Nintendo Revolution @ MindSay

Wii
Just as the Dolphin was named Gamecube, Nintendo announced the official name of their upcoming Revolution console.

Wii

"Introducing ... Wii. As in "we." While the code-name "Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games ... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does the name mean?"

"Wii sounds like 'we,' which emphasizes this console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii."

"Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd."

"So that's Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because, it's really not about you or me. It's about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything."

Thank you Joystiq for providing me with the information to post here and also thanks for the many jokes that were listed as well.

Honestly, as much as I love the big N... I have to wonder if they enjoy the view the hardcore gaming audience has of them.  If this new system wanted to change some misconceptions that gamers have... the name isn't helping.  I already feel under attack when I tell people that I play cube (or kiddie cube as they call it) and having to defend myself that I play "Wii" isn't going to be any easier.  The jokes are pre-made this time!

Although, What do I care about defending myself.  I can't wait until I can actually use the controller, I'm very excited to download the classic games and I'm pumped for finally having backwards compatablity on a non-portable Nintendo console.  I'm very excited to own a "Wii".

I'm just going to have say that word a little quieter around certain company.

Tracer Gear: Transparent
Sorry I haven't updated like usual but I'm guessing you guys are getting use to that. Well anyways what's up with me you're wondering? Well I've been working mostly through Christmas of course videogames are involved. It was insane. Oh by the way I guess I should update everyone on how the videogames are coming along and next generation consoles.

Playstation 3 will not come out Spring. I do not care what magazines are saying. We haven't gotten our 6 months in advance preorders list going, meaning it's been pushed back most likely fall of 2006. Or even Spring 2007. Don't get your hopes on that. And by the way PS3 will blow Xbox 360 out of the water. Not because the graphics look good or anything. They're using technology that doesn't even exist. Plus Japan is home to Sony and Nintendo I highly doubt they'll go for 360s. Which reminds me Mircosoft sent 100,000 unites over there. Only 30,000 sold. That's crushing. But anyways on to the next system.

Nintendo Revolution. The controller is pretty much the talk. Able to swing it like a sword, tennis racket, golf club, bat, anything practically. Also will be a DVD player, will have online capabilities, backward compabilities (meaning you can Play GameCube games.) You'll be able to download every single game ever created by Nintendo for 10 bucks a month unlimited. Also it'll only be $100 dollars. That's what I'm hearing from our Nintendo representive. Now tell me that's not appealing. It just goes to show that it's not about the graphics.

Anyways there are a few games I would get for 360 though. Like Dead OR Alive 4 which comes out tomorrow hopefully that's been pushed back quite a bit. And Soul Calibur 3 is on there, just because it's going to look very pretty. But I'm getting the PS3 and Revolution. I'm going to start paying when we're allowed to preorders 8 months in advance. Reasons to get PS3, totally better then 360 and watched the Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots trailer. Nintendo Revoultion of all the things it can do and I love seeing it come back and take out quite a number of people heheh. Recent games to get right now or coming very soon. Dragon Quest 8 (the game that shuts Japan down for 2 weeks), Kingdom Hearts 2 (Just came out in Japan December 22. Release here in the US will be March) Final Fantasy 12 April but I'm hearing it's being pushed back again, God hopefuly not, it looks sooooo good. They worked really hard on it that's for sure, glad they already took a long time with it. Mario Super Strikers soccer game is awesome. That's quite a bit. I also just got a Nintendo DS since I was talking about it last entry.Go out there and find the trailers to these games they're awesome! And no this isn't going to be a complete videogame entry there's stuff about me too starting now! HAHA

A couple of days before Christmas. I got to talk to Catherine. For the first time ever. So our gifts to each other was hearing each other for the first time. It was really sweet. I sounded like a huge dork like I am now, talking about videogames and all.I really really like her. I worked pretty hard on her, and now she's even mentioning the L word, I don't think she's ever really said it much. And it surprises me that she's giving me a chance even with us so far apart. I don't feel sad like I would when I was somewhat dating other girls who lived far away. She's even trying to smile for me in her pictures haha she's so cute =P. Oh man what else is there now? Oh yeah I was thinking about something and totally forgot it. And she actually brings it up. She said she wants to talk to me on New Year's Eve. It will be our 4 months and going. It's pretty special, and I was the one who usually brings it up. She remembered. It's so nice to feel that the person you're going for is starting to like you more and more and fall in love with you. I want to keep her. I WILL keep her as much as possible. I'm sounding crazy aren't I?

We were talking last night about this idea I was coming up with. It's pretty stupid but it's a story I kind wanna do. It's called Tracer Gear: Transparent. Haha yes it's based off of the Hideo Kojima's games called Metal Gear Solid. Tracer Gear has a lot of meanings. I mean all we're practically doing is making fun of Metal Gear, videogames, anime, manga, artwork. Oh God we're doing everything. We're making fun of Disney, PIXAR, Cartoon Network, Nickeloden, and more. The weapons they use in this story are all have something to do with art haha. Like Paintball gun, rubber cement, X-Acto knifes, and more. I'm still a long way off of what I want to do with this. But if anyone can help with naming rart tools and telling me how they could be used as weapson, or even how artist people think and all. That would be great! ^_^

That's pretty much it for today. But please do check out the Kingdom Hearts 2 trailer guys it's mind blowing. Everybody's in the game you can imagine. And the one scene with Cloud and Squall back to back fighting. That's awesome!! Take Care!

