YATB ::: Yet another teacher's blog
It is nice to know and work with competent teachers. It is much more fun if the teacher is young and dynamic. ATUL NEGI is a teacher fromHyderabad University, currently wit Priyatama Instt., Indore. Atul and me have many things in common (except the grey beard) :: he teaches CS, he is a great fan of Linux, he is active with IEEE. So if you visit my blog, like you have done just now, you would of course enjoy Atuls'blog too: http://indorecomputing.blogspot.com/ Visit hime today and leave a note in his blog. You wont regret that.

Fugly McNugget is back with attitude
So the McNugget blogs again. Has it really been that long? Well a lot has happened and I won't even go into it. Basically I can sum it up as, people suck (not all but a lot of em) and computers suck. People and computers. Ain't that a kick in the ass - I can't win either way, human or machine. Animals are better, but mine tend to crap all the time and I'm always cleaning up shit, whether figuratively with humans and computers or with the physical crap lovingly created by animals. I wake up and feel like I'm in the Osbournes reality show. I smell coffee brewing along with the aroma of dog poo. The dog was housebroken til he got old, now he can't get up quick enough to go outside and the morning routine is often picking up dog crap, washing his blanket and getting ready to do it all over again the next day. But I digress....
My beautiful install of Ubuntu Linux is now gone because of a faulty fucking hard drive I installed it on. All the work I did the past two days is gone. I will never get those days back and the one thing I hate more than anything in God's universe is doing the same shit over and over and over. So I can't go out or get any actual "work" done today, I have to sit in my office and do a complete reinstall and tweak everything back to how I had it when it all worked perfectly. Most of my programs from winxp can be used on Linux, which is a fantastic OS until the hard drive ruined everything. My xp runs on 3.2gig dual core so that fucker had best not slow down or die. I hear Micro isn't going to support xp anymore and the hell if I'm going to Vista if I can help it. As it is, I have nearly everything I need on Linux Ubuntu now, with exception of a few web authoring programs that are made for xp. Even then, it depends what language they were written in, as a lot of things made for xp can be installed on Linux. The fucking clincher is that the stable OS, Linux got installed on a faulty Hard drive. The crash was hardware related, not software. I guess it's better Linux was destroyed because all of their FREE programs are simply downloaded again....Windows bullshit? HA!!! Swish, other programs all want a new reg-key, and it depends what jackass company you deal with--some will automatically send you a new reg-key license because they have you on file as having PAID for the software. Another like Moyea video FLV converter? If your computer crashes and you have no reg-key, it's fuck you Charley - buy it again. Nope, I'm a Linux girl now, I'll find me a freebie.
So my stupid point in this rant is: Computers will always suck, pen and paper will always be superior for anything other than web authoring or things you actually NEED a computer for. Linux is reliable unless you put it on a sloppily made mass produced lemon of a hard drive.
At this point, I, the reluctant she-geek who would rather be outdoors, has 6 computers total, 5 in win xp, 1 HD on the big machine running Linux and then there's my MacBook laptop. Windows, Linux, Apple... I speak all three...now if I learned to speak Klingon I'd be a geek's wet dream.
Anyhow, I have to go fix things.....AGAIN. Fugly is one pissed off Nugget today.

Another pointless animation
My first foray into advertising.
It's for a good cause...
It's for a good cause...
Standing by the well, wishing for the rains...
Reaching for the clouds, for nothing else remains
Drifting in a daze, when evening will be done
Try looking through a haze
At an empty house, in the cold, cold sun...
Ah, the joys of mobile computing! How I do enjoy being free from my desk and out in the world where I can write all that is to be written...
For the curious geeks of the world, after all the testing of various operating systems (actually different flavors of Linux) I have finally reached a point where I am satisfied with what I have to work with. I suppose I should say that I'm as satisfied as I can be being that this laptop is almost ten years old and I am not going to put any money into it. I have gone to the minimalist line of thought for a number of reasons, but mainly because of the money issue and I'm not going to buy a Linux compatible WiFi card. I suppose if there is anyone out there who wishes to give me one, I will change my thought processes on this. Being that I just need this to write at the moment, I can save everything to my hard drive and reboot to Windows to upload it. This set up offers a few advantages from a faster boot to longer battery life to faster loading of documents - battery life is the major reason and one that I never expected. For the ÜberCurious, I now run NimbleX - the 69mb version - for all my writing. Ew, it's freakin' fast compared to the Windows 98 version of this laptop...
In the news of the world, it is dark outside, warm with like about 175% humidity, and a chance of storms. And the chance of storms has me in the mood to write all that I need to write even if what I need to write is nothing of importance. I am hoping that the storm will be intense, but I have a feeling the spectacular storm was this morning when the power was knocked out for a while. And I know that somewhere on the opposite side of the valley there is a tree that shows the scars of a bolt of lightening...
And this reminds me of the night at work that an intense storm knocked the power out for a few hours. In the midst of the power outage when no work could be done, most of the shift was sitting in the break room just watching the storm when there was a flash that lit the entire parking lot and a crack so loud that it shook the entire building. When the storm had passed and the power was returned, we went out to survey the damage the storm had wrought upon the world. The first thing that was noticeable was the fact that the parking lot and the cars therein were covered with what looked like wood chips. Upon further investigation, the source of the wood chips was found to be a tree that once stood upon a small hill that overlooked the parking, and it was concluded that this tree had been hit by a bolt of lightening so strong that most of its trunk had exploded into a million small fragments that were deposited across all that could be seen. Lo, the tree did die well...
And such are those types of things with trees...
This is the Word of the AntiCrust...
