Red Wine @ MindSay
Listening to: Funeral for a Friend- Bend your arm
What a day... after I posted my blog yesterday, I had the funniest experiences all crammed into about 5 hours!
My mom ran into my room going absolutely beserk because of some weird rash/ itchy blotchy swollen kind of thing which just took over her whole body. She was scratching all over and ironically the more she was scratching the more she swoll up.. At last I drove with her to the hospital only to find out she ate crayfish the night before, which she had a allergic reaction to. After a whole commotion involving getting a needle up her arm.. we managed to get the itching to stop and my mom was..well on some kind of trip on strong meds.I also randomly managed to stumble in on my godparents in the waiting room who were also there for some kind of medical thing?
After I had to drive home (luckily it was an automatic car.. i don't have my license yet!), we ended up drinking a lot of red wine at our neighbours house, because it was rugby.I hate that game.. it's very barbaric. This caused a lot of trouble as I was half trashed.. my dad was extremely "happy" and my mom was buzzing on meds and white wine. Luckily I managed to get my mom home and in bed to sleep. After that..I passed out.. literally.
I met such a nice guy last night at our neighbour's house.. he works for our neighbour (he makes teeth). But he's 23 and so well spoken. The way he phrases things out just had me gaping.. he has a way with words. But thats how life goes.. you meet such interesting people who you'll probably never see again in your life. What a night!
Well.. i miss Riaan. I can't help but to feel that I let down all his expectations about me when he got to see another side of me last week. Maybe things between us will never be the same again? I sincerely hope not. But I just can't help to know.. that he's looking at me in another light now. One of dissapointment. I can't stand it.
I'm gonna get dressed now. I was so eager to write that I just got out of the shower and started to write... whoops!
Enjoy your lovely Sunday!
Can your favorite Cab help you escape Alzheimer's Disease?
It's possible, according to this article I just got from Anti-Aging Drugs. Since I love cabernet sauvignon about better than any other kind of wine, this was interesting. Of course, it should go without saying that over-indulging in alcoholic beverages, including wine, is counter-productive to good health. Moderation is key. There is some difference of opinion as to what constitutes moderate drinking but most sites I consulted (and I researched this a lot, actually) said that women should drink no more than three glasses per day (most sites said one or two glasses for women) and men no more than four (most sites said two to three glasses for men). Also keep in mind that wines are high sugar so those with blood sugar problems or, of course, diabetics, need to be sure and check with their doctor before adding the one glass a day of wine to their health regimen.
Drinking Cabernet Sauvignon may help prevent Alzheimer's disease, according to new animal research.
Reporting in the November issue of the FASEB Journal, researchers observed the effects of feeding the red wine to mice with Alzheimer's disease-type brain changes.
Compared to mice that received ethanol or water, the mice that were given Cabernet Sauvignon experienced significantly reduced Alzheimer's disease-type brain deterioration of memory function.
The researchers, from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, found Cabernet Sauvignon's benefits were due to its ability to prevent the generation of proteins that cause plaque build-up in the brain, which is the main characteristic of Alzheimer's disease.
"This study supports epidemiological evidence indicating that moderate wine consumption, within the range recommended by the FDA dietary guidelines of one drink per day for women and two for men, may help reduce the relative risk for AD clinical dementia," researchers Dr. Giulio Maria Pasinetti and Dr. Jun Wang said in a prepared statement.
The study findings will also be presented Oct 14-18 at the Society for Neuroscience annual meeting, in Atlanta.
Study finds red wine benefit
_____________________________________
A recent study conducted by researchers at Yale has found that two to three glasses of red wine daily is good for the heart. Dr. Bauer Sumpio, a professor at Yale in New Haven, CT found that fruit, particularly berries, have polyphenols--anti-oxidants that slow cell deterioration. Polyphenols also help prevent plaque build up on the smooth muscle cells and inhibit platelet formation, which can lead to blood clotting.
"The current consensus is that it is not just the alcohol, but something else," said Sumpio, section chief of vascular surgery in the Department of Surgery. "A better understanding of the health benefits of red wine and the specific polyphenolic extracts with these properties would be a great contribution to society."
