Blog hosts, usernames and special dates!
So, my first blog entry. One of what will hopefully be many! I'm going to be using this blog to share my random ramblings, musings, rants and so forth. I may also post my lyrics or short stories here too.

I've been looking for a good blog host for about a week now. I had initially signed up for Livejournal, but I realized that it had far more settings than I needed. So, I abandoned my Livejournal account and set off in search of a more simple blog. I decided to try Blogger, but I didn't like any of the templates, and when I tried to modify it, it continually played up. So I found My.Opera. Which looked great. Until I tried to put my own header in. The CSS just wouldn't work for me - I swear, that language is evil. It's conspiring against me. It's going to strike when I least expect it. Anyway, after signing up for goodness knows how many other blog hosts, each one of which failed to meet my standards (which, to be perfectly fair, weren't exactly sky-high), I finally found Mindsay. I scouted around the site a bit and it seems to meet every single one of my needs and wants! So, that's how I got here...I told you this was going to be random :).

My username, My Own Eternity, comes from the song "Before The Chance To Leave" by Motion In Colour. The four lines in my header are the lyrics from that song that always seem to grab me. My blog name, Out Of The Blue, wasn't really inspired by anything in particular, it just seemed to fit with both the design of the header and the sheer randomosity of this blog.

I don't have much to say now...just a few dates I don't want to forget:
31st January - Elliot Minor at Wrexham. Gutted we missed the signing, but the gig was awesome! Bought myself a signed poster and hoodie (the hoodie wasn't signed though)!
6th April - Showtime! at Wolverhampton. First time seeing Daniel Boys live; he was amazing, of course! And so was Kerry Ellis, but I wouldn't have expected any less from her! I found out about some really good West End performers, namely Ramin Kairimloo, Chris Key and Rebecca Lock. The students weren't good at all - I know they're only young, but if they want to go into the West End, they're going to have to be a million times better than they were. And the sound guy should have been shot. It's one thing to get the kids' mics wrong, but the pros as well? Off with his head!
12th April - Elliot Minor's album arrived in the post, and it was one of the first 500 to be shipped, which means it's signed! So now I have their autographs twice :), but I haven't met them once :(.

'Til next time, then,
Take care!

John Kerry and the now infamous remark

I don't need to repeat it... you know what he said.  I think that it might have been a botched joke on Bush... which might have come off a bit funny if he'd had done it right.  But he said what he said, and yes, the "apology" was a bit weak... But for all the Republicans running with this "story" as it were... Is John Kerry running for any office this term?  I was under the impression that he wasn't.  Is this really a political issue that Republicans want to be running on, "Vote for me in Ohio because Sen. John Kerry of Mass. is a jerk volunteer-military-hating-buffoon-who-can't-tell-a-joke?"  Sure, yeah, express a little outrage guys... that's fine.  But come on folks!  I thought Hannity was always saying that Republicans are the ones running on the issues.  Is John Kerry's buffoonery really one of those issues?  If it is... well dang... Besides, I thought we'd all figured out by now that John Kerry isn't quite so wonderful in the last presidential election.

Mud-slinging is a reason that I hate American politics... I hate mud-slinging even more whenever it doesn't even pertain to the freaking issues.  Yeah, what he said was dumb, rude, inconsiderate, and uncouth... But I'm certainly not represented by Kerry here in Louisiana... and crap, he's not even running this term!!!

I just hate politics... it's like they never paid attention in English 1002 when taught the argumentative fallacy of Ad Hominim... I wish our government was perfect... and honest... and righteous... and worked for the good of the people... to serve the people and not instead to establish an aristocracy and further the greed of big corporations and destroy the shaky moral fiber this nation has left.

I thumb my nose at thee Government!  For I am the fool that gives thee power!

Jokes, Jokes, Jokes!

I wish I had something better to write about this week; I've been waiting for a more substantial development to happen as we draw closer and closer to the election this coming week. Unfortunately, the hot topic in politics this week is the joke told by Senator Kerry a few days ago.

If you've been living under a rock or don't care for news shows, Kerry said the following:

"Education... If you make the most of it and you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

If taken in context, the joke was a jibe aimed at President Bush, who clearly didn't do his homework about the war in Iraq and got us embroiled in a gigantic fiasco that continues to cost American lives. Essentially, Kerry was calling Bush stupid, which is hardly anything new... People have been calling Bush stupid since the first "Bushisms" arose during the 2000 election.

Bush and his fellow Republicans have jumped on the remark and twisted it so it sounds like Kerry was insulting the military, saying that if you don't do well in school you're going to end up in the Army and fighting in Iraq. Bush and White House Press Secretary Tony Snow have both called for Kerry to apologize for his comments and declared that everyone, regardless of their party affiliation, should show support for our troops.

