postcard from ny
Today I received a postcard from New York my friend Delta Purl, not to be confused with Delta faucet, sent a bunch of Plurkies one while she visited NY. It's funny, though. The card got here after she had already returned back to her home. Why do postcards always seem to do that? LOL It is a cute card and I am happy to have it. I also thought it would be ironic to get a postcard from the very state where I will soon be living.

Lexus RX 400h: Design/Fit and Finish

As we said before, the RX 400h's styling still looks fresh. We're still not fans of the taillights that look like they're embedded in tin foil, but we still appreciate the sporty, chiseled form. There's a price to pay for the rakish roof line, however, as visibility to the rear quarters is compromised by the cheeky, canted D-pillars. We recommend springing for the optional back-up camera, which takes the anxiety out of parallel parking.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Comfort

In back, the seat has a high cushion so even taller folks have ample under-thigh support. Though the rear backrest looks flat, it's comfortable, while nearly 36 inches of rear legroom prove enough for a pair of 6-foot staffers riding front and rear.

BMW 550i

"This might be the perfect car," exclaimed one of our road test editors after putting the 2008 BMW 550i through its paces at our test track. "It's the perfect size, looks great, it's fast, it handles. Does everything well." You could throw in supremely comfortable, quiet on the highway, luxuriously appointed and beautifully built. We would never go so far as to declare it "the perfect car" — there are always going to be a few areas of contention — but the BMW 550i would most certainly be among the nominees with Vegas odds in its favor.

Lee Dodge : Dodge Journey R/T

And yet, like so many recent Chrysler products, a wealth of good ideas and interesting features has been sullied by flawed or nickel-and-dime execution. In general, the Journey lacks the levels of refinement found in the many family crossovers it competes with, such as the RAV4, Honda CR-V and Hyundai Santa Fe, and larger models like the Chevy Traverse.

Nissan GT-R

And yet, you probably knew that already if you've ever heard the name Skyline or read anything about this automotive legend-in-the-making aptly nicknamed Godzilla. This is a car with a 473-horsepower twin-turbo V6, all-wheel drive and enough performance to give Porsche 911 drivers nightmares. But the real question is, what's it like to live with Godzilla? Can you drive a GT-R every day, or does its max-attack attitude turn it into nothing more than a weekend plaything?

Saab 9-3 Turbo X Sport Combi

So does that mean the Turbo X is the ex-girlfriend, while the Aero is the gal you should take down the aisle? Well, no. All of the Turbo X's major low points are actually shared with the Aero — cramped backseat, disappointing fuel economy, chintzy interior and most of all, an absurdly high price. According to Edmunds True Market Value® pricing for August 2008, both the 9-3 Aero and Turbo X on average sell for $2,000 below invoice, but at about $41,000, that would still make our Turbo X test car too expensive given similarly priced competitors. The Aero is no different.

Likewise, varying cabin accents, such as different wood-tone and metallic accents, give the interiors some pizzazz. Fit and finish in our test vehicles — ranging from the basic STX to the leather-lined Lariat — was solid, with even panel gaps and no squeaks or rattles.

Lee Dodge NY : Nissan Maxima 3.5 SV Sport: Comfort

The rear seats are near mirror images of their forward counterparts, as the Sport package includes rear bucket seats. This is great for outboard occupants, but perches the poor schmoe stuck in the middle up onto the buckets' edges and into the ceiling. Seating capacity could better be described as 4+1.

caves,caves and more caves

Welcome 2009!! Where shall i start caving this new year? Lets try new York. Now that the Dead have released a spring tour we will be in Albany,Ny in April.Only 37 miles away is Howe caverns,a multifunctional cave complex. The "great wonder from down under" is a live cave complete with underground boat ride.Hiking, gem mining and horseback riding make this seem an ideal place for us to spend the night before the long, strange trip home.

In the opposite direction from Albay is the Natural Stone Bridge and Caves in Pottersville,Ny.The bridge is one of the oldest rock formations in the US.I wish we had the time to do this cave while out there becuase the pictures in the brochure are beautiful.

Down in Pennsylvannia are at least three caves of interest.Lost River Caverns (how many of these are scattered around, lol?) in Hellertown. This cave also boasts an earth science museum and a hungle garden with waterfall.Open year round www.lostcave.com

In Centre Hall,Pa is Penn's Cave.America's only all water cavern and wildlife sanctuary. And don't forget the plane rides over the valley.Sounds like a great little mini vacation in the fall. www.pennscave.com

In Hershey is Indian Echo Caverns. This seems like a cheesey little history tourist spot. The cave does have 3 lakes but no boat ride.Worthy of a stop if in the area I am sure. www.indianechocaverns.com

Doign this cave blog always reminds me of the great natural beauty in the US. With a couple of free days and a little food and gas money a great trip is to be had in some of Americas smallest towns.
