So good for turkey. Religion has NO PLACE in government, because it infringes upon those of us who don't believe in it.

Who has seen the wind?
by Christina Georgina Rossetti
Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you:
But when the leaves hang trembling
The wind is passing thro'
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when the trees bow down their heads
The wind is passing by.
The poem obviously isn’t original, but who needs to write something when there is a perfectly good piece already composed? And today is just such a day about which Rossetti was writing – gorgeous blue sky, white clouds, and wind. Lots of wind. Lots and lots of wind.
I love days like today. I remember Mama hanging just-washed white sheets on the line to dry on days such as this. They’d flap around in all crazy directions snapping playfully until sometimes the stick propping up the clothes line would succumb to the wind and down would tumble the entire assemblage.
Days like this are kite-flying days. Though I admit I have never been able to put one up in the air – much less keep it there; I love watching those more talented than I in this endeavor making their colorful paper craft dip and soar.
Yes, windy days like today make me feel like a child again. And I’ve acted like a child today – no work. Wheeeeeee! What fun!
Why is it that when I think of the most upsetting thing I can think of, all I can think abotu is icecream.
You know when you have an ice cream cone and you are sooo looking forward to it. It's creamy goodness... The taste, the texture, the cooling of that beautiful stuff...
And then, you take two steps after buying it, you go to take a loving lick of your well earned ice cream cone.
And the ice cream falls off and splatters on the pavement.
The dissapointment! The shame! The frustration! The anger!
The sadness...
Why? Why! Life is so cruel! It has cheated me!
And then I think of flying a kite.
The exhiliration of the wind tugging on the string.
The wild whipping of the kite.
Such a delicate thing, so fragile, and yet it pulls you along. Pulls you into running with the breeze, your face turned up to the sky in excitement and wonder.
And then suddenly, the string breaks, or a flurry blows your kite out of your hands.
And it lands in a tree.
And not just any tree. The tallest oak tree in the park.
The dissapointment! The shame! The frustration! The anger!
The sadness...
Why? Why! Life is so cruel! It has cheated me again!
And snowmen! Oh those frosty, smily, happy chappies.
You spend hours, lovingly sculpting this symbol of wintery fun. Your hands become numb through your gloves, but you don't care.
You are creating!
The sheer act of making this object is such joy to you that you run off to dig up sticks and a carrot. You search frantically for rocks. You even take off your scarf and gloves.
And then three round lumps of snow become a humanoid, frozen in perpetual stasis of a child's pure joy.
Stones for eyes and a smile, buttons.
Sticks for arms.
A wonky top hat you found in the garage.
Your gloves on his sticky, spindly arms. Your scarf around his neck (even though he doesn't have one)
And then...
The sun comes out.
The warmth you think "Oh! What joy! Let's go fly a kite and eat ice cream!!"
You run out in happy joy that accompanies a spur of the moment decision like that.
You run and expecting the world at your feet!
You run out. And you see your snowman. You're beautiful snowman...
His stoney eyes are running down his cheeks. His carrot nose has slumped like a limp bean sprout.
His mouth now resembles the insides of something your father bought in from the river last time he went fishing.
Good feeling gone.
The dissapointment! The shame! The frustration! The anger!
The sadness...
Why? Why! Life is so cruel! It has cheated me again!
And these my freinds? These are the epitomy of sadness.
The most upsetting things, that can ever happen to you.
Okay This is just too funny - I have to share - this is an example of how different things can look from someone else's perspective.
I mean, really; since when did you think of kite flying as a dangerous - or even deadly activity?
Well, okay, there's that Ben Franklin with his key moment but...
Yahoo News Alert! The Canadian Press Reports;
Pakistan Supreme Court extends ban on flying and making kites...
LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) - Pakistan's Supreme Court has extended a ban on making, selling and flying kites that it imposed two months ago after ruling the pastime had become increasingly deadly, an official said Saturday.
While the court was hearing the case, which it decided Friday, police swung batons and lobbed tear gas shells outside the building to disperse about 500 kite-makers and kite-flying enthusiasts who were trying to attend the proceedings.
The court ruled to extend the ban until it meets next Jan. 26, said Aftab Iqbal, advocate general for eastern Punjab province.
Lahore, the province capital, is the site of an annual kite-flying festival in which tens of thousands of people fly kites from rooftops and sports fields.
Hardline Muslims oppose the festival, called Basant, as a waste of money and consider it a Hindu festival. It is also celebrated with loud music and yellow dresses.
The festival sometimes turns deadly when people fall from roofs or are wounded by metal-lined strings. The strings are popular for use in kite battles where people try to cut each others' lines.
The Supreme Court banned kite-flying Oct. 25 in view of the increasing deaths, Iqbal said.
Some 19 people died and more than 200 were injured in February during Basant, which means "yellow" in Hindi and heralds spring.
Iqbal said the government is planning to pass a law for a partial or complete ban on kite-flying or to restrict kites to fields or open spaces.
"A draft law would be ready for examination by the Supreme Court when it meets next time," he said.
Violations of the Supreme Court ban can be punished by up to six months in jail.
A lawyer representing 90 kite manufacturers said the ban would leave some 100,000 people jobless and denied the festival is linked to Hinduism.
"The festivity has nothing to do with religion," Malik Abdul Qayyum said.
Have been working on my site and been away from here a bit, check it out;
Our Enchanted Garden; or cut and paste the link; http://ca.geocities.com/imcheryl@rogers.com
I added a section on bird feeding that will flesh out more with time, the section itself is called Wildlife - Our Frequent Visitors and will eventually include info about other critters that visit the garden! You can view that specific page here; Our Enchanted Garden - Wildlife; or cut and paste the link; http://ca.geocities.com/imcheryl@rogers.com/wildlife.html
Also added a holiday section featuring a poem and photograph. (I've been out taking some neat winter shots and will be adding those eventually as well.) You can see that at; Our Enchanted Garden - The Holidays; or cut and paste the link; http://ca.geocities.com/imcheryl@rogers.com/holiday.html
Haven't posted any animations yet - but I'm working on a few for Christmas!
i want to go hang out in the park, fly a kite, have a vegan cook out, take pictures of my friends, drink beers, and ride my scooter.
