Kendall and I went to see This Is It today. It was intensely moving. This planned tour of MJ's would have been incredible beyond description! Not only would it have been phenomenal entertainment, but as a show, it would have had a really significant MESSAGE behind it too.
(If you want to know what the 'message' was, go SEE the movie...I can't deliver that message with the same impact and effectiveness that MJ did...or WOULD have, if he'd had the chance.) He was such an incredibly kind, caring and gentle soul. It was almost as if perhaps, in the last few months of his life, MJ might have finally been beginning to really find himself.
It was also interesting to be reminded that this last tour was not just about MJ. There were HUNDREDS of people behind the production of this tour...costume designers and make up artists, film makers, technicians, dancers, singers, musicians. This tour would have been the opportunity and experience of a lifetime for these folks. They were all so INCREDIBLY talented and had all worked so hard. I'm glad that at least a portion of their hard work will be seen and appreciated by many through the making of this film. The world lost a true treasure when MJ passed away...much more of a treasure I think, than many people realized. This film is soooo worth seeing. It's not the kind of film that will 'blow you away' (like the actual TOUR would have been!). It was obvious to anyone who has ever seen MJ perform live that he was holding back during rehearsals...his performance intensity would have been amped up 10 times that level for the live performances. But it was still a great film to see, and a fitting farewell to a truly precious person. RIP in Michael.
