Today I had to take the day off - I already had a check up with the nurse at the Crossfell Health Centre - and I also happened to be at the start of a developing chest infection on that very day.

 

How typical?

 

I'm being told to stay off tomorrow too.

 

Yesterday in the library, I was told by many that I shouldn't even be in school.

During my lessons, I had to sit with my salbutamol blue inhaler next to my pencil case on my desk - having to take it every time I started coughing.

 

I'm not meant to take it too much in one day, I don't think.

I think I took it about 30 times in 5 hours - and by quarter part 3, I was shaking and slurring my speech - and getting my words mixed up.

 

One thing I said to Sam in Media Studies was: "Scham... Pass uss the glooooue..."

Then I was chewing on some cardboard - as we're making stages for music programmes out of old copier paper boxes, and the print had all dissolved in my mouth.

 

So I turned and asked: "Scham, has my purple gone tongue?"

 

I did the same thing when I was talking to Claire in the library after school.

 

"Is that your schript for Schweet Charity?"

 

"I juscht wanna go home... Make schome iche water... I might use a whole cube of iche trays."

 

She said I was talking like I was drunk.

I noticed it myself.

It was very funny. :)

 

 

The check-up wasn't as bad as I expected.

Fine, I didn't care for the idea of the stethoscope being shoved up under my bra, but, you know.

 

I got to do a peak flow test too.

THEY ARE SO GOD DAMN FUN. :)

 

Though, painful sometimes.

I only ever get to do them when I'm ill, so... Not good.

 

Ian and Lisa took us there and back.

Ian's my brother, and Lisa's his wife.

 

They're both funny and really nice people.

I like going to their house sometimes.

They come out with really random things and I laugh.

But neither of them like the sound of my laugh.

 

I got a chocolate and toffee eclaire from Morrison's, and ate it when I got home.

It was really rather lush.

 

Ian bought me the new Nintendo magazine too.

I got free Wii remote decals.

I might stick the Sonic one on my Wii remote, brighten it up a bit.

 

 

I played some Guitar Hero III during the afternoon.

I got some more 100% scores on Medium level and pwned some more n00bs on Face-Off over wi-fi connection.

 

Ah, the fun.

 

 

I'm currently addicted to Fires At Midnight by Blackmore's Night.

I love the guitar solo near the end, and the bit where Candice raises her voice to sing.

 

All of Blackmore's Night's songs seem to be about the moon, the stars, the nighttime, and dancing with witches and spirits.

It all seems a bit Wiccan.

But it's supposed to be Medieval Folk Rock.

 

Eh, who knows.

 

 

Music artists are indeed, confusing people.

Not a whole lot of them here in Mindsay.. unfortunately.

In the past, being a nurse meant sticking around the patients and helping them out in the best way possible. Nurses were known to be doctors’ maids, and until today, nurses struggle to be seen as independent caretakers.

Now, the nurse knows anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, microbiology, epidemiology, psychology, sociology, ethics.. the nurse is now a scientist with a smile and a helping hand. Along this struggle, it has been necessary to define and assign new roles. Deontological codes have been created and the nurse is now a fully independent caretaker.

And since now we have so many responsibilities, we don’t have time to make beds and give baths. That’s the medical assistants’ responsibility. In the hospital, the nurse is getting farther and farther from the patient. Tasks that require TLC (tender loving care) are being delegated to other professionals, and the nurse’s job is now reduced to technical procedures.

Hospital administrations are becoming extremely bureaucratic and the nurse spends almost half of its shift reading and filling papers, most of them, quite redundant.

The nurse, who has the required academic background to handle people with respect, is filling papers, while the medical assistant who is not a licensed professional is taking care of the patients.. Is this acceptable? Hahah!..

So why is the nurse supposed to be constantly learning and self-updating? What for?!

Okay so that is some of what I did between 7:30 and now today.

 

I am pysched though.  Got my stitches out with only a lil trouble with the one that kept crusting over.  Sooooooooo glad I took a loafa sponge to that stitch this morning to get it loose!  The doctor came in bent my knee every which way, got the low down of what happened after surgery with it, and we discussed his uppity nurse and issues I had.

