Hey, let's do some role playing.
Pretend you are a super secret government agent in the middle of a crisis. A terrorist has somehow gotten his grimy little hands on a nuclear missle, and you are trying to find him and stop him.
Meanwhile, your current significant other is working with you. The only problem is that the person is still technically married, and the husband or wife is also working with you. And to make matters worse, that husband or wife jumped in front of a bullet, saving your life. The person is now in surgery, and your significant other (even though they are seperated) is a complete wreck
Now, you get a lead on someone who may know where the missile is. As you are bringing that person back to your base, he gets shot. He needs immediate medical attention. Of course, the problem arrises that the only doctor in the base is currently working on the spouse of your significant other, who is watching on nervously.
You know that the person you are bringing in now is your only chance at finding the nuclear missile. If the missile is launched, millions of people will die. So, you make a decision. You force the doctor to stop working on the spouse and start trying to save the terrorist. You need him to be able to talk so you can get information from him. The person you love starts screaming at you. "How can you let [my spouse] die? What are you doing?" It hurts, but you hold strong.
The spouse dies. The terrorist lives. You get the information you need. You leave to attempt to stop the launching of a nuclear missile.
Your significant other hates your guts for, in essence, killing the person who saved your life.
Did you do the right thing?
