bloody clothes. Funny that I did pass by that very location a half hour after she said the accident had occured and there was NOTHING on the roads anywhere. Makes me wonder!
So in the morning I am STILL calling head office about that letter I want, but I am also going to be mentioning that it kind of shows me how they work and that perhaps I should be on top of things with them, and that I may be calling for documentation on many things.
FUCKING IDIOT PEOPLE!
O.k well Im going to put Blockbuster to the test. You know there no late fee policy. I think they might have met there match. Last time I checked my fee was 108.00 yes you read that correctly one hundred and eight dollars. Your probably asking why on earth do you have 108.00 late fee. Well I think I have a problem. A movie return disorder. I just don't take them back. I don't know why there sitting right there. Every night before I go to bed I tell myself Jennifer take back those damn movies!!
But I never do. Then on top of that I also have a movie account with Movie Gallery and have late movies from there to. These are only a few days late so the fine probably isnt that bad.
So as you can see I have some sort of problem. Maybe being deprived of watching very much television as a child has caused me to hord movie rentals. But I don't want to make such a hasty diagnosis concerning such a complex disorder.
My goal now is to make a sweep of my home and take back all the movies and games I have been stashing away so my husband wouldn't know how late they are. I think I should use the drop box however. Im afraid if I were to walk in there they might have alarms sound and Blockbuster agents surrounding me. Im sure Im wanted in at least 3 diffrent blockbusters in the surrounding towns. I had a little run in over in a town a few miles away after renting Friday and never returning it.
So there is my dirty little secret My name is Jennifer and I am a movie rental thief. With return disorder.
