Here we have two very similar trailers for two seemingly similar movies:
PROM NIGHT, the remake of the 1980 Jamie Lee Curtis slasher classic, starts out like a lat 90's-early 00's teen movie with the kids getting for and then going to their prom. Then things take a turn for the macabre when some lunatic starts bumping off the photogenic teen revelers in order to get some alone time with our blonde heroine.
Next up is ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE wherein out gaggle of horned up teens throw a weekend kegger at a remote ranch. Things start out like any Freddi Prinze movie from 8 or 9 years ago but then all hell breaks loose and some wackjob starts bumping off the photogenic teen revelers in order to get some alone time with our blonde heroine.
So what we have here is pretty much the same movie, right? Right!
Then why does the trailer for MANDY LANE get me all geeked to see the movie while PROM NIGHT's trailer bores me to tears?
Maybe it's because the MANDY LANE trailer just looks cooler. The film is shot grittier and less polished than PROM NIGHT and the murders have a real Tobe Hooper's TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE feel to them.
But the kicker is probably how the use of the old 1960's song "Sealed With A Kiss" is used to make the proceedings feel so gotdamn creepy.
Of course my anticipation will most likely be rewarded with a movie going experience that is just as shitty as I assume PROM NIGHT will be but dammit I can't help but get excited by that trailer.

That's it from me for now cause I've got to get busy with final preparations for a nice dinner I'm planning for John and it won't be long before he's home - a friend just called to say, "John's on his way!"
It's my birthday and I know he's got something up his sleeve! I never worry or fret or get angry when he's late 'cause I know there's always a reason for it. Besides, most of the time we can honestly say we "know" what the other is thinking. If there was trouble or problems on his mind I'd know, even at a distance - but I know he's running late because he's "up to something" and it's just so cool 'cause what I'd planned for dinner will "keep" just fine until he's here! I also got the word from the same friend to plan to get together with friends this weekend so it sounds as though the full moon weekend - with a full lunar eclipse occuring and fully visible in south western Ontario is going to mark a remarkable weekend for us! And for now if I can I'll share a little light with you, I couldn't get the cake in through the wires - so sorry - but at least the light can shine! Enjoy! In Joy!
I decided to use some formal text and made this into a birthday greeting that I can send to others! What fun!
These are a couple of those little molten cakes, the one's with molten chocolate in the middle! Very tasty!
A couple of years ago my brother and his best friend, J-yella (that's my code name for him) acted in a film called Steppin, the Movie. Its a low budget film centered around black fraternaties and sororities and the tradition of "stepping". The fraternities in the movie were fictional, but people familiar with black fraternities and sororities will recognize which real organizations are represented by the fictional ones. My brother was cast as a member of Chicken Phi Alpha. All of these guys were HUGE. My brother at the time was big, but nowhere near as big as the main characters. When I asked him why they cast him in that role he answered, "shit, cuz I was fat!" His best friend, J-yella quickly replied with, "But he was the skinniest one, though!".
J-yella was cast in the role of a member of Gamma Theta Zeta. Gamma Theta Zeta is the main rival in the story so J-yella gets some pretty good screen time. Chicken Phi Alpha, my brother's fraternity is comic relief in the story. Here are some stills I took from the trailer (sshhhhh, don't tell anyone!):
Here's a pic of J-yella trying to act like a snotty frat boy. The guy holding the paddle is Chico Benymon from the television show Half and Half.
Here's another one of J-yella with his frat brothers showing off in the "yard".
Here's my baby brother in a scene of the Chicken Phi Alpha Barbeque - don't blink or you'll miss him! He assures me that you see more of him during the climax of the movie which is the big step show.
Here's another angle of him in the same scene.
Here's a clearer picture of him. (He doesn't usually have bamboo growing out of his head, though. LOL!)
