A sermon from The UnChristian
Though I was Christian for most of my life ,I don't claim to be so now. After years of studying the bible and the Torah I threw them out except..the words in red.
Though I don't believe in the God of the Torah, bible or Koran I do believe that Jesus was a profound man who spoke words of truth. And that if the Christians would only really live by them the world would be completely changed.
From the time of his birth till his death Jesus spoke only of love, peace, kindness, charity and man serving man and not himself. He said if a man had, he was to give to others. He said life was not about an abundance of possessions but storing up treasures in heaven.
Remember the young man who came to Jesus and asked what he must do that he might inherit eternal life? Jesus first told him to keep the commandments. The young man replied he had done these things from his youth. Then Jesus told him to sell all he had and give it to the poor and to take up his cross and follow him. And the young man went away sad because his things meant more to him than following Jesus and instead of parting with them...he parted from Jesus. ( Mark 10:17 - 10:25)
Matthew 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Christmas is coming soon. All my Christian friends have told me of their Christmas plans, parties and travels. They have told me of gifts they're giving and gifts they wish for but not one has said to me " I look forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus and I hope I will find a way of spending that day in a manner that is pleasing to him".
You see, for most Jesus is still hanging on that cross.. or laying in his tomb dead and they act as if his word died with him. And they visit his grave now and then and lay down a few flowers and leave. And then feel as if they have done their duty.
For the few Jesus is risen and alive and well and living in them. And the "word" he spoke is alive and living in them also and they have cast off their "grave clothes' and they are following him where ever he is going.
The gate is narrow and they must enter single file, following directly behind him, not off to one side or the other but placing their feet directly in his footsteps...this my friend is a true follower of Jesus!
As for me,I can't say whether or not Jesus arose from the dead. Like Thomas I would have to touch him physically to know that. I cannot say I believe he was God or the son of God. But, I do believe Jesus spoke the truth when he said we must take care and love one another. We must share what we have and not neglect the poor. And I do believe that a life defined by the "possessions you gather" instead of the love you share is no life at all.
John 14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

"Community" Library Redux
This actually happened a couple days ago (Friday 8/21 to be precise) and I made a note to blog it as soon as I had the chance. Which is now.
I was working at the public library and a guy comes in and asks for a specific book. A Bible dictionary. I know that we have one, but it is in our reference collection (meaning it cannot be checked out). I explain that to him and then show him the book. It is EXACTLY the book he is looking for. I repeat that he can't check it out but we have a copier if needed. Suddenly, he hears me and gets all upset that he can't check the book out. I explained again and he tells me that the other librarian told me to come here because he could check it out.
Once I got the full story I think it went like something like this: he was at the downtown branch looking for this book. They have it, but in reference. Trying to be helpful, she checked the suburban catalog (we are in the midst of a merger and the catalogs are still separate) and saw that we have a copy. Being new to our catalog she (or he, I don't actually know) missed the fact that this book is marked as reference and sent him to our library. The customer took the bus from downtown to our branch (quite a distance by bus) only to be disappointed. I checked our catalog and found out that of the 20-odd copies we own of this book ONE of them is circulating and it is at the Penn Lake branch. I called them to make sure that this wasn't an error in the catalog (it seemed so odd that only one copy would circulate and that it would live at PL...why not a bigger branch?). They had the book and assured me it would circulate. I had them hold it for the customer.
Then, he needed to know how to get there by bus. This is NOT my area of expertise. I haven't ever been on a city bus (as far as I know) and I have never even looked at a bus schedule. So, between his knowledge of bus schedules and my knowledge of where the library was located, we were going to get him there.
While all of this is going on, my coworker, Rich, was helping some guy track down a book. I didn't hear any of their conversation, but as luck would have it, his book was checked in at...you guessed it, Penn Lake! While my guy and I were headed for the door, still discussing bus schedules and PL library, Rich's customer overheard us and said "excuse me". We turned to him and he said, "are you headed to PL?" My guy said that he was and then Rich's guy said, "so am I, I'll give you a ride if you want." My guy said that he would appreciate it and accepted the ride.
Can you believe that?
I was shocked. I think I still am. In this day and age, to offer a ride to a stranger is completely unheard of. Truly, I think this might be the most quintessential definition of a community library. It is possible that nowhere else on earth would you see this kind of situation come to fruition. Two complete strangers working together to make the best of their library experience. Is that an amazing story or what?
Had it not been so busy (and so late in the day) I'd have blogged about it then and there.
If you didn't find that to be so extraordinary, then I will add this and you can take it as you will. The man that offered the ride was a middle-aged white man. The man who accepted was a young black man.
Maybe, just maybe, the world isn't as bad as they say it is.

