Perseverance @ MindSay

Go fish.
I've heard that fly fishermen debate the various techniques they use as if theirs was the One and Only way to truly catch a fish.

I've seen fishing methods that range from fish-tickling to net-hauling.

Some folks fish off a pier in solitude, others only with "the guys" on a yearly get-away from "the wives."

There's more than one way to fish.

Jesus told those whom he called to him that he would make them "fishers of men."  They were fishermen, these fellows.  Men who spent their lives casting nets and straining muscles to feed their families.  Men who got dirty, smelly, and put up with being "unclean until evening" as they did their work.  Fishing was not a pretty job.

Jesus' declaration of purpose, about making those who followed him to be fishers of men, was not made without the exigencies of the job in mind.  He knew -- and his people knew -- that when one went fishing, one needed to be prepared to work at it.

Now, it is well known that fishing is not without its off-days.  Some days, you catch fish. Some days, you don't. The bait will be the same, location the same, all the bets have been hedged and still, a fisherman can come home without a fin to his name.  It happens.  However, the persistant fisherman will not let that one bad day keep him from fishing.  He will return and try again, in the same place or elsewhere,   maybe with different bait, maybe with a different technique.  He will persevere.

The mark of the fisherman is that they keep going to the water. They keep trying. They persevere in their vocation.

If you are a Christian, you are called to be a fisherman.  It's not always a pretty job, it can be a lot of work, and sometimes your bucket is empty at the end of the day.  That's okay. You won't always have a bucketful of fish.  You're not required to be a great success.

Just keep going back, to a pier or your boat, with a net or a rod and reel.  You have been called to be a fisher of men.  So, go fish.

Something My Daughter Shared with me today!

My daughter sent this to me, one of those e-mail messages you're supposed to pass on so that 10 of your friends will be blessed. And while pondering that I thought it would be nice to post this for all here at MindSay too, hey why not - It's good to pass the blessings around.

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. The road to
success is not straight. There is a curve called Failure, a loop called
Confusion, speed bumps called Friends, red lights called Enemies,
caution lights called Family. You will have flats called Jobs. But, if
you have a spare called Determination, an engine called Perseverance,
insurance called Faith, a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a
place called Success. Pass it on to ten people whom you want to see
blessed. Don't forget to send it back to the one who sent it to you.

In Joy, Enjoy! ;)

LIFE ROLLS ON . . .

The difference between history's boldest accomplishments and its most staggering failures is often, simply, the diligent will to PERSEVERE.

A little story of life!
There was a man who had four sons. He sent them, in turn, on a quest, to go and look at a pear tree that was at a great distance away. The first son went in the winter, the second went in spring, the third went in summer and the youngest son went in the fall. When they all came back, their father called them together and asked each one to describe what they had seen. The first stated that the tree was ugly, bent and twisted. The second refuted his brother's comments and said it was covered with green buds and full of promise. The third disagreed and stated that it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful. It was the most graceful thing he had ever seen. The last son disagreed with all and said it was ripe and dropping with fruit full of life and fulfillment. The man then explained that all were correct because they had each perceived the tree during one season in life of the tree. The moral of the story is not to let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest. Not to judge life by one difficult season and to persevere through the difficult patches for better times are sure to come.

Today:

Hello there God… dawn here. I am having a painful day today…trying to do too much I suppose, but it’s been 4 ½ months now since the surgery and I am tired of going so slow. Is there a finish line? Is there one in sight?

My vision is limited today…I am nearsighted and if You could just enhance my gaze to see the goal, to see that it’s there, waiting for me to grasp as long as I don’t quit, I would really appreciate that today Lord. Thank you. Thank you that as I experience painful days, disappointing days and days that I have to concentrate literally on putting one foot in front of the other, I also experience breakthrough!

Please bless my son today on his birthday. Open his heart to hear You thru the crowded din in his mind. I pray that you clear a bold pathway all around him where he can only turn to YOU.  I am sad that they returned the card I sent him for his birthday. Let him know and feel my love for him today as well.

Ahh…my hubby. Lord Jesus I love that man, and I know You love him all the more.  I ask that you protect him, guide him in safe travels as he drives and I ask that You also show him Your immeasurable love today.

I bless my employee with good health and peace of mind today as she approaches life changing decisions for her mother’s healthcare. More energy and a clear presence of mind. Thank You God.
