I listed a number of items, including several sets of my great-grandmothers' jewelry, on eBay to raise funds and awareness for knapsacksofhope .
eBay sent me a very stern letter and removed some of my listings that I had posted to raise money for www.knapsacksofhope.com (And threatened me with account suspension. It took me a long time to build up that feedback rating, they better not try to take away my account!)
Apparently, in order to claim to be raising funds for a charitable endeavor, you have to go thru a specific registration process, which seems to involve more mountains of paperwork. I've changed my remaining listing to instead include this message
"Dear Bidders- I had originally stated that all of my current listings benefit Knapsacks of Hope, aiding victims of Hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately, I did not realize that this was in violation of eBay's very specific regulations regarding fundraising for charitable endeavors. I do understand why such caution is necessary, it simply had not occurred to me that such regulations existed. I have edited the desriptions to remove these references. Knapsacks of Hope is looking into the necessary process to become a registered eBay charity. Until that time, please visit www.KnapsacksofHope.com for information on how you can help. Thank You, and Happy Bidding!"
Hopefully, that'll make 'em happy. I've altered the remaining eBay listings and am busy re-listing the ones they removed.
