Dreams - Scary....ish......

I had a dream about zombies last night. It was very Dawn of the Dead style. I'd gone up to Sydney for some reason in my dream and was in a house with some randoms. We were all friends, but we didn't directly know each other. I'd driven my car up, my littel red Suzuki Serria and it was night when it all happened. The whole, dead are walking the earth thing started. I remember trying to get back to Canberra to make sure everyone was okay. There was minimal traffic of course, most people seemed to drive carefully as if you stopped, that's when they could get you. I remember driving for hours, I wasn't in my car though, it'd been destroyed whilst trying to escape where I was staying.

I remember coming to a bridge that was out. It was a main bridge, with a railway track on one side and road on the other. The whole thing was gone, and just a drop remained. I remember seeing a memorial type shrine which I got ut of the car too look at. There was necklace of beads, some cans of drink and various other items that looked like they had been left in the hope friends would find them. I remember taking the beads for some reason, even though they weren't mine, and the cans of drink. I got back in the car I was driving and I didn't know where to go. I started to reverse and ended up getting attacked by a zombie with an axe. He put it through the passenger side window before I floored it.

I woke up suddenly after to an erie silence in the house. That creeped me out quite thourghly.

And now Land of the Dead is on Foxtel... so I might go watch it...

horror

Horror is not zombies feasting on human flesh in Land of the Dead.

The real horror isn't in the realms of fantasy where once bitten you become a mindless walking corpse on the hunt for warm human flesh, but in the poorest parts of China where life is cheap.  I heard a missionary named Donald talk about his work there and it was utterly heartbreaking.  Most of us have comfy lives and complain about the littlest things when there are people out there in the world just struggling to survive.

Babies are thrown out with the garbage and found in tips because they have deformities or are disabled in some way.  A state orphanage had children tied to chairs the whole day with holes cut in their pants, and holes cut in the seat of the chairs so if they needed to go to the toilet, they were already in one.  It was only at night that they were put to bed.  In the back there was a dark little room called The Dying Room where kids drew their last breaths.  Donald held onto the hand of a five-year-old boy who was nothing but skin and bones and wondered what this boy ever had to live for.

This particular orphanage has since been transformed with proper help and care, but the babies are still dumped in the tip and on their doorstep.  One -25C day, a little boy was found on the doorstep of the orphanage, his face frostbitten.  There was a swelling tumour in his face that continued to swell so much that his eye popped out of its socket.  When consulted in a hospital, there was nothing the doctors could do.  If they took the tumour out, the boy would have a hole in his face.  So all they could do was keep him comfortable until the day he died.

When you think you're having a bad day, think of these children and Thank God for how lucky you are.

Its 5AM, perfect time for an entry....

Its early, I cant sleep, so, its bloggin time. Checked out the flick
"The Rules of Attraction" several hours ago, and it was my kind of
crazy. The new Foo Fighters record is a great record. Conan O'Brien is
the shit. The second episode of the second season of Resuce Me is on
tonight, happy day. I'm watching "The Fisher King" today, tis directed
by Terry Gilliam, the same cat that brought you great mindfucks like
"12 Monkeys" and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", so I'm expecting
good times. The new Batman movie is the best of the franchise, and the
best movie this year. My cousin graduated high school and had his party
this past saturday, fucker made three thousand dollars off that shit,
FUCKING A. The Twins won, wow. At 3 am there Girls Gone Wild
infomercials running on five channels back to back to back to back to
back consistantly for like 4 hours, what the hell? Its early, i'd like
to get to bed before the sun gets up, by my judge i've got an hour.
Slayer is kickass, and Spirit in Black (a Slayer song) is the most
played on my IPOD at the moment. The TV people BLOW, its five am, i've
trying to watch the news, you know the drill, suicide bombings, folks
aint happy about how Bush is fucking up the war, Tom Cruise loves Katie
Holmes and is insane, the usual, but some body insists on running that
*test*, you know, "the following is a monthly issued test of the
national broadcast system" which is then followed by
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHKLFGHAFHGLDFHKAKRHAD;LFGHA;DLFHGSDFH;DHFA;DFHJ, which
is the sound of hell itself escaping from the speakers of your very
television set.Normally I dont mind, problem is, they've done it four times
now...."War of the Worlds" better kickass, hopefully Tom's recent
shenanigans wont deminish it. "Batman Begins" was number one at the box
office again, and deservedly so. I saw "Land of the Dead", which was
number five at the boxoffice, and deservedly so (dont get me wrong, not
a bad movie really, but I was just expecting alot more...). Nip/Tuck
returns in Septmeber. Rumors are that Slayer could have a record out by the end of the summer, RUMORS. I've ran out of things to say, no, thats not it, I'm TIRED, thats it. I'll be back later today....or tonight, I wanna throw down a whole post on Rescue Me...