Appreciation
I just want to take the time to thank each of my friends who came to my defense when saikotikgunman
thought it was his civic duty to tell everyone that I have two blogs.
I opened the second one to meet new friends, as well as to blog things that were on my mind, that didn't especially deal with Christian topics. If you think that is wrong, well, so be it. But I have had people ridicule when I have written about things they didn't agree with, and thought that it would be good just to do it elsewhere.
I am not trying to justify myself and I am not going to close that blog at present. If you want to go and read what I have written there, you are most welcome. If you don't like what you see, then you don't have to add irishlassie to your friends' list.
I love and appreciate all of my friends, and appreciate your support, prayers and friendship more than you will ever know.
wolfman you have been there for me all the way, along with everyone else and I appreciate you ...geekity14 especially grateful to you as well.

Just want to say to all of my friends, that I appreciate all of the support you gave me in the face of saikotikgunman 's post and all of the attention it brought to play.
In life, there is nothing like having good friends, and it is when opposition and trouble comes that you realize how many friends you actually do have.
If any of you need me for anything, you just let me know. I never meant to hurt anyone, but am sorry if I did.

How marvellous! =D
My day was actually a lot better, today. A basic runthrough (you guys are gonna end up getting sick of me and this routine eventually. :P)
Math
We ended up getting relocated to a new room. Randy sits with me as per usual, but this other boy, Chris (who everybody hates the crap out of) sits with us as well. I don't know why he wanted with us. I've never really talked to him all that often, despite that I'm nice to him and Randy is completley annoyed by his presence. I sit in-between those two boys - keeping them both occupied. We were doing more seatwork today, and Randy was fiddling around with my calculator and talking about wars, and also telling me about how much he wanted to join the Navy. He also threw several insults to Chris who is sitting a seat down from me. Although I smiled slightly (don't recall why), I told him to be nice, and if he didn't have anything nice to say, then I told him to not say it at all.
It's a little sickening. Chris has a disability (but it's not even visible, like I am), and he's really loud and feeds back insults when he's insulted. All he's ever heard (other than me) by his classmates is insults and threats to punch his face in and stuff. As firsrt period progressed, and watching him play his PSP every now and then - I asked him if he needed help. I recall once that he said that a different class apparently thinks he's a spy, or a genius - obviously knowing this was untrue (because everybody hates him, and he has no friends) I just smiled at him and didn't really say anything in response but "Oh."
Randy and the rest of the class continued on with their insults aimed directly at Chris, and the poor boy would wear a smile on his face as he would spit something weak back. He told me that I was the only person that was ever nice to him, other than his parents I'm sure. Though that didn't surprise me. I gave him some answers, and he thanked me. I also wrote a few on his page, saying "I hope you don't mind that my writing is messy... But it's not my fault, it's apart of my disability." He said I wasn't disabled, and I reassured him I was. He kept his head down to his work as he said, "Well, you can't even tell."
In response to Randy's statement about money, Chris said that if he had a million dollars, he'd give half to me. I know he doesn't, and I wouldn't accept it if he did - but it goes to show, it pays to show a little kindness to somebody you barely even know.
Maybe all somebody needs is a friend. I guess it'll be my part to take that role. I'm looking forward to seeing those two tomorrow, even though everybody else labels them as completley obnoxious and annoying.

Okay, this class was just awesome. XD We were put in groups, and we were told to come up with ideas about the future in twenty years. Boy was that hilarious. Somebody said that we would end up riding a Sorse, which apparently is a cross between a squirrel and a horse, and that sports opponents would be aliens. I hope the greatness of this class for me doesn't wear off.
I've discovered that I'm not the only geek in the class, either. There's this boy named Jeff, who seems to really enjoy Science (well, at least that's what I think - with his talk about cloning humans in the future and stuff.) He LOOKS friendly... For some odd reason, I think I would enjoy talking with him...
---
At lunch, Liam decided to sit with me - and he was wearing HOT PINK SUSPENDERS! XD Lunch was a riot, my buddies and I were laughing our heads off at things that were just plain weird... I haven't laughed that hard in a while, so that was a plus. I love my pals, always a light to my life. ^^

History
We're learning about the culture and how people lived in the early 1900's, which is actually gaining my interest. We have quizzes every Friday in this class, which is a downside... But meh, I suppose it'll do some good somewhere along the line.
