Long Drive @ MindSay
This is sort of a different take on a poem xRainbows4eveRx did several weeks back.
Drive
When life is young and full of sun
and it’s joy to be alive
the road stretches out forever and always
and a pleasure is the drive.
Exits here and exits there
you take some just to see
if the people will be friendly
and it’s how it’s s’posed to be.
Get off, get on, see what is what
Under the sky of blue
hopefully you find someone
who’s company for you.
And you keep on going, never knowing
the light is beginning to fade
and the miles are starting to slip by faster
and you’re approaching a down grade.
And things go bad; and don’t get fixed
and eventually a shock
you can’t believe where time has gone
when you look at the clock.
Now the light has gone; it’s dark outside
as dark as fresh-made tar
and you realize the half-way point’s past
but you don’t know how far.
The exits now are few and far
between, but what the hey
you don’t have the energy left
to take them anyway.
The seat beside you’s empty now
it chills you to the bone
but it’s too late to start over
you’ll complete your trip alone.
You keep on going, no longer knowing
just what’s the point or why
all you know for sure is that
the road keeps slipping by.
You go past the empty miles with a sickly little smile
you sigh and shift, and keep on going
wishing you could just pull over
in the darkness that is growing.
But however uselessly you keep on
as long as you remain alive
on the road to nowhere that ends at your end
you just keep on with the drive.
[Yeah, happy happy joy joy, this is why I hate birthdays.]
Every year, I've gone to this with a different person. Every year, oddly, the seats have gotten better.
I WAS TWENTY FEET AWAY FROM ANNA PHOEBE!!
Ahem. I rather happen to admire a certain London violinist.
Last concert of this year's tour. Of course, it is in a city about five hours away from mine. Rogue lives about ten minutes away, and elected to drive, which was both kind and wise of him - my car, Rachel, is a little bit of a personality lately.
He claimed that he needed to drive the whole way, because next week he's driving some friends to Madison, and needs to know that he can do it. Privately, I'm thinking, "So, why don't I just take the road after Madison?" but whatever. Really, he just wants to be able to listen to his music the whole way in.
Let it be noted that, despite the fact that we are going to a concert for a sort of music that we both very much enjoy, on average, our music tastes do not match. It's not that I can't stand his music - rather that neither of us have any cds that match the other's. I amend that - for some reason, we're both into Meat Loaf. More rock operas, of course - which happens to be the genre of what we're attending.
I really can't say much about the concert, simply because it was too cool to properly describe. Definitely wished that Knuter and I could have gone together (on a separate date - Rogue made it quite clear that this was our thing, and he didn't want to share it - which I can understand), and was rather aware that I may not be able to see them again for quite some time.
Talked with Rogue quite a bit on the way there. We wandered around the city later - I hadn't eaten for awhile, and we've found that when I don't for more than six hours of waking-time, I get a little weird. He nearly threw me into a snowbank for my plaintiveness when I found that Burger King was closed, and I'd just wanted a strawberry milkshake. Which, of course, since it's Rogue, I wouldn't shut up about.
There's something in him that brings something out in me. Most of the time, I'm rather sedate or goofy, ironic or happy, mature or innocent. Around him, the attitude reigns full, the mischief is at the surface, and while I'm still rather philosophical, I'm usually conversing from, literally, off the beaten path. I don't think it'd be as common if he didn't enjoy bossing me around so much, or if I didn't derive so much pleasure from ignoring orders. :P
I now think of the place as, "Wisconsin - Land of the Fog." Generally, I'm fine with late-night driving. But when all you've got to see is fog and highway lines, it doesn't work so well. I can usually be noting signs along the way, trees, quirky landmarks, whatever. Nope. If you've heard of Desert Bus, this'd be the Midwestern variation. Hours and hours of milky soup and highway lines. I should have lasted the whole way home (we left a little after midnight), but after two and a half hours, I had to let Rogue take over.
He gives me grief, claiming that I gave him the longer part of the trip. Now, by the GPS (Claire), we had two hours left when I abdicated the driver's seat. I am not to blame for him driving intelligently in the fog, and thus making that turn into 2:40. I got into bed at six, he got into bed at 6:30.
I'm hoping it's something from the Army that gives him the ability to be as perky as he was when he came by today to hang out. I woke up in time to run into town for a meeting at 1400, then came back home, slept until I had another meeting at 1900. For that, I got as far as our town traffic lights before deciding that what'd moved in over our area was worse than Wisconsin's, and I had no business driving.
But. Amazing concert. And it's kind of satisfying to catch the last one of the season.
Until next year! Or, until I'm back home and able to do this again. :D
So...
Dad can't drive.
Yesterday, I had to drive him to Tiffin, and we were at the doctors office for 4 hours.
Way too long. And the doctor was hitting on me. Ewww...
I was like a whole foot taller that him too...
Ick.
He does have money though... J/K!!!
