Renaissance @ MindSay
Tomorrow, Cynthia and I will be attending the Barbarian Invasion weekend of the Texas Renaissance Festival. I'll be taking MORE pictures this time. We're leaving from Sugar Land, TX at around 7:30am and we're expecting to arrive at Magnolia / Plantersville, TX at 9:00am or so. (expect delays, we may have to make a few stops on the way.)
We'll be taking the 249N to FM-1774N route this time. For those who are going, DO NOT take I-45N to FM-1488W! There's too much construction going on and it can delay you for a good half an hour at Egypt, TX. If you plan to take I-45N, exit FM-105W all the way to FM-1774S.
A few MindSayers I'm expecting tomorrow at the Texas Renaissance Festival:
I'm not wear any costumes or anything, but I have regular clothes that make me look like a ninja. heh! Just look for a drunk guy with a fox tail, a backpack, and a long katana blade / samurai (and a wooden sword) and a hot girl with a black dragon umbrella and thick framed glasses. ;)
I'm buying bows and arrows. I'll most likely be at the Drench-a-Wench booth at the Sherwood Forest.
Sorry guys, I've been kinda loaded lately. I was able to accomplish three months of blogging here in MindSay everyday. However, my blog seems to be shooting blanks, since I mainly blogged privately to myself or to the "
My agenda has been overwhelmed with priorities that keeps on coming. So here's a "heads up" for everyone:
- Thursday, November 1, 2007: Working ALL DAY, from 5:30am to 5:15pm (Routed to SE Houston in the afternoons). Happy Birthday to "my Damsel!
- Friday, November 2, 2007: Working Around the Clock, that's from 5:30am to 12:30am of Nov. 3rd. I've done it before, and I need the money.
- Saturday, November 3, 2007: I'm going to the Texas Renaissance Festival, but I don't think I can camp out overnight.
- Sunday, November 4, 2007: At 7:30am, Uyoku and I will be going to my church (St. Laurence Catholic Church). Then at 10:00am, we are going to her church. I'm getting good at understanding Spanish. ;)
Forum Moderators, please keep an eye on the forums for me. You know now to alert me if any problems arise. Junk any spam you can junk. And for the obvious reasons that you find reportable posts in a forum you don't moderate, and the moderator of that forum just doesn't know their duties (we know who these dimwits are...), simply report them.
Admins, I need a co-global mod, someone who has at least 2400 forum posts, moderating experience, and knows how to work phpBB.
Other than that....
Here's my problem. I go to work very early, like at 5:30am. By the time I get home at around 11:45am or 12:00pm, I eat lunch, and then I get sleepy. I try to take 20 minute powernaps, but I end up sleeping for 6 hours. I wake up at night, wide awake, and can't go back to sleep until like 2:00am. Do I have a sleeping problem?
I know, my ideal sleep schedule, I should sleep at 8:00pm or 9:00pm to get a good night sleep. But during the afternoons, I can fight off the sleepiness, but that doesn't mean I will always win... ZzzzzZzzzzz
Does anyone here use Nextel / Boost?
I just saw Requiem for a Dream. BRILLIANT! And I give it three thumbs up my veins!!!

