kvetch kvetch kvetch

We’ve had maybe one sunny day out of the last ten, all the others bring rain- very atmospheric and romantic at first- but it wears on one quickly, especially because every time my husband walks in and out of the house he tracks pine needles and leaves and dirt and of course being the prince that he is he can’t remove his shoes and trust me when I say a quick wipe on a floor rug  DOES NOT clean the shoes. So I have spent a small fortune on rugs in front of every door in this house and we have seven doors to the outside in this house not counting the doors into the basement and or garage. I could just give up on it and replace the beige (who would put beige down in a pacific northwest house?) every other year when it becomes impossibly filthy. But I would probably install hardwood floors instead and maybe that will be worth it because I am not going to spend the rest of my life nagging or stewing inside with high blood pressure. And I am not exactly enamored of the cat right now because after emptying and disinfecting four litter boxes she goes and tears one of the garbage bags and I end up with litter all over the rug in the den near the door where we keep the trash and compost along the side of the house. She has so many fucking boxes because I am a total sap and she likes to defecate in one and urinate in the other and being fastidious myself how can I deny her a similar privilege. It’s rather uncanny how similar we are: she has selective hearing, whines when she doesn’t get her way, sucks up royally when she wants something. Can be adorable or pissy and annoying. She has food allergies, wants to know everything that’s happening in the house, enjoys sleep and snores softly. People say we get pets that match us, I certainly did.

And the firewood situation is annoying. I bought this product called Jumbo firewood logs, they are all wood but essentially are sawdust highly compressed- but not with wax. So two days ago I ask jim to bring in four bundles before the rain gets really bad, which he does, but he neglects to cover the woodpile and half of a cord of these logs have now dissolved into a heap. Great mulch right? I don’t need mulch now --- I need firewood. And in case there is anything else to annoy me I hope it happens within the next 15 minutes so I can start feeling calm without taken a foreign substance.

So what’s good? Jim’s closet will be great, and I blacked out the windows where our nenw neighbors feel the irrational need to have mega watt lights on in their backyard all night shining into our bedroom. I will have a talk with them and then buy a BB gun if that doesn’t work. And I will build a small stone wall blocking off the areas in front of my house because they use them as permanent parking places because their SOB of a contractor gave them a garage that maybe a small car would fit in if you were willing to climb over the back seats and exit through the trunk. And they have no space in front of the house so of course they use MY house and block the path from my front door to the street and my guests have to park around the block. If need be I will plant a row of trees to keep the cars away.  See even when I try to think what is good I end up whining. The frangipani tarts at Grand Central Bakery are great. and I ate two of them so I ought to know. Oy… serenity now as Frank Costanza would shout. Helen Mirren in Prime Suspect was sublime last night. I will re-watch the other six series. Kvetching is indulgent and I am getting sick of myself.
