It's officially crunch time... which is odd to say cause it seems like life is always so busy so why would this be any more busy??
This Easter weekend will be the 24th annual Apollo Western Cup here in Calgary. www.westerncup.com
This is the longest running, annual gay sporting event in the world... and this year it begins it expansion! This year we are adding 2 new events to the weekend, a log distance run and swim meet will join the bowling, badminton, volleyball, and curling tournaments from the past. I am the secretary for Apollo and on the organizing committee for Western Cup Curling. I just got a phone call to be part of the organzing committee for Western Cup 24! We will have a meeting tomorrow night then be running from there!
All this leads us to next years event which not only will add two more events, but will be a co event with Outgames and GLISA (gay and lesbian international sport association)! This will follow the first ever Outgames to be held this year at the end of July in Montreal and start smaller versions of the games being held around the world leading up to the return of the 2009 Outgames in Copenhagen (similar to the Olympics).
This is such a huge oppertunity for Calgary and western Canada! Already the Outgames will play host to more atheletes then are planned to attend the 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler/Vancouver...