 

Doc Samulson was NOT happy when he heard that my surgery was switched from the Hospital Surgery Center to the New Surgery Center across the street WITHOUT my okay.  Nor was he happy that Peg gave me hell for cxling the appointment I did NOT remember agreeing too even if I did and attempted to chew my ass out.  He goes that explains why she passed off your chart to the younger nurse.  I said yep cause she didn't want to be in here when I was laying it out to you about her behavor.  She may be just fine with the older crowd of paitents but she isn't going to pull that crap with me.  I reminded him he wasn't affiliated with any of the Clinics or Hospitals in the area and I could easily move my knee issues back to my highschool knee surgeran even if I do NOT like his new facility and how it is in SD and away from all the hospitals.  And if I move my care over there so does my dad and so does my uncle (he is having knee surgery this month from via a different doc in same office) and he would loose a potintal paitent with my hubby's shoulder.  He apologized and said he will discuss Peg's behavor and she will NO LONGER be my nurse when I go.  Get uppity with me we will have issues.  I don't buy into I am a Nurse therefore I must know more than you bullcrap.  Kiss my ass!  My mom's a RN, my sister's an RN, I have multiple cousins that are nurses, paramedics, doctors, PA's, and physical therapist NOT to mention Vet's and Vet techs. 

 

Anyway I got clearance to hit the gym but no reistant weights on my legs-I am to use free weights where I can control the actual weight on that knee.  And I can go back to taekwondo with walk throughs and pivots but no jump kicking as of yet.  And I go back in a month to get final clearance and discuss periodic care of my knees as I get older.

 

Yay me!  Starting next week every morning I am hitting the gym after I drop the kids off-barring any other appointments!

Okay, usually I don't promote anyone rushing their kids to the doctor.  My Mom's is a 38 year vetran RN nurse, who perferred and still does natural remedies to going to the doctor right away.  Hell she even stitched up my eyebrow at a Softball tournie in highschool because I refused to leave to go to ER!  But she also taught me, to take the kids to the doctor when needed.

 

Well PLEASE folks, take your kids tot he doctor sooner than later this year.  Don't be like me!  It bite me in the ass putting Coltin's doctor's appontment off till yesterday.  He has a sever upper respatory infection and is wheezing like an asmatic person.  But I don't feel guilty or bad about not taking him earlier because he showed no signs that he was in destress until I made the appointment.  Even the doctor was suprised that he wasn't rattling like most folks do, no snot coming down from the nose or up from the lungs. 

 

Coltin is now on a course of zithromax and a steriod to help with the wheezing!  No fevers though so he can go back to school today.  I kept him home yesterday because the poor boy was miserable from the coughing and I took him to the doctor to boot. 

 

If he isn't better by the time I go into the doctor next week for my 3-4 month labs and check, I am to take him with me for an x-ray and we will start breathing treatments.  Thank GODS my Mom has my Granny's breathing machine all I will need is prescription for the meds then.  I think he will be better though, so far this morning, he has had 2 doses of the antibotics and 3 doses of the steriods and he sounds soooooooooooo much better.  Plus the doctor said I could continue over the counter cough medicines and cough drops.  So the couging is still there but not as bad as it was!

 

This year the way the weather has been is going to be ruff on us with viruses and bactieral infectiosn folks.  I strongly suggest that you keep a vareity of over the counter and home remedy items on hand and take yourself, your kids, and your elders to the doctor sooner rather than later this year!  Don't be like me! 

 

My poor boy barks like a seal though.  It gets to the point I want to start looking around for the other seals to join him!  Then I get this picture in my head about some sea lion coming up and eating my baby while he is eating!  Yay.  I have an odd mind I tell ya!  And of course the sea lion has the face of the doctor!  Isn't that some shit!

Well I have been biting my tongue out of respect to my dad over a lot of things even though we do "dicuss" things.  But remember when I said some folks are going to come down off their pedestals a while back?  Well the first casuality is my sister.

 

I told her how my therapy appointment went and she totally agreed and said what featherdawn said!  And then we went on about how her weekend went and how her work is going.  Little back ground from here.  My moms is an RN and my sister is an RN with a BS in Biology and Minor in Chemestry.  I worked as a CNA for 5 years.  My sister and I both have worked nursing homes and my mom has only ever worked Hospital settings.  Now my sister is a floor nurse at one of the major county hospitals for her area after getting out of ER after 10 years.

 

Okay we got to talkign about how eventually in my dottering old age I will be like our father and end up in constant pain and in a wheel chair.  My dad isn't to the wheelchair part yet but it is only a matter of time now.  My sister procedded to tell me that there was no excuse for my bitching when I put myself through pain and blah blah blha.  I can live with her spouting she knows NOTHING about orthopedics nor what it is like to have bad knees or any bad joint for that matter.  I even got her ass on her trying to spout off on my Diabetes.  She has Thyroid deises and if she doesn't get her weight down she will end up with Diabetes.  That didn't piss her off this is on of our normal arguements.  What did piss her off was my defending the old Geratrics at my therapy session!