Howdy Howdy all!
This is just a short musing to break from my reading and study time...I am so overloaded on Medieval Roman society and the Renaissance that I swear I may start speaking Latin exclusively! Anyway, that being said, I am going to the Renaissance Festival this coming Sunday with Torridgirl who has posted the basic look of her red Fairy costume on her blog. It is so very cute. Mine is Purple and Black and I have to find so fancy ponytail holders for my Afro Puffs...That's right! fairies have bitchin' Afro Puffs. If one more jack ass comes up to me and mentions Princess Effin Laia (sp) as a reference for my hair I will beat them to death (not really of course).
Anyway I am going to Ren Fest not once, not twice but THRICE--to use the lingo of the time. LOL! I will be a Fairy, A Toga-wearing Roman and A barmaid...all of which characterize me in some way shape or form. The cool thing is that I was invited three times. This is fantastic because as you all know I have no CAR so now I not only have a way but I have awesome company as well! Woo Hoo! Thanks Torridgirl and Pony B and C ya'll rock! I am so freaking excited...I know, I know I am such a nerd!
Unrelated Note: I have been looking about on Mindsay and there is apparently some hoopla going on about folks with extra blogs...Not sure what the deal is but hey I have another blog...about Women and Children's issues (much of which is overtly feminist)...The same rules apply there as here though...no personal attacks and I don't mention folks names. I guess I am just saying that I have 2 blogs (no I will not tell you what the name is
) and I don't mention it because I don't want the blogs to become meshed in anyway...I like having a separate platform for my less light stuff and having a completely (well almost completely) different network base.... Like I say, it isn't necessarily hidden but I don't broadcast it either...it didnt seem like a big deal to me but it might be to others...just thought I would put that out there....and dont be trying to guess the blog and broadcast it like you putting me on blast or somethin'
.
I guess my point is that sometimes you need another place to be other parts of yourself....and as long as you are respectful and adhere to other's boundaries, why not carve out a second space for thoughts that don't fit so well in the primary places....just sayin' ya know...let's play nice ya'll. We all have our issues....right?
Anyhoo...I gotta go hit the books ya'll see ya laters!!!
Greetings All. Who loves the Renaissance Faire? I do! I do! It's that time of year and I love it!!! I have started working on my costume for this year. I won't make it to opening weekend but environgirl and I will be heading that way next week for the "1001 Dreams" weekend. While fairies abound at any time this particular weekend is devoted to them. I am going to be a wicked red fairy. I started sewing my outfit yesterday and am about 1/4 of the way done. I love sewing costumes but I don't like to use patterns. I tend to "eyeball" it and go with the flow until it becomes what I want. It can be a lot of fun taking things as they come.

Know the masculine,
but keep to the feminine:
and become a watershed to the world.
If you embrace the world,
the Tao will never leave you
and you become as a little child.
Know the white,
yet keep to the black:
be a model for the world.
If you are a model for the world,
the Tao inside you will strengthen
and you will return whole to your eternal beginning.
Know the honorable,
but do not shun the disgraced:
embracing the world as it is.
If you embrace the world with compassion,
then your virtue will return you to the uncarved block.
The block of wood is carved into utensils
by carving void into the wood.
The Master uses the utensils, yet prefers to keep to the block
because of its limitless possibilities.
Great works do not involve discarding substance.

Okay I have chosen the topics for my papers in Renaissance Culture and Society and Europe: The Middle Ages...Okay now each paper must be between 15-20 pages and because of my concentration the Middle Ages paper must touch on women's studies....So for Renaissance culture and Society I will concentrate on Public Health in Renaissance Italy and for the Middle Ages the focus will be on Punishments for Crimes against women in Europe in the Middle Ages (like the penalty for defiling a virgin as opposed to a uhm more "seasoned" woman...I will be pouring over Medieval Law Codes for a while to say the least...I am terribley excited about both topics but the challenge will be finding primary sources in English for each....but hey I'm up for the challenge...Now enough of business...
I used to love this show called Big Blue Marble! Does anyone else remember it...Oh the fun I used to have watching that show. It promoted cultural sensitivity (for real, not the fake kind of Vegetable Soup) and would feature a child from another part of the world and talk about their culture. There was even a segment on offering pen pal opportunities to viewers...it was fantastic...
Even the theme song is all happy and sweet...Anyway, I am triple tired and so how about some poetry...here goes..
(may/december, may/december, may/december)
My Madonna
I haled me a woman from the street,
Shameless, but, oh, so fair!
I bade her sit in the model's seat
And I painted her sitting there.
I hid all trace of her heart unclean;
I painted a babe at her breast;
I painted her as she might have been
If the Worst had been the Best.
She laughed at my picture and went away.
Then came, with a knowing nod,
A connoisseur, and I heard him say;
"'Tis Mary, the Mother of God."
So I painted a halo round her hair,
And I sold her and took my fee,
And she hangs in the church of Saint Hillaire,
Where you and all may see. --Robert W. Service
