Paul Mccartney @ MindSay
#5 - Paul McCartney - @ Philips Arena, Atlanta, Georgia, September 2005, Chaos & Creation in the Backyard Tour. I only have this in the Top 5 because there if you are a Beatles/McCartney fan, then you are a fan of extremely successful music. And there is absolutely nothing like going to see some of the best and most successful music ever written performed LIVE by a guy who pretty much was at the head of every bit of it. Why #5? Seats were TERRIBLE. Of course, I will never tell my Uncle this. He was EXTREMELY gracious in giving us tickets, seeing as how it was extremely EXPENSIVE. Very very very sweet of him, and it was not his fault whatsoever! BUT, it does not top this list because the seats were very poor, and the sound was not so great. Whoever designed the upper middle section of the Philips arena has their head somewhere other than their shoulders. The bottom of the Top section overlaps the top of the Middle. Being in the top of the middle, there's this overhang... a roof... over your head, which blocks the giant speakers hanging at the very top of the ceiling of the arena, giving you no-good sound. I also had to lean forward to see the entire stage (which (the stage) was extremely impressive), but I just couldn't find myself enjoying a PAUL MCCARTNEY concert as much as I should have, being a Beatles and McCartney fan.
#4 - "Weird Al" Yankovich - @ The Peace Center, Greenville, SC, Spring '99, Running With Scissors Tour. This concert would be in Top 3 if it weren't for some special circumstances within the other 3 concerts. But "Weird Al" is one of the best live performers I think I've ever seen. He is absolutely INCREDIBLE. Why is it incredible? Here are the top 3 reasons, according to commntyblackman, why his shows are incredible, and YOU need to go to them:
3) The humor in his material is kept, and even multiplied tenfold, live.
2) The costumes! Oh my God, the costumes!
1) The audience interactivity. He keeps the audience alive by involving them in the songs, and definitely keeps your blood flowing.
If you ever have a chance to go see him live, PLEASE DO. I saw him when I was freshly 12 and had one of the best times of my life, and I still am quite pleased that I saw him. If he ever comes here again, I will DEFINITELY be seeing him again. Oh, and he did a meet and greet outside after the show. He set up a table and welcomed autographs and handshakes. One of the nicest guys I've ever met.
#3 - The Hampton Grease Band - @ The Variety Playhouse, Atlanta, Georgia, June 2, 2006. This concert will always fluctuate between the 3 Top spots. The Hampton Grease Band is a 60's band that became very popular in Atlanta as a local band. They have played with the Allman Brothers and even The Grateful Dead, along with other topnotch acts. They were known for their crazy antics onstage. Bruce Hampton is legendary for once bringing a chainsaw onstage and sawing a treestump during a show. This got the attention of Columbia Records, and Columbia signed them. They released a double album called Music To Eat, and legend has it that Music To Eat was the second-lowest selling album in Columbia HISTORY, second ONLY to a Yoga Instructional Record. They then became recognized by Frank Zappa and were signed to his label. But soon after, they broke up, never to release another Grease Band album ever again. The lead guitarrist (Glenn Philips) and lead singer (Bruce Hampton) went on to record their own stuff, most notably Bruce Hampton's work with Aquarium Rescue Unit and Glenn Philips' solo work. They had not played a gig in 33 years, when suddenly they decided that maybe they would.
We were currently at an Atlanta Braves game that got rained out when we got word from my Uncle that there was a band playing "Ham...Ham...Ham Band something...Parks, you know the band... Ham" My Dad (Parks): "HAMPTON GREASE BAND?!?!?!?!? THEY'RE PLAYING??!?!?!?!"
It was soon after that we were all crowded into the car and rushed over to The Variety Playhouse. I went up to the front of the stage, literally about 6 feet from Glenn Philips, and watched in awe. I have always loved this band, and I could not believe that I was seeing a bunch of old farts sing hits like "Hendon," from a 2nd-lowest selling album in a record label's history, with lyrics such as: "SPRAYPAINT! Keep away from flame AHHHHH!!!!!! Avoid breathing of vapors... Contents under pressure AHAHHHHHHH!!!!" This was truly, no lie, (I am not telling you an untruth here) the ONLY time that Hampton Grease Band would ever be playing again. A once in FOREVER event. Will they ever play again? No, and that's 1/4th the reason why this is #3. The other 3/4s was the music. Yes. The music. INCREDIBLE. Glenn Philips is probably one of the best guitarrists in the world.
