MY HATS OFF TO ELI ROTH

O.k. I don't know where to even begin.....

My Hats off to Eli Roth.

First let me start with my experience with the movie.  I don't know all the ins and outs of movies as far as how they work and who does what or whatever.  I usually base my viewing of movies on the trailer or what people have said about the movie.  I do watch independent movies because some are really good and you don't know for sure unless you watch them.  I saw the previews for the this movie and it looked like a movie I'd want to see as a horror buff but then I saw presented by Quentin Tarantino I thought "no way" this movie is going to rock.

When the movie came out I couldn't wait to see it.  I left there like "whoah" that blows my mind ...a place where people pay to kill other people.  So I'm driving home and I'm thinking about the movie because it still blew me away that it was a place where people paid to kill people.  I must say I didn't see it coming at all and I was thinking what the hell is this place?  Are they going to sell their organs? What do they do here? Why are they doing this to these people?  Then the fact it turns out that people we paying someone to kill other people...That was f'in brilliant!  The concept, no one had ever done a movie about that or thought about that.

So I'm thinking back on the movie and I'm like, I have to tell my best friend Beth about this movie its going to f'in blow her mind.  She has to go see this movie.  To me for me it was like the Sixth Sense I couldn't stop talking about it.  So of course I bought the movie when it came out and watched it again and I loved the second one equally.  I recently bought the second dvd which when I was viewing it I pressed for the subtitles to come on because I didn't understand when someone said something and when I pressed for the subtitles I saw all this other stuff you could view and decided to watch it after the movie was over and what I realized after I put on the subtitles that there was alot of stuff being said in the background you just make out as chitter chatter but it was actually the actors talking and a bunch of other dialogue I had originally missed so it made the movie that much better for me as if that was possible.  So when the movie was over I started it back to the beginning with subtitles to see what I missed from the beginning making me love the movie that much more.  So when the movie was over I wanted to know everything about it and listened to the interview and saw the gag reels and listened to his commentary.

And I'm like are you f'in serious this was this guys first movie to write.  This guy is a f'in genius.  Kind of like Eminem.  I know you may not like Eminems' music but you have to say he was a f'in genius.  His lyrics, he could wrap and here is this white rapper saying these things.  He was genius in representing how the younger generation feels sometimes, they don't talk about it but they feel those feelings.  But anyway back to the movie.  So he made this movie on $3 million dollars unbelieveable.  It had the quality and feel of a big movie.  These actors were just genius, the fact that he just happened or thought about including these actors and they fit so perfectly to the charactar was unremarkable.  So I'm listening about his intentions for the movie and how he wanted the audience to feel and so I went back and watched the movie again and it worked perfectly.  I didn't realize it but his intentions were for us to really like Josh and see the world through Joshs eyes and really care about Josh and when he was killed off it was a real let down because Paxton was a jerk and Oli was just along for the ride.  Then you find yourself feeling sorry for this Jerk when he realizes hes all along and things are getting really weird.  I liked how Eli kind of drew you to the softer side of Paxton when they were walking down the street talking about the drowning it made Paxton alot more likeable before he killed off Josh.  Eli just thought of everything.

So anyway I love his political views you should listen to them I agree and they make alot of sense and the movie does coincide with politics and money and greed.  Where ultimately the rich can't get rich enough, they are bored and ultimately they have all the power and use it in violence.

The fact that some of the people who stood in the movie but weren't actors they had a role on the set but they fit perfectly in that role.  All so genius.

So anyway I think there should be a Hostel 3 I want one.  This time I think Beth should come back for them.  Shes smart, she has a ton of money and she is the type of person that would have to put an end to this.  But how does she go about doing it if they have their hands in everything?  So how is she going to put an end to this and go into how the factory operates, how do they get their clients?, how come all these people are involved but no one important not involved hasn't found out?  Eli your a genius you can do it.

GRINDHOUSE is the bomb!

I just came back from watching that double feature, GRINDHOUSE.  I was so into it, I couldn't get up to pee.  I was so transfixed, watching these movies was like falling in love.  Hot bodes, guns, cars, lots of gore, zombies, retro trailers by Rob Zombie, a total mix of so many things I like cinematically, all I was missing was a guy with a big cock!  If I had a boyfriend who took me out to see this double feature, he would've totally gotten his dick sucked all night long by me.  OR, better yet, during the show!  Watching movies like these really makes me yearn for a relationship again.  To just have that kind of company.  A man to be my cinema slave...  ahhhhhh....!

Totally inspired.  Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez have, once again, made me lust after them!

I also came into the movie theatre with a migraine -- didn't even stop to eat once the flick came on.  Seriously.  I enjoyed myself so much, I'm nearly healed now.  Gonna go home and be inspired.  Finally get the comic book finished, eat something sweet, and relax, relax, relax... into dreams!

Dude, I'll Totally Watch "Leprechaun In The Hood" Again
Alright, now that I'm back and have a free moment or 5, I can now indulge you all on my vacation happenings and shenanigans. Overall, I did less than I had hoped for various reasons but seriously, any time off work is something to behold.

