NKOTB Concert is Friday
Well, tomorrow is the day.  I am going to see New Kids on The block and I am so excited.......I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks Kimmie for reminding other's about October being Domestic violence awareness month.

Like a Teenager

Okay, I think I can finally talk about it.

I met the New Kids on the Block on Friday night. Met. Them. Wow.

I can't help thinking how quickly we can regress to our former teenage selves. I was exhilarated and giddy with joy over meeting my teenage idols. Who Knew?

So here's the nutshell version of what happened (you'll thank me if I ever tell you the complete story...ask my mom, it's pretty long).

Kelly and I got in the autograph line at 5:30. They were supposed to sing then and sign autographs later. They came on stage about 6:45. They sang 3 songs. "Summertime", "Tonight", and "Single" which is their upcoming single.

This is them singing "Summertime."

Then they left the stage for a bit (to recover from the exertion?) while they reset the stage for the autograph session.

Kelly and I were the last two people in line for autographs, so instead of waiting in the line, we left to go get a drink and kill some time in the Mall (smart girls!).

This is Kelly, decked out in her 20-year-old memorabilia. The shirt (which she got them to autograph!) and the neon hat with all the buttons. She is holding up her pass that gets us into the line and is the thing they are supposed to autograph.

I took this photo of the left side of the rotunda to give an idea of how many people were there to see them.

You are only seeing a quarter of the space people can stand. Plus only two of the three levels above us....obviously, it was crowded. (And extremely hot in there!)

After we had drinks and an appetizer, we went to watch the signing for a bit, while we waited for the line to go down before our turn.

This is looking down on the autograph session from the 4th floor. The table with the New Kids is immediately to the left of the words "Best Buy". The rest are fans and security.

Finally, it was almost our turn. This is about 5 people to go before we get on the stage. And our last chance to take pictures. No cameras allowed on stage. The guy in all black (sitting down) is Jordan Knight. Slightly behind him and to the left (in black and white, wearing a hat) is Joe McIntyre.

Then it was our turn. Kelly and I were the last two fans to get on the stage to meet them and lucky for us. Because we were last, they signed Kelly's t-shirt, which was against the rules. And because I was the absolute last, I got a couple freebies. Donnie Wahlberg went to shake my hand and I took it and said "how 'bout a kiss?" And he leaned in and we kissed each other on the cheek.

Yes, Donnie Wahlberg kissed me on the cheek. Sigh.

Then, he said to me, "Last one in line, babe, you get the pen." And gave me the Sharpie he had been signing with all night long. I know, you're all jealous of me.

When he started talking to me,  I went in to this small trance (and I was still freaking over the fact that he kissed me!) so I just sort of stared at him for a moment. Meanwhile, Danny had grabbed my pass and signed it, and then he seemed to be amused at my gawking over a Sharpie (which I snatched from Donnie while thanking him profusely) and then he (Danny) offered me his half-eaten granola bar. I took that, too.

I plan on bringing the granola bar to the concert in October and if we manage to meet them again, I will get Danny to sign it.

This is mere moments after we met them. We are holding our autographed passes and grinning like fools. Check out Kelly's shoulder, where they signed her shirt. And please note the Sharpie and granola bar I am holding in my hand!

So that was pretty much it. We met them, got their autographs, I got a kiss, and it was pretty damn cool.

One last thing. Years and years ago, Kelly and I met Bryan Adams and his band after their concert at the Target Center. We were the last ones to meet them as well (last is the best!) and after getting my t-shirt signed, the band gave me their pizza box with a half-eaten crust of pizza in it. So, Kelly and I were wondering....what is is about me that makes celebrities give me their half-eaten food?

Dream Come True

Oh boy, oh boy!

You are never going to believe this, but the New Kids on the Block are going to be at the Mall of America.....today!

After 20 years of adoration from afar, Kelly and I will be in line to MEET the New Kids. Meet them, talk to them and get them to sign our cds. When we were in love with them as preteens and teenagers, we used to dream about the day when we could finally meet them.

Today, at 5:30, that dream will finally come true. Can I just say thank God for the Mall of America?

I suck at blogging

I totally skipped the month of May. A lot has been going on in my neck of the woods. I have been able to pop on a few times here and there to check out what my peoples have been up to, but really have not had the time to do an actual entry. Here is my usual little bulleted summary of stuff in no particular order of happenings.

  • Ben and I broke up. We are still great friends and see each other everyday. He is probably moving to Arizona because he can make nearly almost triple what he does here.
  • helendaysauce had her baby!
  • My cell phone is on the verge of dying. Evidently a lot of moisture got into it and fucked it up hardcore. I didn't know what to do, so Ben and I went to the Alltel in Merrill seeing as there are no Alltels in Wausau. The dick working asked me "Are you sure this is an Alltel phone?". Uh, yeah...I wouldn't be bringing it to you if it wasn't. It is now working, but hit and miss. Of course, I don't have insurance on it and I have over a year left in my contract.
  • It is Woodchuck season again!
  • I finally went to the doctor for my anxiety and depression. The doctor put me on Fluoxetine and I am to call him in two weeks to let him know how it is going. So far I am not feeling any different except I am now sleeping through the night.
  • Going on two months of overtime at work and people are really getting sick of it; not the pay, but working the long hours and not getting a thank you. Four ten hour days for sure; an occassional fifth ten hour day or a half day is thrown in there.
  • My brother graduated from college.
  • I have been looking for different fulltime employment since about Thanksgiving and haven't had much luck. Not really expecting much out there now with the current state of the economy.
  • I was off of work at the video store for medical reasons and went back in the begining of May to let the manager know I was able to come back to work. He told me that because he didn't know when I was going to be coming back, he hired a bunch of people and now he didn't even have the hours to give them. Is it that hard to give me a call and be like, "Hey Sara, this is Shaun. I was wondering if you had a possible timeline for when you would be coming back. I am looking to be hiring more people and wanted to make sure you were coming back before I started interviewing."
  • My brother's band Flash Back has been playing at a bar in Rapids on a regular basis and now is going to be playing there every third Saturday of the month.
  • Will be seeing Seether and REO Speedwagon this summer at the fair.
  • Had pink-eye. I was really hoping it was just allergies, but of course it couldn't be. Plus, I have never had goopy eyes with allergies, so I knew it was a long shot. The whole week prior to my pink-eye, five out of the seven kids in my classroom had the whole pink-eye like symptoms; none of their doctors would confirm it, but they were treating it with drops just to be on the safe side. Yeah, try to tell me none of them had pink-eye and I ended up with it -- in BOTH eyes.
  • I really want to see NKOTB when they tour this summer.
  • Brought my bike up from my parents' place. I haven't ridden it much yet. I really need to ride from the apartment to work to see how long it is going to take me to ride to work.
  • Might be heading back to the Twin Cities this summer and head back to IKEA and go to the Hard Rock Cafe. I will call ahead and make sure that they have the Lillberg couch before I go.
