Operating System @ MindSay
One minute I held the key...
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand...
Let's just say that I am again testing my laptop whilst I have the time to do so. We can so for it is so. I'm now trying a different approach entirely - sort of. The thing about my laptop that I can tolerate any longer is the fact that it is so slow to boot and to load everything I need to accomplish all that must be done. At this time all I need to do that requires my laptop is a word processing program and a graphics editor. I do not have an absolute need to surf the Internet, I do not have the need to run intensive apps, I do not have much to do, so I am testing minimalist live CD operating systems and at the moment I am running Slax (about the fourth different Linux-based OS on a LiveCD I have tested tonight), which seems to be going well on this ancient piece of technology. Though I know that someday I will break down and buy a laptop that will be far better suited to my needs, but for the time being this arrangement just may work...
So what shall I speak of whilst test the performance of this latest entry in the long line of tests I have carried out upon my laptop? This is a question for which I have no answer. But there is one thing that has been on my mind since I began this quest last week (and yes, it is geek related), and that is if the folks at Microsoft truly wish to destroy the open source community, all they need to do is to release the Windows 98 source code to the public. This version of Windows was phenomenal and I still use it on this laptop top. The last PC I built used it for its operating system just so that I did not have to buy an OS, and I used it until the Spring of '07. So that is my bit of advice to the fine folks in Redmond and if they wish to implement my suggestion all they have to do to compensate me for my thoughtfulness is send me free software and I shall be a happy boy though if they wished to employ me I would have no trouble saying yes to their request...
I think we might have a winner for the laptop challenge for I actually see the letters appearing before me in real time and I must be careful pressing tha backspace for I tend to lose more characters than I wish to. And this is a good thing for I am beginning to run out of CDs to burn and I am growing tired to downloading things that are slowly filling my hard drive. Yes, I know this is not really a problem because all I have to do is turn on my external hard drive and move all the junk to that. I do so enjoy being overly dramatic about meaningless things...
And so I type away until the wee hours of the morning for it is currently 3:09 am, and I am still testing this though I do believe that it will do all I need and it is far faster then most and it does not require me to do anything with the files already in place upon my hard drive though I will have to play around a bit more to see if I adjust the sensitivity of the keys - I find myself adding a few extra letters throughout the course of this little exercise. But this is a good thing because most I have tested are much slower than this and if I decide not to make the necessary changes to make the clicks slower, it will not be hard to adjust the pressure I bang at the keys with. So this too turns out to be a non-issue that I feel the need to blow entirely out of proportion just so that it makes for interesting reading when I get around to rereading it at some point like a hundred years from now though as some know it is a rare thing for me to reread anything that I have written. 'Tis a rare thing indeed...
Note to self: do not open three applications at once for this slows things down big time, but as a word processor I am hooked so we may go with this, and it allows me to write directly to he hard drive without having to change settings...
And so I shall carry on as I do in all things that are in need of carrying on upon for this is what it means to be alive upon this planet. And now I shall beginning testing things that do not require my typing like how well it recognizes my ZipDrive or other peripherals, I shall push it until I freeze or crash the system for this is what I do and I do it well. I feels as if I am a drill sargent building a better, stronger system that will not let me down in times of emergencies - a system that will make its parents proud, a system that will serve its country well and defend the freedoms that make this country great, and once it finishes boot camp, this will be a system that will serve well for many years to come or until I buy a new one (though it will probably be used or refurbished so that I will have no fears of doing some adjustments to the hardware, but then again every computer I have owned has been open up the day I received it)...
This is the Word of the AntiCrust...
Praise ye who Read the Word for ye are Blessed amongst humans...
And geek too...
And epilogue for the curious: In regards to my pushing the laptop to its limits, I froze the system so bad that the only way I could get it to shutdown was by unplugging it and then removing the battery, I don't mess around when it comes to stressing a system...
And I discovered that my castles stand

Say HELLO to my little friend...
Yes, his name is Tux!
I am typing this entry, in the bathroom, #2, on my laptop, which is currently:
My laptop is not that old. I just bought it this past Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving Day). After installing Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon), I feel like I have a whole new toy all over again.
I still have my default OS in this thing. But now, everytime I turn my laptop on, I have a choice (GRUB) whether I want to log into Ubuntu Linux or Microsoft Vista (default).
For a while there, I thought I was really good with computers. After having my first take at Ubuntu Linux, I feel like a n00b all over again. Any Linux users care to teach me how to walk all over again?
I'm on the terminal, like:
Security Level: Low (Public / Everybody)
