Victory for Democracy!
Venezuelans have voted to lift limits on terms in office for elected officials, allowing President Hugo Chavez to run for re-election.

Our Long National Nightmare Of Peace And Prosperity Is Finally Over
That was a line from a great piece that The Onion did back in January of 2001 (who knew that The Onion employed psychics?). I was reminded of that line while reading about what President Bush said during his speech a this years Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC):

"My energy is up, my spirit is high, and I will finish strong. And in the meantime, we will elect a new President. We’ve had good debates and soon we’ll have a nominee who will carry a conservative banner into this election and beyond. Listen, the stakes in November are high. This is an important election. Prosperity and peace are in the balance."

Prosperity, huh? I'm sure the 7,500 people who stood in line to apply for 350-400 jobs at a Wal-Mart in Georgia last month don't have Bush's confidence in this country's prosperity.

And I bet that the families of the 42 people killed today in Iraq might have a different idea about the peace part of that speech too.

Man, his exit can't come too soon as far as I'm concerned.

Chavez wins re-election by wide margin

The Venezuelan electorate has chosen Hugo Chavez as their President for another six years. It was not even close. Mexican election was so close a few months ago that the Leftists are still rioting and exchanging fists in the Mexican Congress. That is not the case in Venezuela. With 71% of the vote reporting, Chavez has beaten Rosales 61% to 38%.

That kind of support is huge for Chavez. This is a mandate to continue with the Socialist/Marxist and anti-American agenda. Chavez is in a position to take the mantle from Castro who will more than likely pass away soon.

The difference between Cuba and Venezuela is resources. Cuba has maintained Marxism in poverty and military dictatorship. Venezuela has the full support of its people to bend toward Marxism and yet it is a rich oil Capitalist nation simultaneously.

Africans routs for Diack for 2007
AAF President Lamine Diack

The African Athletics Confederation (AAC)Council has adopted a resolution supporting the re-election of Senegalese Lamine Diack as IAAF President at next year's elections.
The elections are scheduled to hold during the IAAF Congress in Osaka, Japan on 22-23 August 2007.

The AAC Council issued a statement after it's meeting in Port Louis, Mauritius on the eve of the 2006 edition of the African Athletics Championships, that reads: "Taking into account the forthcoming IAAF elections in 2007 and noting with satisfaction the excellent work accomplished by IAAF President Lamine Diack, we are urging Mr. Lamine Diack to stand for re-election for another term in order to continue serving the development of athletics around the world."

So what do you think? shpuld Africa been looking for another candidate or does Mr Diack deserve another shot at the IAAF?

Let's have your say?

president election and some more

Just looking at the tags make you wonder what they all have in common, doesn't it? Yesterday was the second round of the Finnish president election. It was a disappointment. Tarja Halonen, the sitting president, was re-elected, just some 100.000 votes more than Sauli Niinisto, or if we talk percentages 51.2% - 48.8 % or something (don't know if that makes it 100 % in total). Smiley Why does the wrong candidate always win?

Okey, another subject. I took the courage to call the dentist today. *shrugs* Thank God I didn't get a time until April 3rd. I hate the dentists!

Soon I'll go to the shop where they sell glasses (can't remember English words at the moment). I will get myself a time to check my eyes, because I am going to buy new glasses. The once I have now, I have had for several years and the color is fading.

What else? Oh, right, the stickers. I need to buy some stickers and a notepad to send to a girl in the United Kingdom. She will send me several Harry Potter stickers!!! Yay! I can't wait. She promised to send them on Wednesday, the same day as I'll send the stickers and the notepad. So they will probably come early next week.

The snow has kind of started to melt again. It's a bit icy on the streets. I wanted to take my bike today, but I couldn't take it because of the icy streets. I don't want to fall.

Better go now. I'll go to the school library first, then to the library in the town, then to the shop with glasses and finally to get the stickers.
