Milk: Men Kissing Men For Academy Awards
Harvey Milk as played by Sean Penn in Gus Van Sants Milk Milk is a Hollywood feature film directed by Gus Van Sant that stars Sean Penn, James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Diego Luna and Josh Brolin.

Harvey Milk was a Gay Rights activist in 1970's San Francisco.  Just one year after winning a post as City Supervisor (the first openly gay politician ever to be elected to public office in the United States) Harvey ran into some serious trouble with another councilor who ran for the same post on Family Values ticket. Josh Brolin does a good job as the old fashioned thinker, Dan White, but Sean Penn could win an Academy Award for his portrayal of Harvey Milk.

Directed by Gus Van Sant, the biopic must have been helped along by the success of The Life and Times of Harvey Milk, an Academy Award winning documentary on the same subject.

Milk the movie starring Sean Penn as Gay Rights activist Harvey MilkStraight guys, be warned... about four minutes into the film there's a love scene that's hard for heterosexual men to watch, and if you do go see this movie in the theatre I would sit up front and turn around to look at the crowd during this two minute scene (trust me you'll know the one when it arrives) man, I bet every guy in the room is looking at his shoes.

But after those painful moments you soon forget Sean Penn is playing Harvey Milk, and the character really comes alive... You root for him in the political rallies, feel sorry for him at funerals, and really come to celebrate and rejoice in his struggle.

All that being said, I'm pretty sure MILK isn't something you'll rent to watch with the guys.

I have some official SWAG from the moviethat I'm selling online. Here's a link to a Milk movie hat and tshirt on eBay.

Dolla Dolla Bills Ya'll For the For the Kids ya'll

I participated in Penn State's THON this semester. It was actually this weekend. And it was one of the best weekends of my life.

Penn State raised 6.6 million dollars for kids with cancer. We help them finicially through the Four Diamonds Fund, which is apart of Hershey Medical Center. I'm amazed that our school could raise that much money from October when the first canning trip was held to February.

Its weird to think about now, on one of my canning trips home, I learned that Morgan, a girl who I went to high school with was a Four Diamonds Child. She had cancer, which I was oblivious to and I didn't know she was apart of this program either. Now after her death, I've learned more about the Four Diamonds and realized her connection to it. Its hard because I was never really close to Morgan, although I knew of her and we were in the same clubs and stuff. It bothers me to know to this day that I could have learned from her, and now she's gone.

The theme of THON was "Hope Finds A Way"

Maybe one day it will.

Penn State

If anyone can believe it, I might actually consider Penn State as one of my college choices..

It kind of started because this week I was in State college. I had one of my rotary meetings to see the other rebounds (thats what they call all the exchange students who have returned from their years abroad) and I just decided I'd go because my parents were going to a wedding with my sisters. So I went and stayed with Laura. It was a load of fun. And this is the new reason why I'm actually considering Penn State. My friends Sam, Torey, and of course Danny are going there. We all had to make speaks about our exchange years and Danny and Torey made me want to cry. Torey was just explaining how it is in Brazil and how close he got to all of his friends. It just mnakes me cry thinking about it.

Afterwards Laura and I got togehter with Rachel, Anna, Sam and Danny. It was fun. I had the best time talking about my year with all of them. Anna was like Katie are you still that young innocent girl that we sent to Poland? And my answer: NO. I'm not the same person I was a year ago. I cared more about boyfriends and having one then I did about anything else. Now it doesn't matter. Sure it'd be nice to have one, but yeah know what, it doesn't matter and of course I will always have my friends. Danny and Sam were the best. Rachel did something to her car so Danny and Sam jumped under the car and fixed what happened with duck tape at first. Sam said we should probably use wire so he said "Do you girls have wire under your bras that we can have?" Of course we all said yes, adn I was like trying to figure out if we needed it how to get my wire out from my bra and he said " Are you serious? Is there really wire under your bras? Is it one piece or two." Then I had to figure that out.. Then at Danny's we started watching American Beauty and it was fun and I got a massage from Sam! :) I love exchange students, we get along so well!

Am I back? Who knows.

Originally, I had planned to give up on the Blog thing entirely. It might have changed. At some point I'll probably make a real effort to start updating these things. So what's been going on? Well, here's the skinny because I don't plan on posting much right now. First of all, I've been laid-off. Great fun. Had the job for nearly two years and now nothing. Trying to find work and start my own business at the same time. Exciting, eh? Yeah, not at all.

Right now I'm at the Atheist Alliance International conference in Los Angeles right now doing work. Not too bad. Julie Sweeny is here again, as is a lot of prominent scientists and speakers that wouldn't ring anyone's bell unless they were in the know, and Penn and Teller are here. Very sweet and I'm taking pictures every now and then.

Speaking of pictures, I took some of the Caffeine Tour that we went to a few weekends ago. They can be found here. They're pretty sweet and I'm seriously loving my digital camera. So many features and so functional. Thankfully, I think that'll make updating this thing a little better if I start a photo journal or something. What do you guys think?