To prove Video Game Posts are back.

Since I'm bringing game posts back... I thought I would copy and paste on of my 1UP blog posts about the Nintendo Revolution controller. This was posted on Sept. 19, 2005 by me.

---------------------------------------------
We have a long way to go before the Nintendo Revolution is released. As everyone who is a gamer knows we have seen the controller. The one-handed TV remote controller.

Being a Nintendo fan, it was hard for me to look at that controller and take it seriously. How could you play some of the current titles on that? That is also the thought that made me realize that I can't look at "today" games with that controller. Instead, I have think of the possibility of games to come. This is when I smiled.

I don't care about system wars or which system is better. I can buy the Xbox 360 and a Nintendo Revolution without a care. I'm a gamer... so I want to game. I don't care which power button I'm hitting.

I love different experiences... I love Dance Dance Revolution because I had never played a game like it before. I bought two keyboards and a copy of Typing of the Dead for the Dreamcast. I haven't played that game much, but I have enjoyed my time with it. It is quarky fun. Don't even get me started on Space Channel 5. Good times! It shouldn't surpise you then that I really want Donky Kong Jungle Beat! Give me something fresh and new and I will be happy camper. Nintendo and Sega have always seemed to understand this. So seeing the motion sensor at work on the Revolution controller has made me smile... I know that I am about to experience games I never thought possible.

Now you know my happy, happy thoughts... here are my worried ones. Wave bye-bye to ported games. My Xbox has a happy gaming life because when a game comes out for all three systems, I play it on that. When Viewitful Joe came out for the Cube, I wanted until the PS2 because I like the PS2 controller better. That pretty much means that I only play 1st party titles on my Cube... which also means, it doesn't see a lot of use. My fear is that I spend money on this new system with a great idea, but have to wait months and months for a new game to play on it.Making games is a business and companies care for their bottom line. Why spend the man power on porting a game to work the Revolution, when in the end they will make more by just releasing it on the two "normal" systems. We have already started to see this with the DS. There aren't many games for that system yet and we getting close it is year anniversary. 3rd parties?? Where are you?

The only I hope I have is that Nintendo knows about this and instead of trying to bring EA or other big names over... Nintendo helps out the small development houses. Give them discounts on license fees, Let them use some of your characters or give them a little money for expenses. Take a chance on the little guy. These companies can afford to think outside the box. They don't have money to compete in the big blockbuster genres, but they can also take risk on something new. A steady stream of small projects with the Big N's own projects and Nintendo might create a system all gamers need.
---------------------------------------------

Now, since this is a post from a couple of days ago... there is some new information now.

1. Ported games might not be that bad due to a "shell" you can put this remote into. It would give you that "regular" controller feel.

2. Nintendo has said they will help out the little guy. (The comment is close to the end of the article.)

3. Castlevania is coming out for the DS this week, so I take back my comments that rip on the DS. At least until I beat it and again have nothing to play on the silver handheld.

I'VE DONE IT!!!!
I'VE DONE IT!!!! I have found my niche in college! In life! I have located my fellow Dorks!!!

And here I was beginging to think I was the only one left in a 200 mile radius. My whole dorm floor is preppy girls...

Yeah, so it's great. We are going to go and meet up for supper later and then watch Dogma. You seriously don't know how great it was. I just spent the last hour talking about things like the new Nintendo Revolution and quoting Monty Python. You can't get any better than this!!!!

Oh, and that guy Eric who is teaching me juggling, he is in my logic class. I'm just looking around today and... voila! There he is! We talked for a while, and he was pretty kewl. I figure I can add him to my list of victims... I mean friends... lol.

First Impressions

When I first saw the Nintendo Revolution controller...I was disappointed. I didn't like how it looked. First off, I have tried playing games with a remote control. It doesn't work. So why would this be any different? Was there something about it that would make this controller better than all the others? I didn't care to look into it further, because most of all I was worried about getting the word out. So, it wasn't until recently that I decided to go back and re-evaluate my decisions.

It turns out, this is more than a controller. This is undoubtedly something that will change how we play games forever. First off, imagine playing a game like Half Life 2, or something else that tasks you with shooting things. Using the controller, you can move your gun/target reticle in any direction you want, without even pressing a button. Imagine being able to solve puzzles and rotate the camera, turn the screen from side to side (similar to what we are seeing in certain GBA games) all without ever pushing a button. To put it simply, the controller will be able to do amazing things, with amazing manueverability and ease. And all that I've said here is just a start to a whole lot more. I will later post the link that I received of this controller's capabilities, I can't get it now because these damn school computers block almost every gaming website under the sun.

So, I am now aware that maybe I was too harsh on this little guy. It has definitely made me rethink the Revo in general. I have now decided that maybe I should skip the Xbox 360...hold out for something better ....And resist from making any major purchases this Christmas. Becuase next year is looking better than ever. Like the old saying goes, good things come in small packages.
