Taking down the bird feeder...

I can't take credit for this one, as a friend wrote it. But I thought it was brilliant, so I wanted to share...

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.
But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table...everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others birds were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.
After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be...quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let’s see...our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be a automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families: you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor: your child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English: Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.

Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

Absolut Insanity?

Absolut Vodka, long known for their edgy ads in newspapers and magazines around the world, is under fire for an advertisement (above) featuring a map that shows part of the modern-day United States under Mexican control.  The ad was run in Mexico, and, was actually an accurate map at one point … in the early-mid 1800s.

The company has pulled the ad, but many are calling for a boycott of the company.  Absolut probably didn’t gain many fans from the anti-immigration coalition by issuing the statement “[the ad] hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal," according to Reuters.

Of course, it wasn’t long ago that some of us in the US were calling French fries “freedom fries” because of our political differences with France.

So, was the ad simply an amusing way to woo Mexican consumers, or something that Americans should be offended by?

Manny Pacquaio beats Juan Manuel Marquez!!!
Security Level: Low (Public / Everybody / News)

Right after finishing my route for tonight, I went home immediately to watch the highly anticipated super featherweight fight between Manny "The Destroyer" Pacquaio (Philippines) vs. Juan Manuel Marquez (Mexico). Though I've been waiting for this fight for weeks, the two fighters have been waiting for FOUR YEARS since they last fought, which resulted in a draw.

I'm still a bit speechless about the fight. It was close. Way too close that I seriously thought that it was going to be another draw. But Manny Pacquaio WON!!! w0000t!!! But Marquez put up such a great fight, that it was almost a near repeat of what happened four years ago.

I need some rest. Here's the news from The Canadian Press:

Manny Pacquiao beats Juan Manuel Marquez in a sensational split decision

LAS VEGAS — Manny Pacquiao's rematch victory over Juan Manuel Marquez was worth every minute of the four-year wait.

Pacquiao won a narrow split decision to claim Marquez's WBC 130-pound title Saturday night in a sensational fight that left two of the world's best boxers bloody and triumphant.

Though Marquez landed more punches at a higher percentage, Pacquiao (46-3-2) knocked down Marquez (48-4-1) in the third round and persevered through a nasty cut. Marquez also was cut in the fight, but neither backed down from one scintillating exchange after another.

Their first matchup ended in a draw in May 2004. Marquez was knocked down three times in the opening round of that acclaimed bout, but improbably rallied to win most of the later rounds in a possible career-saving performance.

May 2004

And that meeting was just a warmup.

Judge Duane Ford favoured Pacquiao 115-112 and Jerry Roth called it 115-112 for Marquez, while Tom Miller gave a 114-113 edge to Pacquiao. The Associated Press narrowly favoured Marquez, 114-113.

But with outstanding action in nearly every round producing bloody injuries and heart-stopping moments, the fight was befitting of a matchup between two of the world's most gifted boxers.

From the opening bell, the action was fast and frenetic at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Marquez staggered Pacquiao in the second round, but Pacquiao knocked down Marquez in the third with a left hook. Pacquiao then wobbled Marquez again late in what's sure to be one of the year's best rounds, but couldn't finish off Marquez.

"I don't like the decision," Marquez said. "I still feel I am the champion. It was a bad decision. That first knockdown, he got me cold, but then I adjusted my game plan and I thought from then on, I dictated the whole fight. ... The people are the best judge, and the people are booing him. I won." Pacquiao won a major world title in his fourth weight division, and he intends to take on a fifth when he moves up to 135 pounds for his next fight against David Diaz, the WBC lightweight champion who won on Saturday's undercard

1978: Clandestine Operation of Argentine Military Intelligence in Mexico

January 20, 2008 - Documents published today by the National Security Archive reveal that Mexico’s secret service captured a squad of Argentine military intelligence operatives and expelled them for spying on [exiled rebel] Montoneros living in Mexico" in January 1978. At the time, the Mexican press denounced the presence of foreigners attempting to target and assassinate the leadership of the Argentine Montonero insurgents. Today, the documents of the now dismantled Mexican Federal Security Directorate confirm that agents of Intelligence Area 121 in Rosario, Argentina, "were sent [to Mexico] by the authorities in their country."

I Want To Be Warm ..... And Stay Warm
With the onset of winter I am once again reminded how much I hate the freaking cold.

A couple months ago I started doing a little investigating here and there .... looking for somewhere warm to go .... to live .... once my stint here in hell is done.  Which probably won't be anytime soon but I'm going to start to prepare just the same.

So last night I came to my conclusion .... Mexico it is.  We have a few friends that have moved south to retire for obvious reasons .... and after looking at homes in a few towns along the coast it is the only thing that makes sense for me. Dave is almost open to the idea .... but that doesn't even matter.  I'm going and nothing will stop me.

My goal is to spend this summer on the claim .... and I am shooting for a specific number of ounces .... and if that is reached .... a trip will be in order.  If it takes two summers to raise the money I need to flat out buy a home there then I'm cool with that too.  Thing is .... I know that kind of gold is there .... we just need to live there and work it .... daily .... period .... and that is what we plan to do.  As soon as we know the snow is done flying for good .... you will find me there.

So ... that is where my head is .... finishing a knitting project (hummm, what could that be?) and being warm in Mexico ..... sipping a margarita on the beach or in my own tropical garden patio or on the roof terrace .... ****heavy sigh****

Never hurts to dream ....

Peace.  J.