 

She goes I would have told those people off!  I said oh T they don't know any better!  That is how they were raised and in a way they have earned the right to spout.  As long as I didn't take offense what is the big deal.  And then she procedded to say that is why I would never make a good nursing home nurse is because I worked to long as a CNA if I ever wanted to be a nurse that is.  I said bullshit.  You as a Nurse that worked in a Nursing home have NO CLUE how to react or interact wtih the residents!  All nurses do is paperwork because you all don't know how to put the residents before paperwork.  And if you don't like what I have to say to dayum bad.  I have taken on more LPN/LPVs, RNs, DONs, and Adminstrators then you have ever thought of.  You are too afraid to open your dayum mouth.  Nurses handle paperwork and pass pills and pass on the information that CNA's gather to the docs and family.  Then you all have the NERVE to get PIST when CNA's are short handed (which is all the time) and need some help.  Goddess forbide you all stay past quiting time to finish the paperwork!  No instead you blow the CNA's off and do your paperwork unless it is an "emergency".  When a CNA HAS no choice but to take care of the resident right then or there.  A because that is what we are paid to do B because if we don't the nurses get pist off and try to fire us and C the entire nursing staff from nurses to Administrators (most of them in nursing homes use to be DON's which they all use to be nurses or in some other medical feild) are more concerned over paperwork!  If CNA's are required to do something for a nurse it doesn't matter to them if we are in the middle of something, we are to finish up as fast as possible and screw what needs to be done right or if the resident's feelings are taken into account and do what the nurse says because the nurse is to lazy to mop up Mr. such and such's spilled snack drink themselves!  Let alone get Mrs. so and so's cig and wheel her to the smoking room or outside for that smoke that the NURSE promised but the CNA has to take care of!  And if we don't have our shit done when quiting time comes around to dayum bad!  We have to stay finish it and do rounds with the next shift!  HOW FARKED up is that!  All the while the nurse is on her way home!  And don't get me started on LPNs/LVNS!  They are the worst in nursing homes even compared to RNS.  Your lucky sister that you got your RN cause if you didn't I would call you one lazy ass slacker!  What is the whole point of going through nursing school to get an LPN/LVN when your only a few classes short of getting an RN?!?  That one my sister happened to agree with me on:D

 

After that lil bout of arguing and my sister pouting but agreeing with me we then went off about our children!  I know my children aren't perfect but I love them.  And I know I wench and bitch about getting some me time but I don't pawn my kids off every farking chance I get!  And I may not like it when the schedule changes due to a kid activity and I do my share of moaning but I go with the flow.  My sister is famous as so many other parents are about bitching and moaning that somethign is not working out because of the kids or hubby and not like how I and others do it......bitch about it, be done with it and go with the flow.  She harps on it.  And it is her own dayum fault for signing her kids up for things and not putting her foot up her hubby's ass or even her own ass about her busy schedule!  I asked her why did you bother having kids if they are going to be constantly either at a baby sitters house, doing something, and your constantly sleeping because your working?!?    I will give it to my sister though she doesn't bitch about not going out.  She knows that would just get her ass handed to her not only by me but by all her mom friends even the divorced ones that share custody!  You gave up the right to have a life that consist of being kid free when you spread your legs, popped out a mini me, and consented to take care of the child!  What right does ANY parent have to bitch about their free time being taken away because their kid is always around!  Sorry folks that is apart of life and exactly what I pointed out to my sister.  Take a day to be kid free or hell lets do a sister weekend down in Omaha or Lincoln.  Hell I am even up for KC or Shy Town myself.  The parental units or I should say the female parental unit would consent in taking 4 of her 5 grandkids for a long weekend to give her own girls a break from the kids! 

 

Needless to say my older sister is PIST the FARK OFF at me!  But she will get over it.  She is starting to already because when I called Doc Mommy up to take a look at a finger of mine she already called whinning to her about what I DARED say to her!  And my mom as an RN nurse completely agreed with me about nursing home nurses both LPN/LVN and RNS and reminded my sister about how she is actually taking care of paitents now on top of the paperwork and NOT just hte paper work and relying on CNAs to get her hte info!  My mom also told her the same thing I did about the kids.  Be lucky you actually watn to spend time with yoru kids and realize that you do sign them up for too much shit.  So many people out htere think having kids should be a walk in a park and want to pawn them off on the non custiodal parent and still get that child support or pawn them off on their partner and still expect their partner to do for them after taking care of the kids for hte most part!

 

I expect a few weeks of not being inturrupt while she is cooling her ass off with me   I might actually get the costumes done for Halloween now!
