Fox has announced that they will air the "final 2 episodes" of "Drive" back-to-back on July 4th. While it's good that they will be aired, nothing about this is really right.
I know it's semantics, but these are not the "final 2 episodes" of "Drive". These are the last 2 episodes that Fox paid to have made. There were 13 episodes written. These are the final 2 episodes filmed, but not the final 2 episodes of the story. That last part is the real gotcha here. These 2 episodes end in a "To be continued..." cliff-hanger. Tim Minear, creator of the show, has been very forward that this ends in a big question mark and there will be no closure to the story with these 2 episodes. If you are looking for closure, it may be better if you just don't watch.
Not watching the show might happen whether you want it to or not, because they are airing the 2 episodes on July 4th, one of the lowest rated television viewing days of the year. Barely anyone watches television on July 4th. Everyone is out enjoying barbeques, viewing fireworks, spending time with family, etc. Fox really is just burning these episodes off.
I, for one, will watch the episodes, but it's out of my almost creepy level of support for Tim Minear and Nathan Fillion. If this were some other show that had lasted just a few episodes and was burning off a cliffhanger before disappearing for good, I wouldn't even bother.
