Hooray! October is here. I have a new layout for you too. :D
This past weekend was fun. It's funny how the universe will give you the opportunity to have what you want.
I've been lusting after a datsun/nissan 240 or 280z. On Saturday I found a listing for one that was only 30 minutes away from me. The price was nice for $1490 so I had to go and see it. I called Sunday morning leaving a message saying I was interested in seeing it hopefully that day. Later on he called back and said it was fine.
Josh and I drove on down(with a blank check) not letting our hopes get the better of us. We found the old impressive stone home with no problems. Knocking on the door the apprehension and nervousness almost got to me. A man who had a striking resemblance to Ol' Doc Brown greeted us and began to tell us the history of the car but often deviated to other stories.
We met with a much worn 280z in the garage. He tried to start it and continued on with his stories. Josh looked it over carefully. Soon we asked to talk it over and the wild white haired man happily obliged but before he left he added: "I'll take $1000 for it. I just want it out of here and to someone local." We hadn't even spoke of price yet.
Josh looked at me after he was out of sight and shook his head solemnly. I felt my heart sink a little but I understood. I wanted one that didn't need too much work and this one was for someone willing to totally restore it.
Once again I felt nervous as we knocked on the door and the now vodka smelling man meeted us. Walking to the garage with a few more stories he then asked us what was our decision.
You never know how someone will react when you tell them that it isn't what you are looking for.
He understood and said he would try Ebay if no one else came forward. We also assured him that he surely could get at least $3000 on there for this vehichle. (I know it a fact) :P We shook hands after a while of gabbing then parted ways.
It was a very nice experience even though the car wasn't for me. Hopefully someone else can take the time and restore it to what it can be. Great once again.
(On a side note I'm sure I could have asked him for the car at about $500 and he most likely would have agreed. No matter how badly I want one I want to be able to enjoy it and not see it sit in my yard for a few years till that happens.)
I will get my 240/280z eventually. Hopefully soon but I will be patient. I know that fate/the universe will bring me another... someday. Yeah, someday. *happy sigh*
For a GREAT laugh here is the Special 10 year Edition Black Gold commercial. Ahh perms, the STACHE, innuendos, disco & a blondie look alike.
