A Canadian waitress lost her job when she went into work after shaving her head for a charity called Cops for Cancer, a local fundraiser for cancer research.  The woman's friend was going through cancer, and she also lost her father to the disease--it was an issue close to her heart, and shaving her head for the charity was a no-brainer.

But then she went to work, and her boss told her to go home and not to come back.  How horrible is that?

Truly, I have been so busy lately, my regular appearances here at my blog have been suffering. Yet, twice today - so far. It really does come and go.

 

At any rate, I was just perusing a few job listings and I came across what may be the worst posting ever. Talk about ego-centricity!.

Description: Lakes International Language Academy is a K-6 public charter school located in Forest Lake, MN. We opened in 2004 with 177 students, and in 2007, entered our 4th year with 450 students, as well as a brand new wing including a large gymnasium and stage. Our staff works hard, and has a lot of fun in the process. We will undertake our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme authorization visit next year--a very exciting point in a multi-year process. The Media Center is the heart of an IB, inquiry-based school. We recently received a grant to renovate an under-utilized portion of our building into a large, architect designed, light-filled media center. It will be the true heart of the school, figuratively and by location in the building. In addition, it promises to be a beautiful setting in which to work.

That's the whole thing. You'll notice there is no information about the job itself. Nothing about the qualifications for the job. Nothing about how to apply. Zip regarding where to go for more information. Even the contact: no phone number, no email, just her name. It is so incredibly frustrating. All this really is, is a glorified brag-a-thon written by someone who must have invented this school, they are so damn proud of it.

 

This isn't something I was going to apply for anyway, but after reading it--definitely not. Why would I want to work for someone so obviously high on themselves that they don't give a crap about my position. Ah well, maybe a course in job posting writing wouldn't go amiss.

So, my interview went well, I'm pretty much hired. I just have to let her know when I can officially start(after finals). It will last through September, but classes start in Aug. I'm not sure how that's going to go.... And it is an awful long way to get there. It is about 45 min, but I'm going to hit traffic to get there, so it'll take longer. I know it's $8 an hour, and that sounds really great, but I'm only going to have like 4 hours a day, and with the gas to get there and back home, plus the money they take out, I don't know if it really is as good as originally thought. I'm going to look for some other place thats closer, but I don't want to give the impression that I will work for the ice company, if I'm not going to, and I don't want to let them know that I'm looking just to find out that nowhere else will hire me, and that because I didn't stick with the ice company, they found someone else to take my place. 

Here's some sickening news--New York Yankees third-baseman Alex Rodriguez tops the major league baseball salary list at $28 million, according to a study of contract terms by The Associated Press, making more than everyone on the Florida Marlins combined. The 33 players on the Marlins' opening-day roster and disabled list total $21.8 million.

How has society gotten to the point where a baseball player can be paid such an insane amount of money???  It's sick.

off your ass and do what it takes!

Drought, a growing population and booming industry

led to critical water shortages in many areas around the country. .

You just got to do what your country needs you to do

There is plenty of work you just have to get off you ass and find it .

 Low water levels worsen the pollution diverted into lakes

and rivers from manufacturing and sewage are creating a

tremendous job growth, with more opening expected to be

available this year ....so quit talking about  depression/recession...

life is good....

Trust your government we have you, er, everything under control

The workers, don't worry, the government will truck specially treated
  water to millions of people, and as we speak the new sedatives are
now being added  to municipal water supplies, along with the fluoride,
 it's for your own good you  know, to lessen any
 pain that may be felt during these difficult times.
