"You should meditate more often."
I m really good at convincing myself that I like something that I actually don t like. This is good in the short run because I can decide that I m not unhappy with a current situation. However, this is horrible in the long run because I have no idea what I actually like.

The Paradox of Our Age

The Paradox of Our Age

by By Dr. Bob Moorehead (corrected)

We have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints.

We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less.

We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time.

We have more degrees, but less common sense; more knowledge, but  less judgment; more experts, but more problems; more medicine, but less wellness.

We spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too seldom, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.

We talk too much, love too seldom and lie too often.

We've learned how to make a living, but not a life; we've added years to life, not life to years.

We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor.

We've conquered outer space, but not inner space; we've done larger  things, but not better things; we've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul; we've split the atom, but not our prejudice; we write more, but learn less; plan more, but accomplish less.

We've learned to rush, but not to wait; we have higher incomes, but lower morals; more food but less appeasement; more acquaintances, but fewer friends; more effort but less success.

We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but have less communication; we've become long on quantity, but short on quality.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; tall men and short character; steep profits and shallow relationships.

These are days of two incomes, but more divorce; of fancier houses, but broken homes.

These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one-night stands, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.

It is a time when there is much in the show window, and nothing in the stockroom.

If ignorance is bliss, why aren't more people happy?

A Paradox (Life)
I feel that my life is a paradox right now... I'm sure that's not surprising to most, if not all of you, as a matter of fact I'd be willing to bet that many of you feel the same way about your own lives.  Let me be a little more specific, though...

It's not going to surprise anybody here to hear me say that I've got a lot going on in my life right now.  If you've read even one entry on this page before tonight, you've probably heard me complain about how busy I am and how I never have any time to do anything, especially blog.  I'm such a whiner.  It's interesting though, because I find my time filled with lots of very different things.  Some of those things I love... a lot of my music stuff, spending time with (certain) people, etc.  Others I simply can't stand... this would include a lot of my stuff for school and so on.  To an extent, many of the things I'm involved in fall into both categories, because so much of what I do in my life is intertwined.

Ok, ok, so admittedly, that's not really much of a paradox.  Again, most people would probably say that they enjoy some aspects of their daily life more than others.  Here's where the paradox comes in: because of this, I find myself alternately loving and hating my life as it currently stands.  Maybe this is common, but I can't remember many times when I've felt this way in my own life before.  I can literally be completely happy with everything about my life one minute, and then absolutely down about it all the next.  Granted, there are a few things that always make me happy (don't think too hard), and the opposite is also true, but in general, I have become prone to very sudden changes of opinion.

Is that a bad thing?

Thoughts on Today

Today was super insane.  It was the first time we ran through the pregame. And somehow, I marked every single pinwheel the wrong direction.  My squad was all over the place and probably hates me now.  But I thought it was pretty funny. And we actually got it down by the end of the period. Also, I got very sweaty in band today.

In AP Bio, Mrs Mortel let out her ferrett! It reminded me of McDuff..haha... And now I really want a pet ferret.

Also, today was the day senoirs chose top 10 for homecoming. Now I will rant.

I continue to be astonished that the school actually sponsors and promotes the biggest popularity contest in the history of everything.  Wasn't the objective of school to uhh...learn to think? So much for that... Despite all the work the school does to condemn discrimination, bullying, racism, and promote individuality and freethinking, it is all blown away by this contradiction.  Contradictions cannot exist.  Those who harbor them will be destroyed either internally or by losing all credibility whatsoever.  Alas, high schools have been doing it for ages.

I cannot believe that the school allows two people to be selected as the King and Queen of the school. I cannot believe that they hold them up and say "there she/he is, your ideal" based on popularity.

Wouldn't it make more sense for a panel of teachers to pick a panel of "ideal worthy people" and let the students select from that?

This was precicely the fear many of the founding fathers had when debating the constitution. Those who were in favor of a republic were due to the stupidity of the masses. And rightly so.

And yes, part of me is a little jealous. Doesn't everyone crave acceptance and to be loved? Of course. Doesn't everyone want to be liked by one's peers? Naturally.

But then I remember who many of my peers are...and most of the jealousy goes away....

Alas, the paradox of High School.
