Bear’s Lesson

I want to tell you about the Bear.  He was, and to me still is, all that is pure and admirable about being a cop.  I was assigned to him during the summer of ’69, and my five months with him left me so in awe, so touched and troubled, that I still often think of him.

The bear flew to the scene of an incident like an avenging angel.  His small thick hands grasped the wheel so tightly in anger that I actually feared for the life of the unknown suspect at the other end of the ride.  No red lights or siren; just a gut-wrenching wide-open acceleration born of Bear’s fury.  I was nervous with this field training officer, who was known to all as Bear – or THE Bear to those who were perpetually in wonder of him, as I certainly was.  I stole a glance at him as we throttled around the corner, a block away from our assigned location, and involuntarily shivered at the sight.  A 220-pound, five feet, eight-inch body swathed in blue material, harnessed by a gunbelt partially obscured in fat, topped by an undersized head sporting a marine-style crewcut.  A bear indeed, with an animal-like anger to match.  He scared me then, for he looked so formidable.  But this was before I came to know him.  And it was before his final bout with evil.

Kink
Conversations that happened within 10 minutes of each other tonight:

about the bookmark I just made Mike:
Emily:  It's called Contact Paper (the stuff you laminate with)
Georgie:  That sounds so kinky!

10 minutes later, about her massage chair that I've never sat in:
Georgie:  It's like a big vibrator all of your body
Emily:  (pause)  THAT'S kinky.

*kinda bi-polar, but today she's been the fun roommate I've loved for 6 months.  Awesome.

In other cool news, Mike was here earlier before fire inspection, and he was like 'you gonna be around tomororw? I have a Valentine's day gift to give you' (unfortunately, not the way you're thinking, AWWWW EMILY, A BOY FOR YOU! FINALLY!) and I was like, oh, that's silly.  And then while he was out, I decided to make his favorite song, "Day Man" (look it up on youtube, it's always sunny in Philadelphia) into a  double-sided bookmark (hence the convo about contact paper), and he came back to get his bag and I gave it to him and apparently, that was pretty much the present he had for me.  Not a bookmark, but it's something about DayMan/NightMan.  At least we're sharing a brain?  At least we love each other that much that we make one another the same present?

Now I gotta make him a sweet card that is about  me clinging to him like cellophane....<3

*Okay, I'll be nice.  Go HERE:  http://youtube.com/watch?v=pCDMQvHtV9Q

Tomorrow... a new school!
A Midsummernight's Dream.JPG hosted for free by ImageShack

Well, Friday was my last day working at Feurs. Tomorrow I'm going to a new high-school, and meeting new classes, new pupils. I can't wait because I like working in high schools, with older pupils, I find the job more interesting and physically less tiring. I've prepared a lesson on John Bacon's illustration of A Midsummernight's Dream by Shakespeare, and I should be using PowerPoint. I can't wait to see if this is going to work!

What is more, it is only a 20-minute drive, whereas I had to drive an hour and a half to and back everyday to go to Feurs. So, I’m really glad!