#2, Tied with #1... these next two will CONSTANTLY change depending on my mood - Eric Clapton - Bi-Lo Center, Greenville, SC, June 2004, Me and Mr. Johnson Tour
Honestly, I cannot remember much of anything about this concert except for two things: how great EVERY SINGLE SONG was, and the guitar solo in I Shot The Sheriff. This guitar solo went beyond ANY Hendrix I've ever heard. Holy CRAP. All I can really say is if you get the chance to see Clapton... do it. And try not to weep at the beautiful sounds of his guitar.
#1 - MuteMath - The Handlebar, Greenville, SC, October 25, 2006, Fall Album Release Tour - This is pretty noteworthy. A fairly underground band, JUST released their first album... playing gigs of a few hundred people, and they take the #1 spot. I've already said everything there is to say about how incredibly energetic, uplifting, exhausting, extreme, and fun their shows are. From Paul's stage antics, to Greg's Alien-worthy guitar effects during Break The Same, to Roy-Mitchell's fretless bass riff in Stare At The Sun, to Darren's EXTREME drum playing during the ENTIRE show, it just does not get better than this. Prepare to be physically harmed if you are up front at a MuteMath show. It is most likely unintentional, and all in good fun. At least if you bleed, you might get some free stuff.
I challenge all of YOU to tell me YOUR 5 Best Concerts ever. Or even your 5 WORST concerts. Or both! Reply here telling me, or just post it as an entry in your blog!
I hope this extra hour is still refreshing you guys,
Have a wonderful night,
-Alex
Did you know that in the original recording of "Vega-Tables" by The Beach Boys, Paul McCartney made a guest appearance?
He's the one chomping on a carrot in the background!
During a radio contest where the DJ's asked the audience "On what one Beach Boys song can you hear Paul eating a carrot?" nobody could answer the question. After many many failed attempts by callers, Paul McCartney ended up calling in himself to answer the question!

Maybe I'll start posting some musical facts on here that I find interesting :).
I have a few votes, but I need many more!
Deadline is 10:00 PM EST on Saturday night!
Keep voting, and spread the word around so I can get even more votes!
On Monday, October 3rd from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Paul McCartney will appear at Barnes & Noble in Rockefeller Center at 600 Fifth Ave. in New York City to sign copies of his first children's book, "High in the Clouds", based on the short film "Tropic Island Hum".
This can't have come at a worse time. There is no possible way for me to take off to stand on line from Sunday aftenoon till 3 p.m. Monday. None.
To make the situation worse, my two friends T&C, are flying in from Seattle just for this (and will attempt to get tickets to see Macca at MSG the 4th and 5th). It's been 12 years since we first met in London (at a Paul show of course)...
What's so bad about this? Well, Monday night begins the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashana. The holiday ends Wednesday night, which means I won't be able to see them until Thursday night at the earliest (remember, that work thing again).
Here's to hoping that they can stay till Friday...

Basically, it was absolutely FANTASTIC.
He had some hidden gems that surprised me, too.
Most of 'em were Beatles songs.
The two most surprising ones were Eleanor Rigby and Please Please Me.
But man oh man was the show good.
The pyrotechnics on Live And Let Die were AMAZING
Back In The U.S.S.R. was FANTASTIC.
Man...haha...not I get to brag about having gone to a McCartney concert, in what could POSSIBLY be his last tour. I mean, at his age, any tour could be his last.
So today was awesome.
Earlier we went to Target, and I picked up two CD's.
Bob Dylan: No Direction Home - A Soundtrack To The Film by Martin Scorcese
Dane Cook - Retaliation
I think Dane Cook is one of the funniest men on the entire planet.
Didn't get a McCartney t-shirt. $35 a tee and I wanted to conserve what money I have left. Not to mention I just didn't want to leave my seat! It was just that good!
::Sigh::
I love Jenni. I wish I could have brought her with me. <3
Much love and God bless,
