Aftermath of a Dilly Bar
I just received a picture from my friend Tom, of his 2.5 year old son, Lewie.

Lewie has been featured several times on my blog in the photo contest. I'm afraid I am going to have to nominate him yet again.
Take a look at this:

Tom included the caption "Aftermath of a Dilly Bar" and that really sums it up.
As cute as this is, I think the stick in the hair is really what sells it. Kind of makes you yearn from summer, doesn't it?
O.A.R.
I know, I know, you're all dying to hear about Portland. Well, sorry, just another day.

I have to first blog about my 2nd trip to the State Fair and the O.A.R. concert. My friends Justin, Tom, Mindy, and I got tickets to see them perform at the fair. I had been looking forward to this all summer. And then it turned out to be the night before my trip to Portland.
Justin and I headed out to the fair early to hang out and eat. We both got the day off of work. Tom and Mindy had to work so they didn't get there until about 7pm.

Justin really, really liked this car.
After Tom and Mindy arrived, we sat in the beer garden drinking for a while. The show started at 6:30 pm but the sign said that O.A.R. wasn't going on until 9:15 pm. We figured we could hang out until 8:45 pm and still be inside in plenty of time, but not have to see much of the TWO opening acts that I have never heard of. Well, that all worked fine until we showed up at the gate at 8:45 and we could hear O.A.R. singing! We thought (hoped!) it was a recording but no....they started 30 minutes early!!!! Can you believe that? When is the last time you were at a concert that started ON TIME, much less early?
We only missed the first song (we asked a stranger) so it shouldn't have been that big a deal. Except that the first song they sang was called "Hey Girl" and it is Justin's favorite!!!! And of the four of us, he is by far the biggest fan. And the only other time he's seen them (last year at River Rocks) they didn't play it at all. He was bummed and rightfully so. Beyond that, the concert was great. I thought. It was a perfect night for it and outdoors, drinking beer, listening to a band you like? What could be better?

Obviously Tom and Mindy didn't quite agree...at one point I glanced around and saw them simultaneously texting. Funny.

Justin and I are having fun though.

And later, Mindy and I were having a great time while the boys got us more beer.

This is the best shot I have of the actual band.
After the show, they had a fireworks display. I was just about to take a picture of the fireworks when I noticed this:

That is Tom and Mindy and I don't know what she is pointing out, but could that be a cuter picture? I officially would like to nominate it here as a photo contest entry.
And lastly, we ended the day by being the last three riders of the giant slide.

Tom is in the lead, then Mindy and I am last (in black). Justin wouldn't go because I had already made him go earlier that day (yep, I went twice in one day and three times this fair season. Never once did I bring a small child). At least Justin got a picture of this for me. And we were the last riders of the day sp we had it all to ourselves. It was great. Tom likes the slide almost as much as I do and Mindy had never been on it. So this was great for us all.
Then, I was off to home so I could pack my stuff and sleep fast for my early morning flight to Portland.......
....COMING SOON!!!!
Photo-licious
Remember that photo contest?
Well, I have a couple new entries I am submitting.
Dylan, after his bath, somehow got outside and, still covered in bubbles? The bubbles, the location and that look on his face make this one a winner.
Dylan is sitting in the water feature of a garden. I know that he's nekkid under all that dirty water, but tell me, doesn't he LOOK like he's chilling in a hot tub that's just his size? And obviously loving it.
This one's Dylan again (3 in a row!!!) on the right. And that's his Daddy, Jason, on the left. I love the matching poses as they both stare out at the view. This one just melts me.
Christian. Wow. This was a portrait his mommy had done for his daddy for a father's day gift. She sent it to me in sepia and I colored in the eyes (actually just took the sepia out and left his eyes in color...they're really that color). But this goes in for the sweetness of it. All the more so if you knew this boy who NEVER stops moving. This is as serene as he will ever be.
This is Lewie, the boy from the photo that started this whole contest. His face and pose are what really sell it here. Who thinks deep thoughts at 2? And this without seeing his adorable dimples......
And this is Lewie's mommy and the first adult to make a solo entry. (All the others have featured a child somewhere). I nominate this because it is an awesome girl-power photo. And because I have always wanted to shoot a gun. (A handgun, not like a shotgun or rifle or whatever, but a real honest-to-goodness gun like from a movie. EXACTLY like she is doing here.) I love that she looks strong and confident with a deadly gun in her hand (live rounds, btw...no blanks) and then if you look to the background, you see a lovely green field. The contradictions just tickle me.
And there you go. Quick catch up on cute pictures for the photo contest. Tomorrow I am off to see the O.A.R. concert at the MN State Fair and then Thursday morning I am off to Portland, Baby!!!

Fourth of July - 2009 Edition
Happy Fourth of July!!!
In honor of this most esteemed holiday (eh-) I would like to share a picture with you of my little Independence Day mascot.
Presenting, in all his Red, White and Blue glory......Christian!
Technically, this was taken several days ago, but with the USA on his shirt; in the proper colors (except for the purple ball, but hey--that's my favorite color!), and the absolute joy in his expression, he is my Independence mascot.
Truly, there is no way that laughing little face didn't make you smile.
Happy 4th!

So Very Sleepy
I am officially nominating this. I stole it off of kjhump's blog (but she won't mind). The look on little Christian's face it just priceless. He wants so badly to go to sleep but Mommy and Daddy are trying to change his sleep schedule. Poor little guy. I read that he's adjusting okay, though.
