You know, I may bitch about my family alot but they really can be pretty cool.
A couple weeks ago afer my midterm I decided to give my aunt in Albany, NY a call. Aunt Mary doesn't have kids of her own so growing up she treated us neices and nephews (and the kid she knew from her social work) as if we were her own. We used to vacation with her husband, Bob, and her every couple years or so when growing up. She's been a big part of my life and I try to call her every once in while.
She congradulated me on my good grade and eventually we got to chatting about books. I told her about how I have totally been loving the books of Nick Hornby lately. I recomended a few of his titles to her.
She told me that she had just bought a copy of Sidney Poitier's autobiography after a friend of hers recomended it. I commented about it sounding good because in addition to being a bookworm I am also a bit a film buff. She was like "oh well then this should be right up your alley."
Mary was super cool and mailed me the book before she even read it. She included a nice little note.
In the note she again told me she would try to read something by Hornby, him being one of my favorites and all. She also cangradulated me on the good marks again. But the thing that really touched me was that she included a second congrats, this time for not giving up when life has dealt me a tough hand sometimes.
That is just cool. I mean, it's always good to know that you have someone in your corner for you.
Aunt Mary also slipped in a twenty dollar bill for me. She didn't really have to, and the she knows that, which kind of makes it even cooler.
I'm sender a thank you card for being such and awesome aunt. Besides if I don't I'll hear about it.
By the way, so far the book is good. I have a few thing in it that have begun to bug me but I am enjoying reading it. I put Call of the Wild on hold so that I can mail the book back a soon as possible.
Thanks,
Mark
