sod and an irrigation system. (major eye roll) in a rain forest with a wealth of wonderful plants, groundcovers, vines and shrubs... everyone has different tastes.  and i should stop reducing people who dont share my tastes in environments or politics to a  cultural stereotype. wasps, republicans money grass golf and more vehicles than people.  My next car will be a hybrid and I actually take the bus downtown. and we are removing concrete to help avoid run off during the rainy season.   jim bought his saw and he thinks the new oven cabonet will be done within a week. I would like to have it for pesach but I imagine I will come up with smaller projects for him to change directions. la donna mobile.

Life with out electrcity!!!

Oh my Good Gods!  I am back from the land of no electrcity!  Four freaking days of no lights, no furnace, no water, and having to actually keep the kids busy besides their normal day to day activities.  The last part was going to be an ordeal with electrcity since the kids were on Holiday break!

Yes folks, my part of OK got hit with that ice storm and these idiots down here are just about idiotic when it comes to snow and ice!  Took them 4 freaking days to get lights back on!  Which was pure tortue for us because we are only 2 and half miles from town and could see all the pretty twinkling lights from our house!

Don't get me wrong any state that got hit with the ice storm had or still does have areas with out power, but my county the idiots new the storm was coming and actually made sure they had equipment, parts, and wire to fix problems.  But what they failed to do is to actually call in back up crews.  They said it over the radio the second day of no lights that they figured why call the crews in if the storm missed us!   I am use to being up north where if you have that big of a storm come through that you not only get equipment ready to go but you put your crews and contractors on alert for these types of situations!

Talked to my sister up in NE and an hour away from them got hit with the storm and they had no lights.  But get this they had power up to all sections but the most rural of areas with in 2 days!  Just boggles my mind!

We survived.  We couldn't use the oven because the oven had electric ignition but we were able to keep our living room and kitchen nice and cozy with the stove top.  Eelctric ignition was easier to get around with lighters on top then bottom!  Hubby and I melted snow to keep the toliets flushed.  And opened up all the cold water spicits to let the pressure off of the lines so we wouldn't have busted pipes.  When we told our landlords and anyone who asked us they had no clue they should have done that.  Luckily the landlord had a generatior to keep his house powered up (minus the well) but his daughter and dipshit son in law didn't!  Life's a bitch for them now!  The daughter's house has burst pipes and the other daughter and her hubby have the same thing!  So we still don't have water because landlord is going to set the well up to just come to our houses' but not his daughter's till they get the pipes fixed.

And we only had to go get ice one day and move the food into coolers.  Thank gods hubby bought a small inverter.  I was able to fire up the laptop off and on and check emails for my job.  Started nest calls this week but I still dont' hae my work comp nor did I have electrciity today.  I called in today and said I can start tomorrow.  I am busy cleaning up my house and heating it back up from 4 days of no power.  I can't start dishes or laundry till the well gets routed to our house later tonight.  Kids are happy because we monitor their tv intake as is but it about killed them no comp time no tv time at all for the last 4 days.  But we taught them how to play Yatzee........they like it but they are still learning how to pick the right number combos for the highest score.  We played the game Life many times and the kids keep whopping our asses on it.  Sorry and Battleship the kids played by themselves.  Taught the boy how to play sudooko and started teaching the girl how to play harder sudooko games.

I think we also got a new resident in our house which I am not to happy about.  A mouse.  Usually I don't have any problems in the winter with mice due to 3 cats but with this storm I think it drove one inside finally.  And I think it is under my fridge no less.  The cats take turns laying in front of hte fridge and eyeballing underneith of it.  I haven't seen or heard any signs of life anywhere.  But if you were a mouse taken refuge in a house full of cats would you scurry all over the place?  So I am going to place some poision underneith the fridge and a couple of other key places and see what turns up.  All I have to say is it better be a mouse and not a snake that decieded to go to warmer ground!

We went to the YMCA to shower.  Couldn't New Year's Eve or Day but spit baths are wonderful things:D  The kids actually had a grand time with no lights and I showed them how to make bite size pizzas in a skillet vs an oven so they thought that was fun.

Anyway I am back.  Just taking a break from cleaning up what I can with out water.  I will do a few more posts later:D

Fish tank help!

I'm at home, and it's fun. I took an extra part of the week off. I'm pretty excited. I was going to go to the basketball game last night, but I didn't make it in time... turns out Atlantic is a lot farther from Iowa City than I had previously thought lol. Oh well. We lost hard core, so that stunk, but oh well again. I signed the lease to the apartment yesterday, and dished out a quite painful check lol. It was exciting though. I can't wait to move in next year, it will be so fun. Decorating is one of the funnest things ever. I can't wait.

At any rate, I've been filling out scholarships, and I've actually filled out quite a few, so I'll be really disspointed if I don't get any. Umm, I think I'm going to make some brownies or something, b/c I can! I have an oven here, and it's so exciting. I love ovens. I also made some pizza, and it was really good. Way better than Burge could ever hope to be lol. Aight, that's about all I've got, talk to y'all later!

P.S. if anyone who knows a lot about fish and fish tanks could help me out, that would be great, cuz I'm having a bit of a problem with mine. See I have a 40 gallon tank with 2 goldfish type things, and 2 of those algae eaters, and I have a 40-60 gallon tank filter/cleaner, but yet there is still a whole bunch of scum on the walls and around the plants, which doesn't make sense to me, because I just cleaned it (quite thoroughly) about 2 weeks ago. I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas to why this may be happening, or what I could possible do about it so that I don't have to clean the whole dang thing out ever couple of weeks. Thanks!

Near death experiences, you've gotta love them

Well It's been an interesting morning. Our oven exploded while I was trying t light the stove....scared the living shit out of me. It was a big enough boom to shake the house and move the stove about 10 cm away from the wall, maybe more. The oven has fallen through into the grill, and there was fire everywhere, I had to put the stove top back together again....not to mention I still had hair on my face. I'm still a little shacken up about it. If it'd been left any longer I don't think we'd have a kitchen left. Well I know how to make an affective bomb now!!! :|

Got my mid year report yesterday. I did really well, both mum and dad were very proud. I did very well for the amount of time I've had off school, lowest mark being a C, and that's really good, seeings I failed my SOSE exam.

It'sĀ cold, I'm lonely, I'm bored and a little shaken up, hope everyone else is good.
