The official Perry van Wesel review on the Formula 1 season 2005

Yes, it's done. And what a season it was, fantastic. Better then 2004, so how to review then? Simple name a few things and name what belong there. But first things first, who won what?

Fernando Alonso became worldchampion for the drivers won seven races including the last one in China.

Renault became worldchampion for the constructors with Alonso and Fisichella and stayed in front of McLaren.

Kimi Raikkonen became 2nd in the worldchampionship because of a lot of bad luck.

Michael Schumacher became 3rd in the worldchampionship because he won the GP of USA, the one where the Michelin-teams retired, because of failing tyres.

Ok, that's for the podium. Now the 'awards'

Best driver: Fernando Alonso

He stayed cool during all races. Made a small mistake in Canada, but Raikkonen could never close the gap. He deserves to be champion

Best team: McLaren

Never they lost the will to win. Even with a whole lot of bad luck. In China losing of the championship was bad, but not to bad. McLaren won more races then Renault.

Best rookie: Robert Doornbos

A Dutchman, but that's not the reason. He got in the Minardi half past the season, but he could fight the Jordans and teammate Christijan Albers. Altough Monteiro got more points, the results of Doornbos were impressive.

Best race: GP of Japan

Only a week ago, but lot's of overtaking manouevres and the winner changed on the last lap. What do you need more? Crashes? Also there. Montoya crashed and Sato rammed Trulli of. Absolutly race of the year

Biggest dissapointment: Williams

What happened with the once proud champions? They were that good. And with Mark Webber and Nick Heidfeld they had a great driver-pair, but yet the car was bad. BMW left the team. The main-sponsor left. Hope this isn't the end of Williams?

Biggest failure: US GP

Well failure. But still, this is the deepest end Formula 1 could get too. Ralf Schumacher (Toyota) crashed on Friday because of a puncture. Minutes later teammate Ricardo Zonta happened the same with his Michelin-tires. Michelin started an investigation and concluded that the tires weren't good. They asked the FIA to change the fastest corner. The FIA didn't do it. So right after the warm-up lap every Michelin-car went inside, leaving six cars. Michael Schumacher, Barrichello, Monteiro, Karthikeyan, Albers and Friesacher. Ofcourse Ferrari won, but the fans were mad, threw bottles on the track. No-one smiled, except Monteiro who scored a podium. And he should be. After all it's Michelin's fault.

Most bad luck: Kimi Raikkonen

Raikkonen would have been champion, if his car didn't retire so much. Most noting are the both Grand Prix' in Germany. On Hockenheim his motor failed while he was leading. And on the Nurnburgring he crashed heavily on the last lap...while leading.

Biggest crash: Kimi Raikkonen during the Europe GP.

Last lap of Kimi Raikkonen on the Nurnburgring and he had flat-spots on his tires. And then his suspension went klabam!!. With like 300 kilometers per hour he flew off, nearly missed Button. That's was like very heavy

And well that's about it. For next season it's exciting. Four teams leaving the field. BAR, Sauber, Jordan en Minardi. BAR becomes Honda. Sauber becomes BMW. Jordan becomes Midland. Minardi becomes Squarda Toro Roso. That's the junior-team from Red Bull Racing. He have to say goodbye to people like Peter Sauber and Paul Stoddart. Especially Stoddart will be missed. But there are also new things coming. A Cosworth-motor to Williams. Will it give Webber the success? And who will sit next to him? Or will he trade with Fisichella? And Massa in the Ferrari, is that the good choice? And Barrichello, what's he gonna do at the new Honda-team? I think we will have an exciting year again, with a suprising champion and good fights.

It ofcourse is all personal opinion what I wrote down here. So don't attack me. Beside that there is also coming  such a review for the cycling-season, with maybe some suprises!
