President @ MindSay
The Problem of Sarah
I am at a loss, honestly. As a woman, I really do want to support female politicians, but I refuse to support one that is basically inept. (Not to mention the few opinions she seems to have seem to be a bit to anti-woman for my tastes). The people of Alaska should consider a recall when this election is over. I am appalled at the McCain campaign for being so blatant in their pandering to us "womenfolk" and I'm disgusted that Sarah Palin would actually have the delusion that she is somehow qualified for this job. Beyond the fact that I feel like this is politics at its basest form it worries me for the messages it sends. Once again a half-way pretty chick gets passes from the media and politicians, even though she's a dilettante at best when it comes to national politics.
The conservatives come out swinging, "Don't you be mean to our girl Sarah!" Well, your girl Sarah has decided to insert herself into perhaps the most important election in my lifetime, not to mention put forth the idea that she is somehow qualified to be the 2nd most powerful person in the World.
As a woman, I am offended at these types of actions. Pundits saying that Joe Biden has to use kid gloves with her during the debate, because the American people could perceive him as mean and condescending. Please....she put herself out there and if she says something idiotic or rambles like she did with Couric - she deserves what she gets. She's not running for Vice President of the PTA, she's running for the Vice Presidency of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! The woman barely grasps simple economics, she can't name a SCOTUS case beyond Roe...all she can do is regurgitate talking points. Would anyone be letting this go if Mitt would have gotten the call? Hell No. She looks good on a poster....wow, we've come so far. It's sad to me that a good portion of the comments surrounded Mrs. Palin is of the "I'd do her" variety. Have we really regressed so far in our society that THIS is the level of discourse in this country? Now I realize there is a real constituency to made out of the citizens of this nation that want Sarah to "show us her shit" and then go shoot a moose with her, but I'd like to think we are capable of more.
The damage that this candidacy has done to women politicians remains to be seen, but I have to think that in circles where the idea of a female President makes them uneasy...this doesn't help. I have to wonder if that was a consideration when picking her. After the success that Hillary Clinton had, did the boys get together and decide that the best way to deal with the possibility of more women running for office would be to completely destroy one? The religious conservatives in particular have always had issues with women who worked outside of the home and left the kids to be raised by daycares and nannies, yet this woman is getting a pass from those same groups...why? Is it because she's Pro-Life and attends church? Or is it because if she quits the race they all get to say "See I told you women shouldn't be in power!"? I hate to get all tin-foil hat on this, but the thought has crossed my mind...with all the truly gifted women politicians out there..why this one? I realize the appeal of the outside of the Beltway idea, but I'm sure there was someone who would have at least known what she was talking about, beyond some snarky retort.
The basic point is she is running for the second highest office in our country. She deserves to be treated just like any other candidate. That's what true feminists believe, that in instances where true equality is possible, women should be treated no differently.

By the way, if anyone is looking for information on Sarah Palin live from Alaska, I highly recommend www.themudflats.net
Soon after Sarah Palin was elected mayor of the foothill town of Wasilla, Alaska, she startled a local music teacher by insisting in casual conversation that men and dinosaurs coexisted on an Earth created 6,000 years ago -- about 65 million years after scientists say most dinosaurs became extinct -- the teacher said.
After conducting a college band and watching Palin deliver a commencement address to a small group of home-schooled students in June 1997, Wasilla resident Philip Munger said, he asked the young mayor about her religious beliefs.
Palin told him that "dinosaurs and humans walked the Earth at the same time," Munger said. When he asked her about prehistoric fossils and tracks dating back millions of years, Palin said "she had seen pictures of human footprints inside the tracks," recalled Munger, who teaches music at the University of Alaska in Anchorage and has regularly criticized Palin in recent years on his liberal political blog, called Progressive Alaska.
The idea of a "young Earth" -- that God created the Earth about 6,000 years ago, and dinosaurs and humans coexisted early on -- is a popular strain of creationism.
Though in her race for governor she called for faith-based "intelligent design" to be taught along with evolution in Alaska's schools, Gov. Palin has not sought to require it, state educators say.

