My Surreal life: day 11
Day 11

Tonight was pretty fun; I ended up driving around Second Life in a variety of vehicles. It's amazing the types of things you can find here. After being invited to the blue room with one of the gals, another showed up. We danced a bit and then there was another. He had a car that fit four... we drove around Second Life. The guy showed of the many mods this vehicle had on it, from rocket power to a hover ability. A bit later we landed and he pulled out his Apache Helicopter.

I have no idea where these things are hidden. I guess everyone on here has a magic bag of infinite holding.

He invited me to go in the helicopter. It was pretty neat I must say, having full hover capabilities and working weapons. We ended up shooting the women we were with (Which they didn't appreciate to much.) After that he took off on a motorcycle with one and I followed the other off the edge of the roof.

On the ground I started to change in to the various costumes I received from the junkyard the day before. I have everything from the Kool-Aide man to the figure of death.

Death, it seems, even smokes a cigar. He trails a black mist behind him and his steps create a dead black spot that slowly vanishes in his wake. I can only think of how to use this avatar for telling stories using the Second Life engine. Maybe I can hone my script writing abilities....

The guy is showing me a jet he wants to buy: F-15. It costs sever thousand linden... I asked how he will get the money. He laughs and says his credit card. I hope to not have to buy the money with real money; but if some people want to do this it is no big thing. I know that people spend money on hobbies that can be as outrageous or more then in this virtual world.

The two girls have wondered off, not interested in seeing things like jets and helicopters it seems. We find them later in a building dancing, but I find I must leave again.

I am tired and must go to bed. Sleep doesn't elude me.

My surreal life day 10

 Day 10:

Tonight I log on and start flattening my land again. No one is online so I start messing with my profile; putting any information I think might be relevant to my situation in this virtual world. I take a picture of myself in my new chili shirt holding a lazer emitter I bought earlier. There was a day I flew around and found a particle laboratory (So it's called in world) that focus' on objects with particle effect. My lazer beams a tight beam in to the sky... I have no idea what I'll do with it but I like things like this.

It costs $10 Linden to upload my new picture to my profile; but I have a little bit of money so I don't mind.

Now I have to put a few places of interest. I have to go to each place (I think) to put each location on my interest list. I first hit the blue room. It describes itself as a dance and strip club..which I didn't know. I upload a pic I had taken of the dance floor the other night and put it on the list to show the blue room. I erase the strip part and just put dance club... Not sure if I want to keep this location on my list or not. The sexual over tones still bother me.

Next I go to the Elbow Room. They have a pic already when I put in in my places of Interest list. I like this place very much; they tend to play retro music from the time I grew up. No one is here right now so I head over to my next place of interest.

Yadni's Junkyard. A newbies paradise for free things. They have everything from free scripts to free vehicles. When I first visited this place I didn't realize they had so much free stuff; although that may explain where I got all my weapons from that are in my inventory. I end up going around the junkyard and uploading much of the free things that are scattered about. In the middle of this one of my friends come on and I head back to my own parcel of land.

Since no one else is on I invite her to see my small piece of property. She mentions that is is very flat and I say of course I have been working. She asks when I will build something and I tell her after I learn how to control the building area a bit more. She says she likes the music stream I have on my land and it reminds her of the Elbow Room. Of course it does, I say, I stole the feed URL from their location.

Not stole, exactly, I just went to the website mentioned on the station and plugged it in to the media section of my land controls. I really do like this station and love how you can request songs from a huge list they have.

I start going through my weapons and think of something that happened a bit ago. I ran into a goomba running around SL; he insulted Mario so I shot him with a watermelon gun. The goomba disappeared off screen... I told my friend I wanted to try something and had her stand there. I pulled out my watermelon gun and shot her.

She was a bit concerned with what happened... Apparently she was tossed half a sim away. I teleported her back and showed her the watermelon gun while giving her a copy.

After figuring out why she couldn't shoot me on my land (I had options for damage and create/edit objects turned off.) we started having an all out watermelon war.

We end up flying all over this section of Second Life launching fruit at each other. On top of a large sky scraper she sneaks up behind and and launches me half way across the sim..

I come up for breath from beneath some water and see a fine sight: A water slide. I send a teleport to my friend and we spend some time sliding down. Next to the slide is a pool and I wonder over to it. I find I can float; the waves of the pool complimenting the sounds nature that waft through the air of the sim. My friend comes over and tries the pool herself; around the side of the pull is a small sunning spot with various positions for sitting. Above it is a spot for meditation, letting the avatar go through several relating and mind expanding poses. I try this and I'm both relaxed and expanded...

I jump in to the ocean beside the pool and find a cornucopia of rainbow fish swimming around in a pool. This whole area is very relaxing and my friend comments that she wishes this were real. I do too; maybe someday I can make a real life version of this area....or something akin to it.

It's late and we both have to go to bed. It's been an interesting time in Second life today full of treasures found and watermelons launched. Things like this is what keeps me coming back.

Day 9:

Today I received an IM from one of the ladies I met last night at the Elbow Room. Then the other lady came on and both ended up inviting me to another club called the Blue Room. One of my new friends owns part of this place and both are D J's on a form of amature internet radio station.