After a weekend of homework, clothes shopping and watching Apocalypse Now with my dad and brother-in-law, it was a week of freezing sort-of bliss. Monday was the White Sox home opener so I brought my dad along for what turned out to be a brutal drubbing of epic proportions. Sox starter Jose Contreras managed to allow 9 runs in 1 + innings. It was a beautiful day wasted but I took something away from it all — the Cleveland Indians are one hell of a good team. They have been on the rise for the past 3 seasons but I think they are now very close to being the team to beat. Maybe the lull will slow them down a tad.

Tuesday was another rip roaring affair with the therapist. Actually, I have to say that I look forward to going these days. Aside from the obvious help since the debacle a while back, she's nice to look at. I also made a trip to snag the new Shadows Fall album. Overall, it's decent enough, sounding very much like The War Within. It's not exactly "Album Of The Year" material, but it's a good listen. There is one song that teeters on the edge of being unforgiveable though. I can't remember the name of it off hand but I think it's their attempt at having their own "One" or "The Unforgiven". If it gets enough airplay, it's destined for radio stardom. So, be on the lookout for some broad in a sports bar wearing a Shadows Fall girlie T with high heels and a cowboy hat because it might be around the corner.

Thursday brought on another trip to the White Sox game with Grampire. I wore a t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, sweatshirt, insulated hoodie and a White Sox hockey jersey with a snowhat and STILL froze my ass off the entire game. Once the shade kicked in, I might as well have watched the game inside of an igloo. Thankfully, the Sox squeaked out a cheap win in 9 innings because hypothermia was tapping on my shoulder by that time.

Friday morning, I woke up early and decided that I wanted some pancakes so I went to the local house of said food delicacy. When I sat down, I asked if I could get a copy of the Sun Times. After flipping through sports and what not, I ran across a review of Grindhouse and remembered that it came out that day. Being though my vacation flew by WAY too fast, I decided I needed to end it on a high note. Once again, I employed Grampire to join me, which he was all too eager to do. Captain Murray called in plenty of time to meet us at the theater for what would be the movie event of 2007.

I've been pretty excited to see Grindhouse since seeing the first trailer back in November. I can tell you that it exceeded my expectations. Both movies were amazing. Every faux trailer was excellent, a few of them bordering on absolute genius. OK, actually, Eli Roth's trailer for Thanksgiving was the funniest thing I may have ever seen. His movies have been hit or miss thus far (Cabin Fever = good, Hostel = worst movie ever) but I swear to God, if he made Thanksgiving into a real movie, we are talking Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Exorcist classic movie here. Seeing a cheerleader on a trampoline take a kitchen knife in the box........soooooooo amazing. I had fucking tears rolling down my face.

As for the movies themselves, both were highly entertaining. Robert Rodriguez went first with Planet Terror. For a Rodriguez movie, it was somewhat lacking in witty banter but it more than compensated with truckloads and truckloads of gore, gore and more gore. Basically, a virus brought back to America from Afghanistan gets loose and infects the population of a military base, turning them into flesh-eating zombies. Naturally, the zombies spread and start eating anyone in sight. The survivors band together and go on a mega-violent ass-kicking rampage. Truthfully, there isn't much more to the plot than that. It's pretty low on the narrative and high on the action and violence.

After a short "intermisson" came Death Proof. Despite the obvious slant towards 70's exploitation cinema, this was clearly a Quentin Tarantino movie through and through. Unlike Planet Terror, Death Proof was filled with a plethora of dialogue and pop culture references. The violence factor was toned down by comparison and it moved at a slower pace but again, the conversations were all well written. Death Proof was admittedly slow but it ended with a huge bang, featuring the absolute best car chase scene....well....ever. Better than Bullitt. Better than The French Connection. Better than all of them. Once again, Grindhouse is movie of the year.

So yeah, that basically was my vacation. Not too bad but the weather didn't help much.

On a completely unrelated note, I checked out Hell Yeah, the new band featuring Vinnie Paul from Pantera. Easily the worst thing I've heard in a long time. Completely boring rock/metal with no hooks, no interesting riffs, no nothing. Anyone who likes this tripe is clearly grabbing at straws. I almost wanted to hear Velvet Revolver after hearing Hell Yeah. Music has progressed and left this band so far behind. If they get big, I give up.

Clarence, I Like You...Always Have, Always Will
I was happy to have salvaged this past weekend before all was lost. Seriously, it was too frickin' nice out to do nothing all weekend long. Instead, after two straight days of york, I managed to fill my Sunday with activity of hilarity. After completing my Week 1 homework for two classes that I think are going to be hella fun, I went and played a brutal 9 holes of golf. The course felt like a giant wet sponge and I made some of the worst shots I can ever remember making. On one of them, I think I might have been a slight forward motion away from snapping my wrist clean. All in all, it was a rockin' good time and I'm glad golf season is practically underway.

After some fried chicken (oh yeah), I went video game shopping with ole' Grampire. He has joined me in the ranks of World Of Warcraft owners so in the next 24 hours, we should both be entering that world of silliness. I also made a beeline for a copy of True Romance on DVD. I watched it last night and I have to tell you, that movie still whomps....maybe more than it ever did before. Tony Scott should hire Quentin Tarantino to write all of his scripts because his other movies are hit or miss, Domino being the biggest offender. Anyway, if you haven't seen True Romance, rent it or buy it.