The Democrats have responded by saying Bush and his friends are apparently too stupid to know they're being called stupid.

But really, comrades, can you really fake shock at the spin? Kerry, while more eloquent than Bush (and that isn't saying much), clearly botched what he meant to say, and this isn't the first time this has happened. "I voted for the war -- right before I voted against it!" Look, politics -- whether you like it or not -- is just this way. If you say the wrong thing, in context or out of it, your opponents are going to use it against you. Kerry clearly should have known better to phrase his "joke" better than the way he did.

Back in the Clinton era, a member of Clinton's cabinet said something along the lines of "The best and the brightest did not go to Vietnam." She meant that the "best and the brightest" who designed Lyndon Johnson's Vietnam policy did not actually have to fight in the war and realize the horrors their policy was shaping there. Of course, Republicans twisted it so it sounded like she was saying only stupid people were drafted and sent to fight in Vietnam. This whole word-twisting is nothing new, and I'm sure if I was willing to invest more time into this, I could find examples dating back all the way to Adams versus Jefferson.

If there is any irony in this, it's that Kerry's "spun" comment could also be taken as a serious observation. While there are plenty of intelligent people in the military, I'm sure, I think we all know that the bulk of the people who volunteer for the military are people who aren't provided a lot of options in life. Their families are too poor to afford a higher education and cannot get the scholarships or financial aid they need. Or they had troubles growing up, and the only organization that can give them the things they need -- a salary, shelter, discipline, hope for a better future -- is the military. These, by and large, are people from my neck of the woods.... The "white trash" looked down upon by the people on the West and East Coasts, the urban kids who never got a fair shake from anyone, the poor and the needy and the desperate. In other words, you aren't going to see the Bush daughters stationed in Baghdad anytime soon.

The rich start the wars, but they don't fight in them. And when they can't get enough to fight, they lower the standards so pretty much anyone can get in... which is why you hear these cases of massacre and rape, because men who would otherwise not pass the psychological tests to get into the Army are suddenly fair game. Plenty of military men have commented on how the standards for training have fallen as of late and what that means for the integrity of our fighting forces.

But you're not going to see any of these serious issues discussed. Nothing about the state of the military or the state of the union. As we get closer and closer to election day, the media is just going to continue to focus in on the soundbites, the diatribes, the gaffes and blunders that may turn the minds of the undecideds who will decide this election. And frankly, that's no laughing matter.

The Cut-N-Run Odyssey

Kerry and Pelosi will end up shooting their Party in the foot if they keep up the Cut-N-Run proposal. America is not unhappy with having troops in Iraq, they are unhappy of the Bush Administration of the prosecution of the war against insurgency in Iraq.

If with the huge dent in al Qaeda in Iraq with Zarqawi dead, the Democrats could not bring themselves to praise the situation. To exploit the Republicans in 2006 and 2008 the Democrats must keep hammering their view that the war in Iraq is a mistake. Any acknowledgement that good things are occurring in Iraq would be a political disaster for Democrats. Negative press for Iraq is the only tool Democrats can get voters to take notice because Democrats have lost ideas on solutions that benefit the majority of Americans.

The Democratic Party agenda seeks to keep Black-Americans impoverished, recruit illegal aliens from Mexico to vote (remember Francine Busby) and dilute morality by warring with Christianity about morality as related to secular humanistic relativism (e.g. homosexuality, prayer in public institutions and God on public forums).

Who is the primary ally of the Democratic Party? It is none other the Left leaning Main Stream Media. Keep watch America, the election delusions will begin to increase as November draws near.

Hello!

Hey There!

Colleen here. I'm just waiting for supper to be ready. We are having spaghetti. Mom and Dad have a full house right now. Tom is here, so is Kristi his gf, Mike, Sam and I are here also. I see Mom making garlic bread right now. I love garlic bread. My main favourite food is Mexican but I also dig Italian food. Phantom is fine, she's a good kitte! I call cats by that word. That word I made up a while back while I was quite young at the time. I miss my sister. Kerry that is. She lives in Winnipeg with my brother in law/her husband Peter. Peter is working at Winnipeg University and Kerry has a job up there too having with architecture. Kerry is an architect. Kerry and Peter also love Trailer Park Boys and just like Sam, they both like Bubbles. I asked Kristi if she liked Trailer Park Boys and she said she never watched it and possibly doesn't like it to my surprize. Dad is watching baskeball on the tv. Sam is telling me that she's tired...me too apparently. Julian and I were drinking "rum and Coke" earlier and Sam was drinking her "swish". Well..she still is. I might have a "rum and Coke" later. Anyway I guess that's it so bye for now.

Take Care!