(www.thebluecrew.com) It's an interesting place; it is as dark as space with blue lights fading in and out giving the whole room an eerie, otherworldly look. Peppered around the dance club are dance balls: One for break dancing, a couple for salsa dancing and a some more for different types... Most have to have two avatars together for them to work right. Across the radio station DJ Bunny is spinning some fat tracks as this obviously close knit group does their thing.

I'm not to fond of many of the overtly sexual themes that come across in the room and on the radio; but I find the company interesting and I do like much of the music that is playing. I yell out a request or two and they are played (Or as close as they can get them) and spend my time putting my avatar through different dance animations as I search the internet and look at the profiles of those I am surrounded with. I find that there is a feeling of loneliness behind all the outward jovial banter; I don't know if those that are with me would say the same thing, however ;)

They like my sense of humor for the most part, but there comes a time I have to depart. I leave telling them all adios as I teleport back to my own pad.

There is a cube sitting there that I made earlier. It is yellow and small. I delete it and start to flatten my land in preparation for building. I'm tired though and I say good by to the girls over IM and head to bed. I probably should start getting to bed earlier....

My Surreal Life: Day 8
I've been in contact with a man that claims to be running a ministry in SL. I think that is pretty cool; he says that there are many people coming to him talking about problems with sexual things on line. I can see how that can be a problem; things like that seem to be pretty prevalent in Second Life. Out side the Elbow room is a huge place advertising adult movies; I'm just glad many buildings are between that place and the elbow room. I have no desire to look at the gaudiness of a place like that.

I'm back at the elbow room tonight. I came home early from work and called a friend. When my phone went dead I decided to log on and see what was what.

Surprisingly there are a lot of people dancing when I get there. There is only one other male sim, the owner of the the Elbow Room himself. He remembers me from my previous time in this land, giving me a hearty 'welcome back, Random!"

For those of you that don't know my in-world name is Random. I figure it is a good name for a world like this....

I turn on the music and a start a dance routine. I notice that the creators of second life have up graded a few things on the graphic side. My point hair now sways with my body from time to time... It is more noticeable when I am flying but that is okay.

Before I came to the Elbow Room I changed from my usual dark suit in to a red chili shirt, jean jacket, and leather pants. I find it odd that I don't find it odd that I'm changing clothes in game... I guess all the years of switching out armor sets in various RPGs have me used to this idea.

I see a couple of the people dancing in time and am curious on how they do it. I learn that there is a blue ball in the corner you can click to get your sim in time with the others. Pretty soon the room looks like a big line dance or a modern version of courtly French dances. Of course there are no powdered wigs and huge hoop dresses here... At least not in this part of Second Life.

It seems all but two people in here are female...at least the sims are female. However from the comments that are flying across the room I'm pretty sure that is the case. One sim goes around making other sims fall; but it is a voluntary thing. She asks me to and I do making a joke out of it.

It comes time to leave since I need to get to bed for work tomorrow. To my surprise I get two people talking to me through instant message; one asks me to be on her friends list and the other I ask to be on her friends list.

I have teleported home when I asked the second one and find I have to teleport back to the elbow room for a minute. Adding a friend is *much* easier when you are close to the other. There must be a way to do it remotely but I don't know how at the moment. Just another thing I have to learn in SL. I might see what is happening after work tonight.

I think Mondays will start to be my official day off; right now I'm working at home with no days to just veg out. That'd be a good day to really start my building in Second Life.

I say good bye to my two new friends and log out, more ready to sleep then I'd like to admit.

My Surreal Life: Day Seven

My land sits under me; a small patch of undeveloped land in a rapidly filling sky line. I now have a s sky box floating above my land; I need to message the builder and ask them to get it out of my sky.

I need to look at my prim count (PRIM = Primitive: The basic unit for building objects in Second Life. ) and see if this box is used against me.

(Each piece of land can only have a limit number of prims. Although if you have several pieces of land that are connected together you can use all your prim count on one piece of land if you wish.)

I have discovered how to manipulate the land. I can now raise and lower the land at my will, creating hills and valley's to put what ever object I decide on building on. I now have several green textured mounds on my land.. I'm the king of the world!

Or at least my little 512 meters of virtual real estate.

I look through the ads in the "find" section of my Second Life interface. I notice a small ad advertising the Ivory Tower. It is a self guided tour on how to build things in SL. Since Teazer University doesn't have many classes when I am on I decide to take a look.

The Ivory Tower is pretty cool. It has several floors, each dealing with a different Prim type. It goes from bottom to top with the basics taught on the first floor to more advance building techniques on the top floor. The roof is devoted to a catalog, of sorts, for the floors. On each floor is a green arrow pointing up and a red arrow pointing down for easy navigation of the tower. The creator of this fine establishment uses real virtual in-world (In World = things that are a part of the Second Life world.)

I make it to the second floor before deciding to call it a night. I made sure to mark the place on my map so I can come back to it again. I'm still not sure what I'm going to build on my land but at least I am learning the skills needed to do the deed.