So I'm kinda playing the dating field right now.
Nothing serious. I do have one dating interest.
Alec Stansberry's sister died. Don't know either of them really well. I feel bad though.
It's weird the way Upper Sandusky deals with grief. Abby's obituary will probably be on the front page, or at least huge on the second page of the news paper. Its like it s everyones daughter that died, and everyone cares. I love how much everyone cares. I always want to live in a small town.
I almost died today.
I was on new 30 going home, and there was a semi with a wide load behind me. And I had to turn soon. This truck was going way too fast. I was going 60 and he was gaining on me. And I had to turn. AS soon AS I turn into the road, he goes zooming behind me. GAHHH!!
I about died...
O..BTW.
Txt bill from last month is 118 dollars.
I have to pay my abuela for that. OOps.
Well Ciao,
Mariah
P.S.
FFA camp is next week! YAY!
Heyy
Well this week was interesting. So busy. Especailly thursday. I went to school, went to wrestling and then instead of goin home I had to go to the CLE grounds (Canadaing Lakehead Exibiton grounds) to the Collesium (its a name of 1 of the many buildings) to volunteer to help with bingo, the bingo raises money for westgates school band (and we need more people volunteering from band!!) .It was sweet. You've never seen bingo until you've seen 98 (mostly) seniors play for 4 and a half hours. Its crazy the amount of money that they spend!!! Myy mom and I both made 200$!!!...haha funny story, this lady I overheard her and her friend deciding if they were gonna go to the casino after bingo...turns out the lady won the jackpot of 1000$!
Anyways, Im so happy...on thursday my dad gave me a check of 120$ to give to my wrestling couch so that I can go to Saul St Marie (for those who dotn know its prounced "sue saint mary") for a wrestling tournament! The 120 is for hotel and gas for the van...dad said that if he pays for that then I pay for my food... On december 1st we leave the school at like 10 (we dont even go to first period) and then drive the 8 hours to the Sault and then I guess we get there and have the rest of the day to do w/e. Then on the 2nd We wrestle...Not sure what time I guess it ends 4ish and then we almost immediatly drive home...we'd end up getting in around 1:30 am-ish on the 3rd :O gonna be crazy. I think only 3 girls are going :| and like we can bring 16 people...3 girls and 13 guys:| ahhh haha.
:D So today is the senior football finals game. Westgate vs. Hammorsklod (sp?). Westgate juniors final game was on tuesday, it was Westgate vs. Hammorsklod (sp?) aswell...and guess who won? WESTGATE!!!:D. 22-20 was the score i beleive. Ha in soemones nic on MSN "Westgate Tigers have a strict diet of Hamm." hah if you dont get that your terrible :P. So GO TIGERS!!!
Anyways i gotta go find out if dad can drive annie and I to the game. I'll see yea later,
Miller
We left Scotland yesterday. Helluva long drive. We must have covered 400 miles in one day.
Sorry that I have no pictures at the moment. I've been way too tired to ask my dad to transfer them from the camera to the laptop. Be aware, however, that they DO exist and I'll wrap up Scotland with photos as soon as possible.
Right now I'm in the Irish town of Kinsale, which is about 15 miles from Cork. The first half of our long drive yesterday took us to Wales. The roadsigns are all bilingual. It's awesome. Thankfully I'm not driving. We were barreling down the highway at 120 kph and having to decide between several exits that are all vowel-defficient. I really pity my parents sometimes.
From the Welsh town of Hollyhead, we took the ferry to Dublin. The ferry was incredible. The ferry was more like a cruise ship, except cruise ships don't go as fast as your car. The ferry was a catamaran, and I swear it was jet powered. It didn't sway a single bit despite being out in the open ocean. It was of course incredibly expensive, but very nice nonetheless.
A bit of advice, avoid Dublin if travelling by car. It took us an hour to move five miles out of the ferry dock. Then, we made it to the freeway and took just as long to move three miles. We took an exit and took half an hour just to reach a gas station. I'm sure Dublin is a very cool place, but it's also a little too dense.
The drive to Kinsale was a bit nicer. It was almost the same distance as the run from Scotland to Wales (6 A.M. to 1 P.M.), but it was faster, thanks to the lack of speed cameras, cops, and other cars once out of the city. The speed limit must have been up near 80 mph in some areas. Our little Renault performed quite well. We got in at about 10 P.M. ish.
Our diet on this trip has mostly consisted of fried food. Fun . . . for the first day. That's the problem with siblings, they have a powerful influence over tired parents when it comes to choosing food. Fortunately, we went to a real grocery store and brought home all the sugar-snap peas you can imagine. It felt sooo good to eat real vegetables on this trip.
Also concerning diets, my parents have really enjoyed all the local brews. And, even a thimblefull of Scotch Whiskey really burns the throat. The taste is somewhat interesting but my lasting memory is the burning thing.