“Hey Bob, will you vote for Candidate A for president?”
“It depends on who it is, John?”
“I just want to see if you would support a candidate based on his ideas rather than on his party identification or political ideology. “
“I do that anyway, but, sure, I’m game. Let’s play. What does he believe?”
“Well, for starters, he believes the individual states should be able to prohibit abortion except in the case of the life of the mother.”
“Goodness! That’s a deal breaker right off the bat.”
“Wait, he also believes in jettisoning the mental distress justification for seeking an abortion.”
“In other words, he believes in overturning Roe v Bolton (1973). That’s unacceptable. He doesn’t support a woman’s right to choose. I can’t support that. Personal sovereignty is very important me. Who is this guy?”
“Hold on, Bob, don’t quit now. Indulge me for a moment longer.”
“Okay. What are some of his other ideas?”
“He holds the NRA’s interpretation of the Second Amendment.”
“You mean that there’s an individual right to keep and bear arms?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, the Roberts’ Court agrees with him on that. It was a bad decision, but I’m not getting too exercised about that. What else does this guy believe? ”
“He believes in the death penalty even for crimes that do not involve murder.”
“The death penalty is wrong, period. But I’m curious about this idea of applying it to crimes that don’t involve murder. Is he talking about spying, espionage - ”
“Child rape.”
“You’re kidding me. That’s reckless. If a child rapist has death to fear for his crime he is more likely to kill the witness – victim. He is proposing that we put children at risk for murder, John. The guy doesn’t sound very bright to me.”
“Maybe not. He believes that the state should promote religious principles and values. ”
“Now you’re scaring me. In what way?”
“He wants to use taxpayer dollars to fund faith-based organizations. He says he wants to put religious-based organizations central to his work in the White House. ”
“He sounds like a fanatic.”
“He may be. He also supports government surveillance of US citizens and voted to grant immunity to telecom corporations that provided the government with private consumer information.”
“That’s entirely unacceptable! This man doesn’t respect the Constitution. How could he be president?”
“Wait, Bob; there’s more. He says that black people are responsible for their problems. He chastises black parents for feeding their children Popeye’s Chicken and blames inner-city economic conditions on blacks throwing trash out of their car windows. ”
“Oh brother. A blame-the-victim type.”
“Then you’re going to love this. He says that the older generation of civil rights leaders are bitter frustrated men who have a pessimistic view of America.”
“Like who?”
“Well, Martin Luther King, Jr., for one. The candidate says his vision of America is much more optimistic than King’s. ”
“Is this guy white?”
“No, he’s black.”
“It’s Alan Keyes, right?”
“No, no, he claims to be a liberal.”
“Doesn’t sound like one – at least not a progressive one.”
“Hardly. He also wants to expand the war in Central Asia. He says that we ought to invade Pakistan if the Pakistani’s can’t control their borders.”
“Does this man hold any positions that speak for him rather than against him?”
“Well, he says he wants to make health care accessible and affordable.”
“Who is this guy, John, so I can be sure not to vote for him?”
“Barack Obama.”

After seeing the sad choices currently running for president I decided that the American people need a better candidate…someone with an actual sense of humor, someone who engages in “straight talk.” Not that there is anything wrong with any other kind of talk, its just that I don’t personally swing that way. So in the interest of straight talk, here are some of my campaign promises and where I stand on some of the issues…
Campaign Ads
I promise to NOT go on TV and bash everyone else, even if they are all a bunch of idiots, hell I will ban ALL campaign commercials-because who wants to listen to a bunch of liars, tell you that they aren‘t liars. Not me.
The Draft
I promise to re-establish the draft…but only long enough to draft Dubya and my ex and send them to Iraq.
Freedom of information
I promise to make free background checks available for all single women. Dating is difficult enough already, it would be nice to find out before hand if a guy was a total loser.
Term Limits
I am strongly in favor of term limits. The term Tomkat, for example, has gotten way out of hand. The same goes for Brangelina. There need to be some definite limits placed on these types of terms.
Campaign Finance Reform
The cost of a National election is probably more than the GDP of Mexico. This is money that is being wasted on lobbyists and marketing firms. I think this money would best be used to actually buy Mexico. This might also help with the whole illegal immigration issue too. Sure we don’t need it right now, but you never know-in the future they might discover some useful natural resource in Mexico and we can lay claim to it now.
War on Terror
I am strongly in favor of the war on terror, but why limit it to just terror? Let’s expand it to all other unpleasant states of mind. How about a war on boredom, or stress? Let’s not stop fighting until we are all happy, all the time.
A woman's right to choose
I am a firm supporter of a woman's right to choose, but let's not limit it to just women. Men should be able choose too. I think we should take turns. Let's say the man chooses the restaurant, then the woman can choose the movie. Or the man can choose what to wear, and the woman can choose whether she wants to go out with him again. Give and take...that's where its at.
This is just a small part of my platform, if interested you can contribute to my campaign by sending cash donations. Let me know if you're interested in becoming my vice presidential candidate...