The thought-out thoughts
I think I have finally formulated my thoughts on “Land of the Dead”.

Eh.

I will own this movie on DVD and I will probably watch it over and over again my self.  I will probably not chalk it up as one of the great zombie movies.  It does something different and that I'm proud of.  I like it when people take a chance.  I enjoyed the “fun” zombies.  I enjoyed watching the main zombie finally get to pump some gas.  It was kind of crazy to care for a zombie and not care for some of the humans.

In fact, that was the strangest thing about this movie.  In other Romero zombie-movies, the reason the zombies “win” is because the living can't seem to work together.  It is instinct vs. the flaws of human nature.  Zombies don't care what other zombies look like.  They don't care who else is around them.  They just want to eat flesh.  Humans can think, because of this they should be able to take out lots of zombies.  The problem is thinking also leads to racists, power-trippers, hurt feelings, love, hate and numerous other things.  These things lead people to stop working together and start being eaten.  So the strangest thing was that the “living” in this movie were nasty people.  Granted the main people were nice, but the movie was filled with nasty, nasty “thinkers”.  You ended up caring more for the main zombie then most of the people in the film.  I can't say that was by accident.

I'm sure that is what Romero was going for.  While his other films focus on a small number of humans not being able to work together, this one shows how god awful we can be when we actually create a society.  Instead of dealing with the threat of the dead, “thinkers” ignore it by pushing it outside of their walls, then try to create the world that once was.

I wanted to see people working together... instead it look like an extreme over-the-top example of the society we have now.  I wonder who's vision is more honest?  Mine or Romero's?

So I give Romero credit... he made a good “social commentary with zombies” movie...

but... if I wanted to watch an actual zombie movie, I would watch “Shaun of the Dead” or “28 days later”.

eh

(no subject)

let's see... i woke up, cleaned, did some laundry, read some hgg, and visited mom while she was working at the townhouse. i only went to drop off one of my uncles, but he insisted that i come inside as well. i always feel a little weird after going there. it's a nice place and everything, but i just try not to go there too often. i dunno though, sometimes i think i've learned to control my feelings so well that i can no longer distinguish between real feelings and feelings i've forced upon myself.

then left at around 4:15 to go see land of the dead with phillip, rachel, lucas, hunter, will, edna, and edna's brother (i don't know his name). it was a both a funny and scary-ish movie. i jumped a few times, i admit, but not as much as rachel. hehe, it was so funny, rachel grabbed phillip when she got scared. and she said she was covering her eyes for a lot of the movie. we were all making fun of her. there were lots of gory parts too. a lot of it was just funny. then we went to a restaurant called sam's. and i'm pretty proud of myself, i didn't get lost. for a change. phillip can attest to that. woo! first time i've been there, pretty good food. i had this big chicken burrito. yummy! but i still couldn't finish it. i got about halfway through. brought the rest home, but i don't know how good it'll be tomorrow. we'll see. hehe, it was also funny when we made fun of will for being whipped. wi-ch! <-- the best i can do spelling out the whipped sound. anyways, i left early, while the rest went to lucas' house to watch team america. all in all, lots of fun. i also got to wear my yellow shoes. yippee :)
