Palm @ MindSay
Palm Sunday today, which means no sunday school. Well, not formal Sunday School, but a sort-of waiting in the basment to see which kids grow too antsy during the service and have to come downstairs. Which was none. But the other teacher and I decorated cupcakes for the coffee afterwards, and popped in to watch what was happening upstairs on the video monitor. It was nice to talk to the other teacher without the kids around; a pleasant reminder of what people can be in elements other than those in which you are familiar with them. In other words, once in a while it's nice to carry on a conversation about life goals rather than watch him break up fights between sets of brothers.
I also has an interesting conversation with a lady at my church, about student exchanges in general. She's really involved with the NuVision Rwanda missions, and was getting all teared up. Among other things, she said that there are only 2% of people willing to embark on student exchanges. That statistic really surprises me. I am not quite sure why. Voyaging entirely out of one's element is a difficult thing to do, but a healthy thing and a powerful learning experience, I don't see why 98% would be deterred . . .
You'll have to excuse my ramblings. I've been sending out Rotary emails all afternoon. Well, not all afternoon, but a fair chunk of it. I'd best get back to english. I don't understand why Hamlet is considered Shakespeare's greatest work; I think he's done much better. I find Hamlet rather dreary, and implausible. But then, I'm conditioned to our North American happy endings. I'd much rather believe in an innate goodness in human nature . . .
I'm an optimist, what can I say.
First, I got my certificate four, they look quite good. I got mine reprinted because there was a black streak across the certificate that wasn't supposed to be there.

I'm getting an HP palm pilot. So good! It's going to beĀ a part Christmas preasent from mum and dad. But I'll have to pay for mostly all of it because it's sooo expensive. I can't remember the model right away but I'll put it on the blog when I get the details from home. Since I'm looking for a mobile phone and an HP palm pilot, I might as well get them all combined. Save a lot of space.
The main things it has on it: Windows, Camera, Mobile, (possible MP# player, not too sure), USB, Bluetooth and Bluechip.
They're the main features. I'm getting it for a good deal because it's on sale for a month, with cash back. Plus because the supermarket I'm working at has discount at that place I'll save another $40, that 5% is actually worth something when it's for an expensive electronic. So that's cool.
Anyhow, I'm in the edit swete for Small Press. Yes, I accidently jammed the printer, but hey it was fixable. I'm almost finished my Historical Re-enactment article. Well, I am, but I want to get a couple of people to edit it first before I hand it in. The Small Press book is going to printing in two weeks. I'm cutting fine way past the deadline.
Okay, gotta go, I'm sure someone else has booked this print room.
Cya.
The palm trees on my blog remind me of places I have lived. California, New Orleans, Gulfport and Biloxi Mississippi.
Watching the news brought back memories of hurricanes I had gone through in the 25 years I lived in the south. I was in California for 2 years when Camille hit in 1969, so I didn't see that damage except on TV. There's a boat that washed ashore that they turned into a souvenir store to remind you of Camille and there are some foundations of houses that were never rebuilt on Hwy. 90.
Elaina with 125 mile an hour winds did no damage to my house in Biloxi. We had some trees limbs that came down in the neighborhood and some metal sheds that flew around but nothing like what I'm seeing on TV with Katrina.
A friend of mine predicted that a hurricane would come through and destroy the casinos on the Gulf Coast. His dad owns a beautiful home right on Hwy 90 and I'm wondering if it is still standing.
I have family and friends on the coast but I haven't heard from anyone yet. Power may not be restored for weeks. Please, pray for the people in the path of the hurricane as they try to get their lives back together.
Last week, we had a flood in my town in Kansas and I felt sorry for the people in an apartment building who had lostĀ furniture and cars. That was nothing compared to what the people on the coast are going through. At least, everything around them here in Kansas was in tack and they could go shopping and go to dry land close by. The people on the coast are looking at ruined homes and businesses. They may not have jobs to go to.
