Jungle @ MindSay
meaning: cross the cultures cross the city --> bathed in radiant lights of day and street light nights
1. don real fur. skate down to the bros and the girls drinking James Ready in the hot hot hot afternoon light... some were down with the veggie burgers --> this is sorta East Village North in a way so it's all good (understood?)
2. when Nixon and I finally made it up north there to the midtown Italian - Portuguese festival, the burning ball in the sky had shifted to a sentimental circle that was bent on adding colour to the evening of Brazilian dancers, uniformed stage bands and the six blocks jammed with immigrant families, young couples and blue collar workers. the empty streetcar tracks disappeared with the curve of the hillside into the distant haze of the midtown landscape -- it was a light but thick green.
3. saw an old roommate i hadn`t talked to in years. that went pretty well. looked pretty bulky. i thought he would be a bitch to me. but he was pretty cool. but he did talk a bit in riddles, if you know what i mean. like, the way people talk to you when they have some negative opinion about you (i.e. their ego is telling them they`re better than you) but they don`t really want to tell you.
4. heard a new version of this laid back band`s wikkidist song. we had to pass through one dark bar, and head through a curtain to the back room to take in the set. the guitar screams california. the lyrics inspired. apparently the drummer holds shit together. they could be for hippies or hipsters -- and yet they wouldn`t belong to either category. somehow the tunes are crisp and marketable. you just know they don`t think they`re better than anyone -- ya know... apparently they`ve just started recording my favourite track -- and, this stoked me out, the drumbeat they just laid down is pretty damn intense, the lead singer says...
5. gathered gossip on the inner-workings of the jungle crews of the city. one of the star players in the scene is looking for a new home. *but i may have already witnessed the next step --- I talked to a powerful party promoter that`s trying to bring FG on board... that was random but nice to hear
6. met up with my womens studies girl and just chilled on her porch at like 3 a.m. or whatever. i guess she likes dubstep now. and MIA. obviously. I guess the new vid with Rye Rye is just SMOKING HOT. (i.e. the girls are smoking hot -- chillin on a couch or something). this coming from a women`s studies major.
7. made some beats. yeah.
8. and etc.
Southeast Asia?
Pink oleander.
On the corner of Tree and Vine.
Sometimes, you have to slow down and take your time. Here now is a carefully crafted Jungle mix for your listening pleasure. I put it together over a long period of time, but I think the result was well worth the effort.
Remember, listen responsibly!

- Snow – Wildchild & Damage
Almost all of these tracks (exceptions are track 2 and 17) come directly from my own record bag. They were all encoded using Sound Forge to MP3 format at 192kbps. Despite the slight drop in quality I think they sound pretty darned good.
The two tracks NOT from my vinyl collection were ripped from CDs. I actually used to own a white label of the Freestylers remix of "Because I Got It Like That" but it was stolen (or perhaps lost) at a gig I did once. Kosheens "Suicide" has long been a favorite track of mine but I was never able to find a good vinyl copy of it, so I had to settle for a CD... I am still searching for a good vinyl copy tho.
Puerto Rico by Ed Rush and Optical is off of the "Original Dr. Shade" LP and is essentially a remix Frankie Cutlass' "Puerto Rico - Black People", a pretty rad break track. I balk at calling it an all out remix as it only really used the line "Puerto Rico" and a sort of rezzed out yell from the original.
The Upbeats remix of "Subculture" is one of my favorite tracks period. I just love the intensity so I let the thing play alomst in its entirity. For anyone who hasn't heard of Styles of Beyond I suggest this track in its original form and "Style Wars". This exact remix can be found on the "Human Resource" LP, presented by Deiselboy.
"Back @ Mine" by Decoder is a pretty old track and is off of one of the first LPs I ever bought. The high pitched "ah ah ah ah ah" noise in the background is a sped up version of a classic house noise... unfortunatly I really don't know it's origin at this time.
"Panic Attack" is an interesting track in that it gives a "featuring" credit to Nu Balance, who's voice is indeed featured on the track in a sped up, stuttered and almost completly unrecognizable way. For some reason I keep incorperating this track into a majority of my live mixes. It tends to get a crowd pumped up.
"Snow" may or may not be by the same Wildchild of "Renegade Master" fame. There really isn't a whole lot of information available on the subject, but in my opinion I think it is the same Wildchild. The basics of the two songs are too similar for my ears for it to be different artists.
So there ya go. Enjoy the tunes and remember, if you have any ideas for a mix drop a comment and I'll see what I can do.

Hey everybody, it's me, DJ Maru AKA KillerJunglist.
In this, my super brand new blog I will be posting all my music crap including mixes, mash-ups, original tracks and possibly more. I started posting my mixes on my old blog (www.mindsay.marukun.com) but that blog isn't about music, so I am starting this one in order to keep everything nice and neat.
In the next week or so I will start putting up the most recent mixes that I have made as well as some of my better practice sessions. I will also put up some tracks that I made in the past that I am proud of and some mash-ups that I made as well. I would also like to post links to other artists' tracks that I like, but I am currently making sure it is okay with them so that might take a little longer.
As this is my first blog entry, allow me to introduce myself.
I go by two DJ names, DJ Maru and KillerJunglist. My nickname in real life is Maru, but it turns out there are a bunch of DJs with that name already. KillerJunglist was coined by a friend of mine a while ago when I was spinning a Jungle set. And speaking of Jungle, My preferred styles of dance music are (in order):
1. Jungle/Drum and Bass
2. Battle/Old School/New Skool breaks
3. House (mostly UK Hard, but also Funky and Disco)
4. Old School Hip Hop
5. Unclassifiable (I like taking old rock and roll and such and mixing it... sort of like medleys).
I use software and turntables to mix. I am currently living in Japan (until November of this year) and far away from my turntables, so I have been making all my mixes on MixMeister; a simple but very useful (and inexpensive) piece of mixing software. My turntables are Numark TTXs and my mixer is a Denon DNX 100. I plan on getting a pair of CD mixers upon my return to America so I can include more songs into my live mixes.
My philosophy on DJing is simple: as long as it sounds good and/or moves the crowd you're doing it right. I don't care if you use two tape decks with no mixer, if you can keep the flow going then you are doing your job. I feel that creativity in DJing is what it's all about.
As an added bonus, I am willing to take mix requests. Here is how it works:
Leave a comment with your idea for a mix. You can give a specific playlist, some artists you like or just a genre with some song titles and, if I am inspired enough by it, I will take your requests and make a full length (30, 45 or 60 minute) mix out of them. I will post the mix on this blog and give inspirational credit (song credit too, if you happen to be an artist) to you. Mix requests will be considered by song availability (in the case of artists wanting their own music mixed by me please tell me where I can download a copy), time consideration and mixability (if you want a mix that goes from Elvis at 102 bpm to KMFDM at 165, I doubt it's gonna happen). I think it could be fun tho, so let's hear what you want to hear!
So that's my story. I will have my first mix posted within a few days, so stay tuned and start thinking of those requests!
-KillerJunglist
Post Script - I am not posting a mix today because I plan on writing some trivia about the tracks I used in each mix first. I am also planning on making a podcast soon that works on the same idea; talking about the artists and songs used and then playing the mix in full.
