Why do I call it an industry? Some people have realized that these job hunters require help and have come up with the perfect resources. There are entire books and web sites that offer expert advice regarding a great variety of professions and career options. Social groups provide personal counseling. TV has become a great medium to advertise jobs as well as have programs on careers. The radio is not far behind! Whatever be the resource, contact information is provided too.
Some career development professionals have made it their business to stick to a certain area of expertise only, where job hunting is concerned. For instance, some of them find another form of gainful employment for those workers who have been laid off at their previous jobs. Others aid those people who have constrained themselves to the house for 10 years or even more, and then discover that they need to go back to work once again. Basically, these experts take care of the special needs of each individual.
Of course, with the emergence of the Internet, job hunting has taken on a new meaning! There are many advantages to be gained from browsing the Net. One gets a bird’s eye view of all the jobs that are advertised out there. So finding a match becomes easier, and right from the comfort of one’s living room! There are no time constraints involved in job hunting here, even midnight is okay! The best part of the whole thing is, you are “seen” by everyone, everywhere!
Before uploading a resume, it would be wise to do some research on the company and position being applied for. What are the employers like? What is the professional background of the company? What do past/current employees feel about the management and the company itself? Pay and perks offered? These are just a few basic questions which come to mind; there could be many more. The answers to these questions can help the job hunter to narrow down his/her choice of preferences.
There are other aspects to job hunting too. It may be a fresh college graduate or it may be someone who has gone through a number of jobs already, but each one finds job hunting a strain. It is not just a question of sending a resume (even a resume has to be written out properly); there are other skills that are required, such as personal grooming and demeanor, facing an interview, and so on. Hence, quite a few employment services and schools have come up, offering to train the individual in developing these skills.
To conclude, job hunting does bring on a lot of stress, especially if quick results are not to be seen. It hurts that so much of searching has come to naught. One has to have a lot of patience for the right job to come along. Also, to put everything in a realistic perspective, there is nothing wrong in working one’s way up from the bottom of the ladder if top positions are not immediately available. Maybe one could spend less time on brooding, and instead concentrate on developing a different set of skills or some kind of useful activity till an excellent job shows up.

For many reasons the fastest growing demographic on the internet today is freelance moms and frugal shoppers. These people also like contests and internet marketers have learned that contests are a great way to harvest a lot of email addresses and build a benevolent brand. So the number of online contests available to consumers is way up this summer, and you will soon discover that without a plan of action it can all get very overwhelming.
First you should adopt disposable email addresses, like gmail or hotmail and use the identities to enter contests.
Then create a routine and find a good contest index websites to filter through the old and new business and make it easier to schedule 'contest time' . North of the border, I use All Canada Contests which divides hundreds of web challenges into regions, and also by the prizes offered , like automobiles, electronics, home prizes, travel packages etc
I usually avoid contests with spectacular prizes to enter contests that offer multiple prizes. The odds of winning something are dramatically increased in contests with multiple prizes. Find contests with ‘prize schedules’ where there’s a quota to be dispensed according to demographics – these benefit the consistent entrant who varies his or her routine.
Make entering contest easier by using downloading and using free form filler software such as RoboForm
There’s a few different systems, but RoboForm lets users rapidly enter repetitive data (name, e-mail, address and phone number) by using their mouse and clicking prefabricated options. This makes the process much easier and builds your chances of success by increasing the amount of contests you can enter in a day.
If you can submit applications to one hundred contests a day, you can enter five hundred contests a week, and that’s two thousand chances a month, and that offers a reasonable chance of something and perhaps making as much as a doctor or an investment banker would have earned in the same amount of time.
Okay, today was a good day, THANK THE LORD. Claudia called in, and they couldn’t get a sub. I was nervous because I felt obligated to pull ENC because Eileen was passive-aggressive earlier this week and told Kate about how sometimes I can’t take her. I also REALLY wanted E to take his Science test today and tomorrow so he’d be DONE with testing for the year.
Started out real nervous when at about 9:45 (after a long game of chess, and a lot of ‘You gonna fight a Queen?!?!!’ that cracked me up because I’m thinking New York Queens, not chess pieces), we mentioned the option of taking it now, and he said, “I’m not taking a Science test!”. But then he asked if it was an MCAS (Mass State) test, and when we said yes, he was more ready to do it (would have thought OUR Science test would have been preferable to a big, scary, state one, but I said nothing and pulled it out). I took A to work on some reading and math, and Parker and he took day 1 without incident. Had to buy the kid pizza as part of the arrangement, but completely worth it. I HATE STANDARDIZED TESTS. GOOD LORD. I HATE THEM. THEY TELL YOU NOTHING ABOUT A STUDENT. I wish I could burn them all.
After lunch, we just basically had a free day. I had an AMAZING throw at recess (and by that I mean, my hand didn’t let go of the tennis ball and I just kinda threw it into the ground, which Parker took great enjoyment in mimicking). We did reading, A had Roxy as a reading buddy, and then when Jerry came in, they worked on the bridge and A and I went to the good computer lab and since the internet was broken again, we played with Type to Learn, which he LOVED. That’s awesome.
After 2nd recess, we sat around and made cards/signs/things for D, because tomorrow E is going to visit him at the hospital. He’s so excited to see him. I talked to his mom after school, and there is a CHANCE he will be at BSE next year with D. That would be interesting. Not sure GOOD interesting, ESPECIALLY if the class would be just the 2 of them. They NEED social interaction with others, they NEED people/peers to frustrate them and challenge their ‘progress’ so they can actually MAKE progress. I love the 2 of them together, but they definitely can’t exist in their own world.
I just wanna put out there that I LOVE working with little kids. I have the greatest profession in the world. I am reminded of this constantly. I say ‘little’, and I like the really young ones, but I love the older-elementary crowd, too. I’m so lucky to interact with them every day. I think my favorite moment of the day was at lunch. I was called to the back by a crowd of 6th graders to settle some dispute that I couldn’t follow. I turn around, and my little buddy, Austin, is eating his applesauce calmly. He got some on his lip. Instead of reaching to the pile of napkins right next to his tray, he pulls his knee up, and wipes it on his pants. And he was so earnest about it when I pointed out the better option he had. They delight me to no end. Then I went to go sit with A and he was at a table with Renna and Juliet and some other 5th grade ladies, and I got to watch Renna ‘drink’ her chocolate milk. By ‘drink’, I mean she shakes it up, and then eats the bubbles off the top, shaking it more, and then spooning out more bubbles. I miss being young enough that I can do those things and not get looked at.
