WTF Preshow - Swimmin'
If you listened to last week's show, you know that Johnny5 and Woody were back in town.  After doing our WTF thang with them, we went over to Woody's parent's house to do some swimmin' in the pool.  That inspired tonight's preshow.  Plus, it was an excuse to play another Baby Teeth track.

Speaking of Baby Teeth... After last week's show, I went to the Baby Teeth website and signed up for the mailing list and said, "Thanks for the rockin' Madison show."  Do you know that the lead singer wrote me back to thank me for coming... from his own personal e-mail account?  Talk about connecting with your fans.  Billy Ocean has never written me from his personal e-mail account.

Nightswimming - R.E.M.
The Swimmer - Sleater-Kinney
Swimsuit Issue - Sonic Youth
Swim - Ani Difranco
Swim Team - Baby Teeth

WTF Preshow - For the Heathers
Last week several of the Madison-based WTFers had the opportunity to catch the band Baby Teeth open up for the Redwalls.  Baby Teeth were pretty frickin' cool.  Not only that, they created an awesome little EP a few years ago that is actually a really cool little musical experiment.  Instead of me trying to explain it poorly, here is the explanation straight from the EP's liner notes.

This EP is the result of a dare.  The three members of Baby Teeth were each to write and home-record a song in airtight seclusion.  The three songs would share nothing more than a title: "Heather".  Beyond that, each member was left completely to his own devices.  After several months of secretive labor, it was time for the great unveiling.  Initial reactions were of shock and surprise.  Then, some joy.  This extended-play release is for the Heathers.

Pretty cool, huh?  So tonight, tune in at 8:45 PM CST to hear the three members of "Baby Teeth" perform songs called "Heather".  And, we'll also throw in an awesome remake that Baby Teeth did of one of their own songs.  Then, stick around, because at 9:00 PM CST, the brand new, free range, 100% non-scripted WTF comes flying at you.

WTF Preshow - Jill Cunniff
I'm a little torn by this week's musical selection. Scratch that, as it's not exactly a true statement. I'm a little torn by if I want you to know about her or not. Allow me to explain. While I'm extremely proud to be presenting an artist you probably don't know about, I really wish you did know about her. Music like this needs more exposure.

Jill Cunniff is a name you probably don't recognize, but you might recognize the name of the band that she was in earlier during her career. Jill was one of the ladies of Luscious Jackson, a group that had some modest success in the 90s. After Luscious Jackson broke up in 2000, Jill has generally remained quietly on the sidelines. Not so anymore, because two weeks she released her debut solo album, "City Beach". Jill's music is an alternative take on pop music and it's very refreshing to hear it now when there is a lot of generic, processed music on our radio stations. A great mix of live instruments, fresh samples, amazingly catchy hooks, and a beautiful voice are what you are going to find across every track of "City Beach".

Tune in around 8:45 PM CDT time tonight to hear a sampling of songs from Jill Cunniff's debut solo album, "City Beach". And if you aren't running out to find a store open where you can purchase the CD, stick around after the music stops for the WTF Radio talk show; starting it's weekly live broadcast at 9:00 PM CDT.

WTF Preshow Presents - Coverville!

WTF is all about love. We love our listeners. We love doing the show. We love donuts.

We also love to spread the love, so this week's preshow is an homage to one of the better podcasts available on the internets. The podcast is called Coverville and you should really check it out. 2 or 3 times a week, podcast-workhorse Brian Ibbot puts out a new show that is strictly cover songs. You'll hear some that you know and you'll hear many that you don't.

Tonight I chose several of my favorite cover songs. You may notice that there are two Rolling Stones songs in there. I'm not a huge fan of the Rolling Stones, but I just couldn't put this list together without including both of those songs. Preshow-regular Charlotte Martin delivers one of the most emotional versions of "Wild Horses" that I have ever heard. Chan Marshall of Cat Power does something truly amazing with "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", tearing the song down to it's core and presenting it in a way that you might not recognize it even if you are the biggest Rolling Stones fan.

Grab a blanket and cover up at around 8:35 PM CDT for this Coverville-inspired WTF Preshow. Make sure you follow those Coverville links if you liked this preshow or the concept!

The Boys of Summer - Don Henley, cover performed by Bree Sharp
Wild Horses - The Rolling Stones, cover performed by Charlotte Martin
Leavin' Here - Eddie Holland, cover performed by Pearl Jam
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones, cover performed by Cat Power
Dear God - X.T.C., cover performed by Sarah McLachlan
Mad World - Tears for Fears, cover performed by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews
