I've heard it said that crack is the most addictive drug in the world. As a highly concentrated form of cocaine (also classified as exceedingly addictive) it can hook most people into dependence after just one dose. And yet, there are others who are foolish enough to try it but for some reason able to break free of it's icy grip.
Some have gone so far as to compare World of Warcraft to this dangerous substance based upon the number of people who become addicted to playing... The only difference between the crack survivors and my own experiences with Warcraft would be that I'm sure the crack people didn't stop because they thought "eh, it's not as great as everyone says".
World of Warcraft has sent the proverbial bearded man into the playground ("the first one is free!" he says) by offering a free download and ten days online play of their award winning MMORPG. Being bored as I am waiting to start working (see last posts) I flirted with danger and downloaded the game. I have been playing for 6 of those 10 days now and I remain un-addicted.
Now, this is where most people would break into a rant about how much they think the game sucks and how people who get addicted to it are losers and... well, you get the idea. Truth is, it's a good game. No joke. It's well designed, nice to look at and made so primarily solo and casual gamers can, over time, develop a good character and have what is woefully missing from most online games... fun. I even like my character, but I don't plan on actually paying to play the game. I've played many a MMORPG and I guess they just don't thrill me anymore.
These days I have been attracted to strategy games more than anything. For my DS I have Advance Wars, Age of Empires and I would like to get one of those "card battle" games. It's odd... I used to hate strategy, but now it's really all I want to play. I blame my last few weeks of college. One of the only things I did during that time was play Xiangqi with my RA.
Okay, I'm showing off. I never call it Xiangqi. I just say Chinese Chess, but I did play a lot of it with my RA and that started getting me into more strategy based games. I also plan on playing more traditional chess in the next couple of weeks as I found someone to play with. Apparently I'm a bizarre strategist, according to my old RA, and that's what makes me fun to play with. I took that as a compliment.
So I'm still waiting, but at least I'm making the most of it now. This coming week is important, as the rest of my paperwork will arrive, I'll get my visa, new contacts and most importantly, my CITY ASSIGNMENT! I'll finally know exactly where I'll be working. I still fly into Osaka, but that's just my port of entry. I've still got my fingers crossed for Shikoku or Okinawa. We'll just have to wait and see.
So in two weeks I start as a level 1 English teacher in alliance territor.... oh shit.

My crazy friend Joel is hosting some kind of tournament. fortunately he'll actually not be in it. Just hosting. Even I can't compare to him in most any games.of course two bigget games is Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Street Fighter 3 Third Strike. I'm working more on the street fighter, but I do have marvel I just need a good team and play real well with them. I know it sounds stupid and all, but it's something I wanna check out. I see so many videos of this stuff. But it's been years since I seen a tournament of fighitng games. Tekken 5 will be there. I'll try that too. Not sure if I want to enter to see. I'm okay at games I love them, but I'm more for fun. I never really actually remember how to do the stuff. I just do the movement that it gets me to do it, so really most of the time I don't know what the heck I'm doing. So I get beat down. I'm doing okay now but I don't know if I should bother. Alot of people don't think it has to do with planning and stragey. It's insane what most people can block, or continue to do a move forever and ever
Anyways, today I opened the store, lots of stuff. My boss took me to a habachi bar interesting. She was cuter than usual. lol ^_^;; we went to the comicbook store and picked her up comics I didn't buy anything, I'll just have to wait on it. But she was just happy the store didn't fall apart while she was gone. So basically leader ship abilities or whatever crap. So she took me out to dinner for it really. Got a good bit of my anime back but not entirely all of it yet @_@. Well I haven't slept too much so I'll probably play some more Stret fighter. My main characters I'm using or working with are Ryu and Chun Li. Night night.
Well pretty much my Nintendo Wii is not working properly. And actually now won't play ANY of my Wii games. I waited a bit because earlier when I first got it it did it to Marvel. Would freeze up or whatever. So I stopped playing the game and couple weeks later it was fine, play 5 to 6 hours on it. So when I bought Legend of Zelda, yeah that really killed the Wii games on the system. I probably played 4 hours of it. And that was it. So Legend of Zelda killed my system. It can turn on in everything and can update and all. But won't play any Wii, games. @_@ So that sucks. I'm finally calling them right now to tell them the bad news.
Oh and those who are still looking for one though. Taiwan (where they make the system and DS lites) had a recent Earthquake slowing down computer stuff and the internet over there. Plus North Amercia is out of DS lites so they have to slow down on Wii productions anyways to get more DS Lite's out as well. Nintendo doesn't have a bunch or manufacturing, they only have on big place on that Island. So Ds lites end of Janurary, and Nintendo Wii's come in weekly don't know what dates, they just come whenever they come. and still not enough to just walk in and buy one yet. Wait till Feburary, probably the mid or end of it. People should know that's how most videogame systems end up going now.
This is a great site to bookmark. Why? You can visit while you're waiting half an hour for customer service to resolve your inquiry. You can visit when you're bored. Actually, this is a great siter for early gamers. You know, those that remember Galaga, PacMan and Space Invaders ( www.excessively.net was one of the first two sites to offer classic Nintendo games online).
Why not use the site that's advertised on TV? Well, that's simple. They charge you to use these vintage games. Not at this site! You can play free online games as long as you want! No fees, no time limits, no upgrades. How great is that! So, I'll be killing some time trying to beat my highest scores at some of my favorite games! Have fun reminiscing....
