Political Views @ MindSay
I was thumbing through one of my older issues of Popular Science from a few months back, and I came across an article that I'd forgotten about - the Brits possibly building a fleet of modular robotic battleships. The same country who used to be a world superpower due to the absolute power of their navy, the one that lost that power steadily after the Napoleonic Wars, may be getting that strength back with a new potency and versatility.
These ships are specially made to operate on a crew that's less than 2% the size of what is currently necessary, with no decrease in ability from the older models. What's more is that these ships are going to be taking advantage of a new technological trend - modularity. Essentially, four to five models of ship are going to be constructed, but with the ability to have all of their weaponry and special equipment switched out at a moments notice to be re-tasked to a radically new job.
Now onto one of my favorite innovations that's come about recently: Vertical Farming. The concept is based on building spiral-shaped towers in urban areas that use hydroponics and nutrioponics (suspending the plants in a jelly substance made of nutrients and reprocessed plants) to grow plants in a very controlled environment. These towers, too, would be modular and able to be stacked and added to later - as well as utilizing solar power to maintain all of the systems.
Locating these tower in urban areas allows for a number of unique advantages over old methods of farming that use land inefficiently and consume massive amounts of fossil fuel to maintain. The increase of jobs, coupled with the CO2 processing abilities of plants and the vicinity to the places the food is to be sold allows an overall increase in economic and environmental health.
Ah. Cloudboats. Wonderful little inventions, they are. Essentially, they break down to being oversized, satellite-controlled catamarans that charge themselves using solar power and use the air around them and ocean under them to help regenerate the atmosphere. They would move about freely, keeping themselves free of shipping lanes and allowing themselves to be lent to a number of other uses (floating wi-fi anyone?).
I'm going to rest for a bit. I might get back to this fun stuff later.

- First of all, I'd like to thank you for welcoming my pal, chatnoir to Mindsay. He is really interested in conversing with people about their political and world views. He says that he is more interested in the discourse than the actual posting of blogs, but being the
pushypersuasive person that I am, I keep trying to get him to realize that posting encourages discourse.
- Today is the day of the family meeting where my parents will officially announce they are getting divorced. *rolls eyes* . Have you ever wished you could just skip over certain aspects of your life? Geez us! My sister is planning on dodging the meeting. True to form, she will use the old avoidance technique. That strategy never worked for me because I was alway expected to do and put up with everything. It's the burden of the oldest female child isn't it?
- Ah yes, the good ol plant a diversion / divide and conquer strategy. Why do the Democrats always fall for this shit? John McCain is sure to win because A) We're so busy worrying about the words of someone NOT running for president. and B) Hillary Clinton supporters would rather vote for McCain out of spite than to vote for Obama if he gets the nomination and vice versa.
Pick up a copy of Sun Tzu's The Art of War Dummycrats! Duh! Get your heads out of your asses and wake the fuck up! However, I may be asking for too much. It's like watching a kid build a tower of blocks. No matter how many times you tell them they can't stack them that high, they keep doing it so you just sit and wait for the damn thing to collapse. If the Democrats lose the presidency this time, they only have themselves to blame.
- Poor Paula Abdul! Lawd have mercy! I think she may have an addiction to prescription drugs. If you noticed her performance on the video, "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow", she's hardly moving. It is a far cry from her "Straight Up" and "Forever Your Girl" days. I know she had some back problems, but how bad were they?
Hello MindSayers:
Define Dominionism:
Taking Ravager's advice about fighting Dominionist views, I have decided to start with this. If we don't have a proper definition in terms, then we don't know what we're talking about. So, first we need the proper definition, which we will cull from your answers (hopefully) and then we can have the discussion. At least that's the plan. ;)
So, to get things started, here is a definition of "Dominionism" from the Web, but in my opinion it is a faulty definition. Can you say why? Hint: read the last line, in bold letters.
"Dominionism is a trend in Protestant Christian evangelicalism and fundamentalism that encourages political participation in civic society by Christians explicitly in terms of their religious beliefs. It ranges from engagement in the political process to attempts to dominate or take over the political system. The term is primarily used by critics, and seldom used as a self-description. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominionism )"
Now for your thoughts. If you aren't sure how to proceed here, just refer to my last post for the Rules of Engagement in political discussion on my blog.
Thank you!

First of all, for those of you scratching your heads right now and saying "where was part 1?"... it was a few weeks ago, and wasn't titled as such, but this entry does directly relate, because it happened again today. I have great respect for this teacher, but I just don't think that political discussion belongs in his classroom. I don't have a problem with professors expressing their personal views in the classroom if they relate to the current description. For instance, if you're teaching history, political science, etc. I would almost expect a teacher to work some of their own thoughts into the material. It would be relevant to the conversation and would help the class, but this is Music Theory! I don't see how the current decay of our nation (from either point of view) relates to music. Today we spent about 30 minutes of our 50 minute class talking politics. Keep in mind that our final exam is only four days away. I'm not amused.
