Pretty Good Day @ MindSay

MAN-apause?
Ok, Lately I have been kind of an emotional mess. Tuesday night I couldn't sleep and was up all night and ended up crying my eyes out.
Wednesday, I started out the day feeling depressed then felt really good then I started to feel really lonely.
Last night I listened to Jack Johnson's 2003 album "On and On". Man, I forgot how great that album is. I mean when your feeling down and just want to listen to some sad slow music while you mope, you really can't beat "On and On".
Today, I'm feeling pretty good. But I have no energy. It feels kind of like a Monday to me.

Anyways, total subject change.  Sunday is Mother's Day. May 15 is my parents 28th  wedding anniversary and May 17  is my mom's birthday. I wonder if Hallmark makes a card that covers all three. You know like "Happy Mother's Anniversary Birthday Day" card. That would be awesome. But, of course, no one but me is really that cheap and lazy so I may have to figure something out so that I don't look like a forgetful, unloving son. Plus my mom is the most loving, forgiving ,and all around best mother a guy like me could ask for, she deserves all of it and more.
Anyone have any god ideas for mothers day and all that?

Mark

[update: BTW I just changed my settings so that non-Mindsayers can read this blog. It's been so long that I think the people (more specifically, person) I was trying to keep from reading this got the hint. However, i will still be making about a quarter of my entries "friends only". And if I notice people that I don't want reading this again I may change it back. Just thought I give you all the 411]

haha

so apparently i'm a different person when i write. cool. like i know the whole anger thing really shows a lot more than usual but yea. sorry to scare anyone that actually knows me, lol.

so today was a good day. one of my contacts fell out in geometry and was all ripped. so i'm prolly gonna go half blind rest of the day.

after school me, milly, holly, and yadira sang and ronnie hung out and sang a little too. it was pretty good but ganschow kept saying how we needed more attitude, more power. then i told him how i had no passion and he somewhat flipped out on me.

but i really don't. except for a few things. and even those aren't as huge for me anymore. like music, specifically the sax is still a passion of mine. i love it more than anything, you know, but at the same time i have to be realistic. music can always be a part of my life, but it's impossible to make music my life.

and past music... i don't know what else there is. reading is no longer a passion of mine, it's down to barely a hobby. school isn't a passion like it was when i was really little, it's a necessity and often an annoyance. art is probably next on the list. i do actually love it, like when i get a drawing just so, it's even better than music. but i'm so damn picky about how i draw, a drawing is usually never good enough.

blah. i think i'm going to go in the hot tub. my dad totally offered to take me driving, which normally i would jump at, but he's all drunk and shit. and i can't stand him drunk. makes me mad. and where would i drive out here, anyway? around the block? woo. so hot tub it is.

oh. and... i ♥ james!

which is totally different from loving him, if you were going to go all oooh about it.

My Life, Rated (explained)
Hmm. That quiz was an interesting one, and I guess I could give some reasoning behind it. My mind is about average because there aren't any intense, horrid things to wreck my mind every day, but I'm not the best either. I feel I'm in pretty good shape even though I don't exercise very much. I'm surprised I got a 7 in spirit considering I'm an strong atheist. My friends and family could be better, especially the friend part. My love was tossed out the window by too many bitches, so it's low. And, I'm not very well financially because I don't have a job and am still depending on parents for flow.

Oh well. Hopefully once I get the fuck out of here, things'll get better

December Viewings!
December 2007

Top Movies this month:
  1. Coeurs/Private Fears in Public Places (2006) Much better than I was expecting!! I usually don't like Alain Resnais so much. There were a few problems with it, like I really don't know that someone so "religious" would also be a stripper or ex-stripper, whatever she was.
  2. The Circus (1928) Sound was just coming in, yet Charlie Chaplin would make silents for several more years. This one is charming and among his best.
  3. The Fisher King (1991) Excellent.
  4. A New Leaf (1971)
  5. Orfanato, El (2007) (Theater) Produced by the director of Pan's Labyrinth I went back and forth on whether or not to see it. However, I decided to see it and was pleasantly surprised. In the same vein as Pan's Labyrinth and The Sixth Sense, but of course different, it was a pretty good thriller with a lot of interesting things coming into play.
  6. The Shop Around the Corner (1940)

The rest:
  1. Atonement (2007) (Theater) This movie will make my 10 top worst films of the year!
  2. Beaumarchais, l'insolent (1996)
  3. Bonjour tristesse (1958) (second attempt at viewing) I liked it much more the second time.
  4. Charlie Wilson's War (2007) (Theater) Terrible.
  5. Darling (1965) Pretty good. You don't hear about this one too much today!
  6. From the Earth to the Moon (1958)
  7. Garbo (2005) A documentary that provided insight.
  8. The Great Debaters (2007) (Theater)
  9. The In-Laws (2003/I) Really bad!
  10. Lemming (2005) Interesting in a strange way.
  11. No Country for Old Men (2007) (Theater)
  12. Six Degrees of Separation (1993)
  13. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) (Theater) Not very enjoyable, but there was a decent performance by Johnny Depp and a great performance by Alan Rickman. A twist at the end.
  14. Swimming with Sharks (1994) Pretty good, but not an immediate favorite.
  15. The Tattooed Stranger (1950) Not bad. A little cliche, but then again it was the precursor to Memento!
  16. There Will Be Blood (2007) (Theater) It really surprises me how bland some critically acclaimed movies are. This fell way short.
  17. Village of the Damned (1960) A pretty funny movie about alien children.
  18. Waterloo Bridge (1940) Vivien Leigh was ok, Robert Taylor was pretty good.
  19. Winchester '73 (1950)
  20. Zemlya/Earth (1930)
  21. Modern Romance (1981) Pretty funny.
  22. The Savages (2007) (Theater) Ok.
  23. Pendulum (1969) Saw it because of Jean Seberg. It was alright.
  24. Virtue (1932)
  25. Kameradschaft (1931) I don't usually like GW Pabst but this was good.
  26. The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)
  27. Shadowlands (1993) A wonderful movie. I avoided it for so long because I saw a stage version of it and am very familiar with the story. But I'm so glad that Anthony Hopkins played C.S. Lewis. It was a treat.
  28. St. Louis Blues (1958) A good musical with Eartha Kitt. I really liked the music of real-life composer WC Handy.
  29. To Have and Have Not (1944) A good but silly film with Bogie & Bacall. Their first.
  30. The Bucket List (2007) (Theater)
  31. Sceicco bianco, Lo / The White Sheik (1952) Good music.
  32. Live and Let Die (1973) A James Bond with really bad acting, yet there was sosmething strangely worthwhile about it as well.
  33. Boksuneun naui geot / Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (2002)
  34. *Gran Casino (Tampico) (1947) Most people hate this Bunuel film, but I liked it. Also with commentary by Philip Kemp.
  35. Cronos (1993) I'm trying to decide if I like this or Hellboy more.
  36. Voulez-vous danser avec moi? (1959) A double whammy. Brigitte Bardot in a Marcel Carne directed film. While not either of their finest, it's still a delightful murder mystery.

Cary Grant:
  1. The Bishop's Wife (1947)
  2. Dream Wife (1953) Really lame and still kinda cute. The most impressive thing was Deborah Kerr speaking a completely different language.
  3. Every Girl Should Be Married (1948) Cheesy, but completely enjoyable. This movie made my day.

Gloria Swanson:
  1. Hollywood Biography: Gloria Swanson
  2. Teddy at the Throttle (1917) (short)
  3. The Danger Girl (1916) (short)
  4. The Sultan's Wife / Caught in a Harem(1917) (short)
  5. His New Job (1915) (short)
  6. Don't Change Your Husband (1919)

William Wellman:
  1. The Boob (1926) Silent An ok silent. Checked it out because of director William Wellman. A really great dream sequence that is about flying cars and people falling. Not sure what it means but it doesn't have to mean anything. A treat.
  2. The Public Enemy (1931) Not as impressed with it as I thought I was going to be. However, it was a must see. Harlow, Cagney, and Wellman are great collaborators together.
Rewatches:
Juno (2007) (Theater) See last month's post for a mini-review.
Alfred Hitchcock episodes:
  1. "Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Baby Sitter (#1.32)" (1956) This one's kinda funny in a morbid way.
  2. "Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Mink (#1.36)" (1956) This is the second AH episode that dealt with a mink so I thought I'd seen it before. But it was a pleasant new one.

Shorts (1907) (All in the Theater):
  1. Vie du Christ, La / The Life, Passion, and Death of Jesus Christ (1906) 6/10
  2. Spectre rouge, Le/The Red Spectre (1907) 6/10
  3. Dumb Sagacity (1907)7/10 based on Black Beauty (1910) and Rescued by Rover (1905)
  4. Smuggled Into America (1907) 6/10
  5. The Unwritten Law: A Thrilling Drama Based on the Thaw-White Tragedy (1907)7/10
  6. Just Married (1912) 6/10 IMDB is wrong. This film is 1907.
  7. The First Quarrel - Lubin, August 3, 1907 6/10 *movie isn't listed on IMDB
  8. Trial Marriages (1907)6/10 I was expecting this to be much better. There were two girls I remember most: Jealous Girl and Tired Girl. Tired Girl was my favorite because she did nothing around the house and when she tried she would always collapse of fatigue.
  9. The 'Teddy' Bears (1907) 8/10
  10. The Haunted Hotel (1907) 6/10 Not so haunted. But it was a success in France, and there was one moment that was pretty good, it involved sliced bread.
  11. The Bandit King (1907) 4/10 *fragments **first westerns
  12. The Girl from Montana (1907) 5/10 *fragments **first westerns
  13. His First Ride (1907) 7/10 Pretty darn good. My second or third favorite. About a guy who is trying to ride a bicycle and keeps crashing into other people.
  14. Mishaps of a Baby Carriage - Selig, October 16, 1907 6.5/10 *movie isn't listed on IMDB The best part about this "runaway baby carriage" movie is when the carriage goes down a roof and the side of the house (all without harming the baby of course). However, it is not realistic for a baby carriage to get out of control and go all over town, so I liked the bicycle one (see above) better.
  15. An Awful Skate; or, The Hobo on Rollers (1907) 6/10
  16. Ben Hur aka The Chariot Race (1907) 5/10
  17. Cochon danseur, Le (1907) 5.5/10 It was a little gross when they showed the pig's tongue.
  18. Kiriki, acrobates japonais, Les (1907) 6/10
  19. Légende de Polichinelle, La aka Harlequin's Story (1907) 5.5/10 Not as good as it sounds. We got a warning that there was another movie inserted in this one, but it couldn't be edited, because it was borrowed from the U.S. Copyright Office.
  20. N'embrassez pas votre bonne / The Servant's Good Joke (1909) (USA) 6/10
  21. A Little Girl Who Did Not Believe in Santa Claus (1907) 6.5/10
  22. A Night in Dreamland, a Fairy Fantasy - Vitagraph, December 5, 1907 6/10 *movie isn't listed on IMDB
