Oil and the Democrats

Has it ever occurred to anyone that the simple minded politicians talk of quick fixes after they have prevented preparation? The argument that drilling will not provide immediate relief for high gas prices is so obviously flawed and irrelevant it makes you wonder what they will try next to rationalize their bumbling interference. To say drilling will not help immediately is like saying it won't help to plow the garden cause the seeds won't sprout until later.

The process of getting oil requires getting land to explore on, determination of the most likely places to drill, running environmental studies, getting permits, getting the money for expenses and equipment, hiring personnel, learning how to find oil. taking the risk of drilling, capturing the oil that is found and transporting it and refining it, and setting up a distribution system to sell it. Does that sound like something a politician could even fathom doing?

And the environmentalists evidently imagine that when the gasoline gets too expensive to afford that they will still be able to travel to Washington to protest, that the goods and services they have that are delivered by truck, train and air will still be affordable and plentiful. And the caribou who not one person in 50,000 ever sees will be grateful they didn't have to hike around an oil pipeline. did you ever notice how cattle in Kansas and Oklahoma coexist with oil wells?

Want something? Get a supplier. Let the supplier produce. Don't put up barriers. Expect the supplier to profit form his efforts. Its really not that difficult. Except when you have a politician involved that thinks it is more important to have a constituency to keep him in office than to recognize that humans need sources of energy to survive and prosper. Clean air doesn't do much for an empty stomach.

(no subject)
This really burns my butt!! Does it not seem strange to you all that the price of fuel is going up up up and yet the oil companies are making a huge profit, and they don't seem to be paying anything higher on their oil and gas that they then sell to us, why is that? It would seem logical to this country girl that as our gas prices goes up that they  the oil companies, should be paying  higher for what they buy to sell to us, but they don't, seems fishy to me......I would suggest that these prices are high for this very reason so that we would think  we need more oil and so we would give permission for them to drill in these areas. As long as the public 'thinks' it is needed that they Bush and his oil buddies will be able to drill anywhere they wish, it seems very suspicious to me.
I am not dumb and I know we need to find better and cleaner fuels, this is a must, but I really do believe that we are getting the shaft.

Bush to ask Congress to clear way for offshore oil drilling

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush will ask Congress Wednesday to lift the ban on new offshore drilling, White House press secretary Dana Perino said Tuesday.

If President Bush can persuade Congress, more oil rigs like this one off Canada could appear off U.S. shores.

If President Bush can persuade Congress, more oil rigs like this one off Canada could appear off U.S. shores.

The request will come a day after presumed Republican presidential candidate John McCain issued the same call.

"For years, the president has pushed Congress to expand our domestic oil supply, but Democrats in Congress have consistently blocked such action," Perino told CNN.

Opponents of offshore drilling say it would harm aquatic ecosystems by eroding wetlands, contaminating the water with chemicals, polluting the air, killing fish and dumping waste.

Bush has long called for opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil exploration, but Perino said he now wants to go further.

"With gasoline now over $4 a gallon, tomorrow he will explicitly call on Congress to also pass legislation lifting the congressional ban on safe, environmentally friendly offshore oil drilling," Perino said.

She added, "As with several existing Republican congressional proposals, he wants to work with states to determine where offshore drilling should occur, and also for the federal government to share revenues with the states. The president believes Congress shouldn't waste any more time."

At a campaign event in Houston, Texas, McCain made similar comments.

"We have proven oil reserves of at least 21 billion barrels in the United States," he said. "But a broad federal moratorium stands in the way of energy exploration and production. And I believe it is time for the federal government to lift these restrictions and to put our own reserves to use." Video Watch McCain state his new position on drilling ยป

He said lifting the ban could be done "in ways that are consistent with sensible standards of environmental protection."

McCain's plan would let individual states decide whether to explore drilling possibilities.

According to his campaign, presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama wants to invest $150 billion over the next 10 years to establish a green energy sector, create a national low-carbon fuel standard to ensure that the fuel is more efficient, and invest in clean energies like solar, wind and biodiesel.

New drilling already could be in the works 50 miles off the Florida coast -- by Cubans, not Americans, with help from China and other allies. A rich undersea oil field stretches into Cuban waters near the Florida Keys.

"The people I represent can't understand how we can possibly let China end up with rights to our oil and gas in the Gulf of Mexico because we say we're not going to do it and they say, 'OK, we'll do it and we'll work with Cuba, if we have to, to do it,'" said U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp, R-Tennessee. "That's really asinine."

Ahmadinijeadiej... says, "Stop giving us your crappy money!"

"They get our oil and give us a worthless piece of paper," Ahmadinejad said earlier after the close of the summit in the Saudi capital of Riyadh.

The comments by the Iranian president gained backing from Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez as he said at the same event, "The empire of the dollar has to end."

On the soaring oil prices, the Iranian president said, "At a time when the growth of consumption is lower than the growth of production and the market is full of oil, prices are rising and this trend is completely fake and imposed."

"As you know the decrease in the dollar's value and the increase in energy prices are two sides of the same coin which are being introduced as factors behind the recent instability," Ahmadinejad added.

road trip to a wedding in canada
took us 30 hours to go from san francisco to prince george, BC. What a long drive, half way thru my butt was beginning to get sore. BMWs have great seats but I don't think they where design for 30 hours straight driving. Granted we took some gas and food break but other then that it was non stop.
Over the 1500 miles, my 323i was averaging 32.6 miles per gallon. Not bad, Not bad at all.
by the 2 weeks end I think we'll have driven over 4000 miles. Hopefully I won't exceed the 15,000 mile oil change by too much.
Yes I change the oil every 15000 miles. My car's over 142000 miles. No issue, no oil burning at all.
The paper filter doesn't look so hot after 15000, so I changed out the oil filter around 7000-8000 miles. not the oil though.
I recently changed the valve cover and I gotta say, it was super clean inside, no sludge what so ever, Synthetic OIL is AWSOME.
I need to replace the clip on my under engine cover, it keeps coming loose.
