Something fishy going on...
I love Buddy's scales and vivid colors. It reminds me of armor.

A random self portrait.

Buddy is about 15 or more inches long and has quite the personality.

You thought you might get away without a cat picture huh? Dudley sure is hard to photograph because he is always moving around and his long black fur hides him well.

Blub blub blub.

I took this one with the mirror.
Well I must go and make some sandwiches for Josh's lunch. Tah tah for now!

Yay for more pictures!

And just for fun I did a little Meme over at DA. I think some of you may get a kick out of it. It was, like, totally finger cramping jubilations! (dont forget to see it in full size)

He's the last man standing on the track...
I have a lot of kitten pictures to share from Thanksgiving. I know it's late but I finally got to uploading all the images on my camera. Yay!

Tomorrow I will share the pictures from Savannah's birthday. :D

Busy.
We sure did a lot since the last time I blogged. I'll break up the pictures for today, tomorrow and possibly the next day.
Let's begin with one happy occasion! There has been a pretty gray stray kitty hanging around our house most of the summer. She looks very young and probably isn't even a year old. She was such a sweety!! It was agreed unanimously in our household that we should take her in. Here's the catch...she's pregnant.
We took her to the vet on Wednesday and gave her the preventive measures needed until she has her kittens.
On Thursday she began to hide in nooks and became very irritable with the other kitties. I knew that she was ready to have her kittens soon so I set up a "nest" in Leif's closet since it was private, quiet and no kitty really went in there. I set down an old blanket, heating pad and towel. I brought her to the closet and immediately she went in, lay down and began pawing the air happily on her back with a loud purr. I knew it was a hit and she would choose to have her kittens there. (At least I hoped)
On Friday Savannah had a few friends over for a sleepover. They were noisy and rambunctious. It was fun. I kept an eye on our newest addition and knew the time grew closer due to her new restlessness & sudden lethargy combination. Savannah was very excited because she had never seen a cat or anything give birth before.
Saturday was a busy day for us. We went to a friend's party for his son. The celebration was for his one year celebration of off treatment. His son was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor called AT/RT in 2006.
Then later that day we went to the Rotary Gardens for a "halloween walk". (Pictures to come soon)
When we got home Josh and I were about to go for a drive when Josh went and checked on the kitty. Sure enough she was in labor and just had one kitten!

After an hour she had two more kittens. The second one looked very similar to the first one.

The third took a little longer to be born. When it was born it squirmed and fought to breath. I was worried because it wasn't breathing for the first minute. I watched carefully and ready to intervene in case the Mama didn't do more. I sighed in relief when I saw his little chest rise and fall for the first time and let out a squeal. It's first sound ever! (We nicknamed that one Scrapper). ;)

When they are old enough we will be giving them away. We will make sure they all have their shots and all that is needed to go to a good home. I'm pretty sure we wont have a problem finding homes for them. :D
So many cute kitten photos are to come as they grow.

Cats didn't Fall
Why does my little kitty have to be sick?
I understand the concept that there wasn't illness or pain or anything nasty like that in Eden's Garden (though part of me kinda wonders what would have happened if they'd been left there longer). Sickness, labor pains, thornbushes, and nasty insects with stingers all came about after the Fall, theologically speaking, yes? Meant to kinda make a point about what life without God was like, yearning for a world better than this one, etc.
But why does my kitty have to be sick?
I would understand the concept that a thornbush or some nasty insect or something else that came about to torment people accidentally snared my kitty-cat. But this is apparently a genetic condition. Which makes no sense to me.
He's so good about it, too. He hates his treatment, doesn't like having stuff in his eyes, and gets totally bummed about his E-collar, which messes up all of his senses. Can't move his ears in thirty-two separate directions. Air doesn't carry past his nose the way it's supposed to. Tunnel vision, can't really move his head. Whiskers completely thrown off. Sad kitty.
Dad thinks he knows it's good for him, and that's why he behaves himself so well. He doesn't really fight when you're giving him his meds, aside from the reflexes anyone would have if someone else was messing with their eyes. And he usually just wants to curl up with you and try to sleep until all this is over. He's so good. He even purrs when you pick him up, even though you're the one who gave him the meds last time.
I don't understand why the Fall has to affect my kitty. Animals didn't get a choice in the matter on whether to turn from God or not. Why should it be that something we did affected them like this? It's genetic, it's not like something just ended up on the wrong target.
I love my kitty. That is, I'm very fond of him. I wish there was more I could do for him.
Maybe it's supposed to be a lesson for us in caring. Animals definitely have a sense of pain, but it's difficult to ascertain if they have a sense of 'why', as in, "Why me?" And there are a lot of days when I prefer the company of animals to people, so maybe it was just a way to make sure that we'd always have someone or something nearby to care about besides ourselves. Maybe just redirecting us to be more loving and giving? I don't know.
But I do wish I could make my kitty better.
