The House that Ruth built

I am seriously thinking about buying a ticket to see the Yankees play this August.  To do this would cost serious bucks.  Plane trip and all.  Hotel room.  Food.  Ticket.  But this is the last year the House that Ruth built will stand.  I have always wanted to take a tour and see the place.

I think it is time to do some planning.

Yankees Dig Up Red Sox Jersey From Stadium
Evidently the jinx is still a major belief in the realm of professional baseball.  A construction worker working on the Yankee's new stadium buried a Boston Red Sox jersey in 2 feet of concrete in a service corridor.  The Yankees plan to donate the jersey to charity, and may pursue a lawsuit against the construction worker.  That seems a bit excessive for me, but I guess if you believe in curses, a jersey from your rival team might not be something you want buried in your stadium.

Alex Rodriguez Makes More Than The Florida Marlins
Here's some sickening news--New York Yankees third-baseman Alex Rodriguez tops the major league baseball salary list at $28 million, according to a study of contract terms by The Associated Press, making more than everyone on the Florida Marlins combined. The 33 players on the Marlins' opening-day roster and disabled list total $21.8 million.

How has society gotten to the point where a baseball player can be paid such an insane amount of money???  It's sick.

Yankees Searching for Talent

I just saw a funny story. The New York Yankees, one of the great demons of baseball, have just signed a new player to the team.

Billy Crystal.

Nope. Not kidding. Billy Crystal has signed a one-day contract with the Yankees to play with their minor league club. The contract will take place on the day before Crystal's 60th birthday. Does that make him the oldest person signed to a pro contract? I am not sure, but it has to be close. Apparently, he is a big fan of the Yankees and they have decided to reward his dedication by allowing him to play for the team.

Hmm, are they on to something? Perhaps more pro sports teams should reward fans by allowing them to play. Even if only for a day. I know that I would happily make a fool of myself for a one-day contract with my beloved Twins. I can also think of some other celebs that I would love to see in baseball pants. Russell Crowe? George Clooney? The possibilites are endless.
