At the bottom of this particular box was a book called Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. It wasn't a new book but one that her sister had given to her and she in turn passed along to me. If you haven't read this book and are looking for a good Novel to read then I would highly recommend this one. It is mostly set in a depression era train circus. It is fluid and I was hooked from the first page to the last. I think I loved it so much because my Grandfather grew up during the depression and lived for a while in Hooverville. He hopped a freight train planning on heading to California when he was just a boy and wound up getting off at Hooverville which as I understand it was a hobo camp of sorts. He talks of the kindness and generosity of one old man who helped him set up camp and even gave him some potatoes to eat. It is funny because after reading this book and realizing that the vast majority of the Hobo's in these camps were under 21 I am inclined to think the old Man in his mind may have been a much younger one. In any case if you have ever had any interest in the circus days of old then this one is for you. The author did her homework before she began writing and it is evident on the pages as you read them. Historical and a wonderful look into a life that you rarely hear about. I never realized just how Majestic Elephants are and how intelligent these animals can be....I don't want to give anything away but I guess all I can say is Wow! It is a great read. I just thought I would put that out there in case anyone is interested. Happy Reading!
You know what...Four days ago while I was walking through the mall with a friend, I realize how badly i wanted one of those Vests!! ..*you know, the ones made with really thick fabric but conveniently made without any sleeves*...because throughout my teen years, I developed this rare disease where my limbs tend to heat up 20 degrees higher than the rest of my torso...hence the vest will be perfect for my rare condition....*yawn...
...and, and...
One day when I become filthy rich, I'd like to purchase one of those hip pre-ripped jeans..*which cost a fortune...but now, all I can afford is buy whole jeans where it might take me months..maybe years to develop holes...Damn the economy...*shakes fist ...

The End ...
In my long career of inspecting the ground carefully, I turn up four-leaf clovers all the time. I'd guess that I have at least a hundred collected and pressed into different books around the house. Sometimes I open a book and one falls out, pressed into a folded scrap of paper with the collection date and locality scribbled onto it. That is smaller than the number that I've found, because my personal rule is that if I'm with someone when I find it, or if I am on my way to go meet someone, I have to give it to that person. Friends and family and surprised colleagues have received many over the years; my regular walking partners have had scores, and bless them for their patience, because I am always stopping to scan. I have found at least two five-leaf clovers, but no more than that.
Well today I was lying in the back yard reading an article, and I spotted a TWO LEAF CLOVER. I took it inside and looked at it with a hand lens, and yes -- it was the real thing. Not an amputated three-leafer, but developmentally just two leaves. It was a big deal to me, yet I had never even thought of the possibility before. When you think about it, there's much more to admire in a two-leafer, getting by with just 67% as much photosynthesis, etc... What is it that makes us all automatically think more is better?
My lucky day!
